Sophia Lucia (San Diego Dance Centre) - Treasure The Dance Awards Best Mini Dancer Competition New York 2013 Age 10, Contemporary Solo (1st Runner-up) Choreography by Jessie Hartley
wow. I think this is the first time I've seen her do something so incredibly beautiful. It's nice to know she's more than 100 turns in a row or jump after jump. This is so amazing. I look at her in a completely different way now.
I love this piece. By far the best one I've seen of her. not overwhelmed by turns, and musically synced by her movements and my favorite... USE OF THE STAGE!! This is great c:
She competed this for Best Mini Dancer at the Dance Awards and they do not announce that till the end of the week. It is scored from this solo, auditions, and how she does just in class at the convention.
I really liked it alot. We all know that she can do the kickspins & turn combinations, but I like to see stuff like this where it's just simple & beautiful & doesn't have all the typical stuff we usually see
This girl can't win. If she performs a routine showcasing skill, commenters think all she does are "spins" (honestly, if you can't call them pirouettes or turns you shouldn't be allowed to judge) or tricks. If She does a REAL contemporary piece that showcases artistry over flash you say its "too easy" -which looks that way because she is damn effortless in her movements.
Who else was reminded of Hayden Hopkins throughout this routine! She has gotten so much more technical and rhythmic in the past few months! Her routines aren't just turn anymore. She really matured as a dancer..great job Sophia!
Sophia is amazing. She is dancing like someone who could audition for So You Think You Can Dance. If this is easy, I would like the person who thinks that to try it.
In this performance she shows superior tech, smoothness, fluidity along with a few vertical leg kicks and lifts which were a bit better than the other top two girls and minimal spins which were near perfect. The one other girl was very good also and close to her in the overall performance but I think Sophia was the best by a small margin. Boils down to the personal subjective opinion of each judge. Could be a tie?
Thanks so much for uploading! It was so good that she did a solo like this, The Dance Awards is def not a competition that wants a bunch of tricks, they want fabulous technique in an artistic piece. And she def did that!
no... I'm her age been dancing same amount of time as her, I'm not as good as her. and it took her whole life to figure out how to do 60 turns, if your saying somebody can do that easily... then why isn't there anyone else who has broken her record? exactly... last record was 36, and the same girl never tried to win it back and nobody else did.... so if the word "world" means billions and trillions of people and she's the only one who can do those turns. I think you should show respect. -claudia
my exact thought. I know they've danced together a few times, I think its a fair assumption to say they both admire each others work and are inspired by one another.
I'm personally and that's just my 2 cents like the fact that this year well at least a this comp she actually danced and didn't do just trick after trick and them repeat some m,ore tricks like she usually does! Competing dances like this will actually benefit her I think ..cuz dance isn't just all about doing trick after trick ..it's art and emotion and passion and etc... I know a lot of ppl who hire dancers do trike them to be to much technical and all about tricks
I like how everyone's saying she's capable of doing so much more. We all know that. But that gets boring, seeing her do 50 turns gets boring. Do you know how hard it is to take a simple routine (which I don't know why people are saying this was) and make it look beautiful and effortless?
Love how much she has grown as a dancer this year...the only thing I wasn't crazy about was the repetitive music. It doesn't build like it could have. But nevertheless, sophie was beautiful as always.
Is this solo choreographed by Hayden Hopkins Abby any chance ?. I know that Sophia's mom got Hayden to choreo a solo for Sophia ....... Plus this isn't Sophia's normal / usual type or style of dancing she usually does and the costume and the choreo looks kind of what Hayden would choreograph
She competed as a mini ??. I thought she was in the junior age division isn't she like 10 y.o?? She's amazing but I feel kinda bad for the dancers who r younger and had to compete against her ......I think it's kinda unfair in a way cuz she's obviously amazing for her to be 10 soon to be 11 I think ( I might be wrong if she's 9 y.o) she's at the top of her age division with a skill that she possess comp against lil kids lol , but than again I'm not sure exactly what kind of rules there r
+Maddi Follows calm down. Tate beat Sophia fair and square. No one said she wasn't talented just not as talented as Tate here. Sophia just wasn't good enough to beat Tate.
+Camrie Colson No, the judges are more biased to a more technical way of dancing which is why Sophia came back the following year with a "Tate like" solo and won. We all know that sophia is on another level.
+Camrie Colson And you could clearly see that this wasn't Sophia's style at all (at the time) and that the choreography wasn't even to be compared to what Tate was given.
This music has no meaning at all, and no words- yet all her songs are like that. The choreography wasn't very good: she can do sooo much more. She is an amazing dancer who makes it look good but really this was easy and I got bored watching it. There is also no emotion. Maddie shows better emotion and her choreo is always better (duhh she is from ALDC!) but Sophia's technique is a lot better.
