I think it's great you shared the anxiety side and you're totally right that if you do it more, it'll get better. This was an incredible video, and what a cool idea to take yourself on a private art retreat😊Thank you for sharing this with us and for your vulnerability in speaking about social anxiety and the unease that comes with being alone. I immediately clenched up my entire body at the idea of going alone somewhere unfamiliar and being there for multiple days (AHHH!) because of all the same feelings. It does take courage to do these things for some of us and I’m proud of you for pushing yourself and growing. You should be very proud of you, too❤You are an inspiration, babe. And the experience looks like it provided you with lots of inspiration, you made tons of art! And the cute fairy wrens- they’re some of my faves, too. They started popping up around my area in recent years, I guess the North American ones originated from the Carolinas, as they’re also called Carolina wrens. Those little perky tails just get me squealing- so CUTE. P.S. remember to save all your receipts for this trip as you worked and it all counts as a business expense 🤗 P.P.S. I went on a self-initiated artist residency last year and I had many of the same feelings of anxiety about being by myself--especially at night. How lovely and charming! I am so happy that you have a mixture of stuff you did live and stuff you painted from reference (but how it was still very fresh in your mind). You use of colours just transport me there and I love the textures you get in your artwork. One of your lovely followers found my videos and commented on my little self done artist residency video and this one had been on my mind to watch. I'm creating a little zine of my adventures and it would be lovely if we could get something similar of these paintings (in the most none pressured way ofc!). 💜💜💜Hi, Sophie! Thank you for a lovely visit to Australia. Gumnut cabin! How cool is that? My favorite [snapshots] are the purple petunias and the napping lady. Both pictures gave me an “ahh” feeling. Be happy, Sophie. That’s the same thing I tell my daughter: be happy (and be safe). I’ve never seen a fairy wren. Our birds are migrating in and out now. I’m looking for the warm weather birds, the harbingers of the green season. I’m looking for American robins and red-winged blackbirds. I’ve seen a bluebird. Then we’ll see sandhill cranes and turkey vultures. We see American bald eagles year-round. Those eagles always take my breath away. Thank you for bringing nature into my night time. Falling asleep now. Zzzzzzz😔

Thank you for sharing the emotional journey as well as the physical one. I recommend the book Journal of a Solitude by May Sarton in terms of exploring solitude in more depth. Solitude is a precious commodity once we get past the anxiety. Sending lots of positive energy. ❤️

Ahh a solo trip like that is such a good idea, and looks so peaceful. The Australian countryside IS gorgeous! It's not a country I ever really thought about visiting, but every time you film something like this, it really makes me feel wistful. XD I'd love to see it one day now. My partner and I were watching this together, and we were both so relaxed, and then that drawing you did with the ducks on the water with the ripples... we were both like 'Oh! That's gorgeous!!" Haha, he was really impressed with your sketchbook! XD Made us both really want to have a little getaway trip like that. I always love the colours you choose to represent duller ones; like that amazing tree overlooking the lake. It was beautiful already, but I love that you used pink to paint it. Actually there was that other page where you used pink as a base, and it's stunning. There are so many pages in your sketchbook that just give me the shivers cos they turned out so well, and everything looked so delicious. Like watching you open a box of chocolates haha!

I relate to the being alone thing, and I think for me it’s about feeling guilty that I’m not focusing on other people and I’m afraid they’ll abandon me because of that :/ I’m doing things anyway just like you and I feel like I’m making progress! Let’s do things scared✨
That was a really great video, I liked it a lot. Honestly if it was me I wouldn't have recorded at all so you could have enjoyed the nature without the worry of recording, but whatever flouts your boat.
heheh, there were two whole days I didn't film anything which was really nice! But it was a 'work trip' too, so, films are gotta be filmed! I enjoy film making though - it's another creative outlet x
How good of you - and inspiring to me/us - to finally do this. And how human to feel as you described, especially when traveling and drawing on your own. It is a tough nut to crack. I hope that in the end you are proud to have done this and feel strong enough to keep pursuing outings like this.

Thank you!!! Yes, I bought a spray fixative for the neocolor 2 drawings/paintings and I also used small pieces of scrap paper in between the drawings to protect them. ❤❤❤
Don’t be too harsh on yourself. A cityish girl in the country alone. Is normal. New sounds. Absolute quiet, creaks of the trees, weird animal noises, no cars or trains or cyclists voices zooming past. It’s normal. Have u ever seen a country type in the big city for the first time. It’s like whiplash. It’s all new. You did amazingly. And the art wow. Just WOW. You got out about in nature and in society. You rested. Which I find is sooo normal on a retreat. At least one day is for recovery always. No pressure. Thank you for the video. I loved it
So glad you loved the video!!! I’ve actually never lived in the city, I live very far from the city in fact, in small towns. So, it’s not the lack of cars, nature sounds, water that’s new to me, that’s my normal in fact. It’s just anxiety and stuff 🙃 which is something I’ve always experienced. I love your art. I love your videos.theyare super relaxing so I look for them to be able to have going for happiness and inspiration. I went to your store before it there wasn't anything available there. I'm not sure now if you do but there is lots of screenshots I took it one of your journals that I am wishing I could get prints of. I have been around art my whole life. My mom was an artist and she had the same relaxed vibrant colors happy energy way of expressing herself. She is always going to be the best friend I've ever had and maybe that's why I like you so much for inspiration. But you're just talented anyways and really nice. This retreat is so dreamy and there is sounds of animals in the nature for an extra bonus. So thank you so much for your videos…

I've always wanted to try this but my fear that holds me back is the expense that could go to other family necessities. I think a solo residency can be a really thoughtful time. But yes, anxiety is a friend that can also show up unexpectedly for me. Please know I see your artist journey as so bold and inspirational! Thank you for your honesty with your mental health, because I identified with it. ❤
Yeah, the expense was defiantly something that held me back in a big way, too. I was lucky enough to nab this place on a special discount because they just started offering it and wanted to build interest and reviews. It's good to look for brand new stays because they often have special deals happening :) Thank you for your gorgeous comment ❤❤
