When I was a little girl my mother called me a little Sophie Tucker because I was a little kid with a booming singing voice and she loved when I sang. Oh how I miss my Yiddishe Mama. I’d love to sing to her again.
I thought this song was going to be sentimental schlock, but it really isn't. Yes, it has a strong sentimental appeal, but it holds its integrity. Very fine performance indeed.
Wow! What a delivery! This brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it. I came here because of a great story about this recording I saw in the documentary "The Outrageous Sophie Tucker". What a great, powerful voice!
Many years ago it was a “Shonda” ( a family embarrassment) for a Jewish girl to go into burlesque. Neighbors whispered and pointed and ridiculed her mother for her daughters actions. Her mother shed many tears for literally being dragged through the mud. Thus the sentence in the song begging for forgiveness for things that made her mother cry. The song describes the devotion of the Jewish mother to her children. The older generation of Jewish people understand more than anyone else, the loss of a mother. Youre listening to half the version. The other half of the song is in Yiddish, which few of the people I know, understand. This is my favorite version recorded about 1929.. Enjoy
Hello David, I Am 62, I can Still Remember Seeing Her On The Ed Sullivan Show In 64 and 65. Today's Entertainers Don't Come Close To Our "Red Hot Momma" If You Saw Her In Person , You Were Blessed!! Grace and Peace, Ralph in CT
My Jiddische mama, my housekeeper miss Adia Jabocs, she song always to me, and hold her in my arms to her bust, I love her our housekeeper of Friesland,, Sneek,, the Netherlands.
Listening to her perform this song it’s to conclude she was more of a captivating stage personality than singer. She could powerfully belt out a song to emotional heights, alright. A singing style flawed by interspersed cracked, off key notes.
@@SJRD18 ok lol but settle my curiosity please. I came here after seeing a meme on Facebook what drew you to this obscure video. Also I know there were great composers and Musicians in the past I was merely commenting on the audio quality.
