So just to clarify, you would never run Great Old One because of Chaos Twister, it by definition has submerge, meaning you can play it where they can't Chaos Twister it. You may get them to use there Chaos Twisters as removal earlier as well?
Hi Christopher. Correct! It wouldn't have been in the decklist if Chaos Twister was allowed in the tournament. Because: 1. Quite often you are on the backfoot with this deck, so you don't want to play it to the subsurface, you want it to be able to defend adjacent sites in addition to the site where you place it 2. You want to be able to attack with it. If it is on the subsurface that attack happens 1 turn later, and is potentially easier to defend for your opponent 3. When you do eventually attack with it, they can maybe block it, and then proceed to Chaos Twister it onto you 4. You have nothing else in your deck they are happy to use Chaos Twister on. Most decks that run Chaos Twister Run 2 of them. So by the time you play the Great Old One, if they have Chaos Twister/s in their deck, there is a high % chance they will already be holding one in their hand 5. At 16 damage to your own Face AND wiping out all your own Wizards for multi-Philosopher's-Stone-discounts, it simply isn't worth the risk 6. It isn't just Great Old One we wouldn't run. Because of Chaos Twister we pretty much don't run any minions with >= 6 power at all in any decks where Chaos Twister is allowed (there are some rare exceptions like Wraetannis Titan - pretty much exclusively in Deathspeaker decks due to it's genesis effect). Which is a real shame, because there are so many large minions that would be really fun to play in decks and could still be competitive if it wasn't for Chaos Twister. And it isn't just us, there is a noticeable absence/shortage of such minions generally across competitive deck lists where CT is allowed
I just started watching, but it looks like in the first game the Pathfinder deck plays Jihad on turn 2 with only 1 fire threshold? And then plays Vile Imp doing 3 damage, when it should only do 2?
Hi Ira. Yep seems like a mistake was made here, that neither of the commentators/judges (who were watching via the stream, not sitting at the physical table) nor any other people watching the live stream picked up. I'd say the glare on the Jihad card stopping people seeing it (and thus seeing the threshold symbols) was a large factor in that. Luckily Jarrod went on to win the game despite this! It was later picked up by Jarrod but was too hard to go back at that point. Jarrod also correctly reduced his life by 2 on his notepad tracking life totals when the Imp hit his Avatar, and this was later adjusted on the phone.
Cannot wait to listen to this whole thing. I have been running this list since the Midwinter tournament ended. 100% my style of a deck and so far locally the list is 34/2. Absolutely incredible deck and I cannot wait to see what you guys do with 50/30.
the 50/30 is going to be an interesting change for sure but it hurts pathfinder massively. I was really looking forward to making quite a few pathfinder lists in Arthurian legends but it looks like it could be pushed down the road another couple of years assuming they go to 60/40 on the next set release. As for this deck in particular i think the 30 site limit wont hurt the consistency too much due to the new sites reveled in the next set looking quite strong additions. The 50 will hurt the consistency of getting Philo quite a bit but AL might introduce some new very strong additions regardless
@@Jarrod-KatesBush As someone who LOVES pathfinder I agree, this change does hurt pathfinder but I will be curious to see what all sites we will be getting, but I am not too hopeful on her but casually she'll be a blast! Very excited to see what AL is going to add to this list, but yes not getting Stone as easily will not feel the best, but is manageable. Between Geo and DS, cannot wait to see what you guys come up with, love piloting all the wilds decks.
