This is certainly highlighting the issues of having a yearly release with the pressure of keeping the game "alive" between sets without overprinting. The problem is that if boxes are $400 or $500 bucks by October and they release a reprint one of two things will happen: 1. If the prices remain that high it won't entice new players (for the cost of it) and stores won't want to "give it away" as prize support unless they are charging $50 for an entry fee. So that won't help bring in new players. Or 2. If the box prices crash to MSRP you will have a lot of unhappy collectors who will quit the game right when they are trying to grow it. What we REALLY need is another round of Prize Support for stores to hold events. (and ongoing prize support for stores that hold regular events)
Thank you for checking out the video and leaving a comment, we really do appreciate it! I think that one set per year requires them to do what they have stated they will be doing with future sets, push out the set in waves. Hopefully, this ensures that there is product for an extended period, and it even gives them the capability to hold back, as they see with the Dust how the set is doing in different regions. Yeah, I really agree about prize support. We are arranging a big tournament in Germany, and the store doesn't have anything left from the store kit. However, the Sorcery team had been very kind to supply us with some prize support. Ideally I would love to see store kits as something that can be ordered several times, if you can demonstrate active events firing, and that store kits were limited to 6 months, and then got renewed with new art, at least for the promo cards, to keep people coming back for events. Once per year release cycle is undoubtedly an experiment, and while I have a ton of faith in the company, it is risky. I could see them decided to do more mini sets or the like to soften the wait between major sets in the future.
Thanks for checking out the video Kev! When will we get to see the All Things Constested Realm Podcast on RU-vid? I really just hope they indeed keep the reprint limited, and take even more care with what they decide to do with a reprint set, now that we between Alpha and Beta have a lot of the same cards in circulation, and I feel like they need to commission new art for any reprints.
@CardboardGuide I actually created a RU-vid Channel for the Podcast! I'll be trying to upload some audio episodes soon enough, just trying to concentrate on catching up and publishing these next 2 episodes first before I can put time into that. But it's in the works! And yeah I agree that hopefully they give us new art for reprints in the future what that happens 4 years from now haha
@KevMo-xm3lq I listen to a lot of podcast on here as well, and the monetization options, especially with all the work you put into it, is a good deal better. But so happy that the Podcast is coming to RU-vid! 🤩 I feel like there needs to be new art, simply a new set symbol wouldn’t be enough.
Up until relatively recently, I heard from several Australian players that there was still product in shops, but I assume that it might have dried up now. I think any card game needs to strike a balance between having active players, but that seems to be going really well, and maintaining some collectibility if they want to be a trading card game, but with Sorcery being a very new game, there is bound to be some areas who needed more product, and I think that will improve as the game progresses.
We hope so too! Hopefully the boxes will go to new people getting into the game and I am happy they get to experience the experience of opening the product, but at the same time I do hope they keep the reprint reasonable. 😉 Thank you for checking out the video!
Great video yall. Love your videos and support of this awesome game. Hopefully this will help the regions that were short supplied and help build the community.
Love the game as a competitive player. However, in my opinion a game won't be collectible from 1/2 set releases and what makes it collectible is longevity (think base set pokemon cards years later) The game has to grow, acquire new players, and most importantly have product available to attract new players. I've asked 3 LGS's if they would carry and run events for Sorcery and they all said the same thing. They can't get product. That's a horrible problem to have for a company if you ask me. People wanting to give you money but you won't allow them. Again, no means talking bad about the game or the company. But I think they need to put a little less focus on collectability and more focus on growing and sustaining the game.
Agree. I’m trying to find product since December without luck. My friends weren’t able to even get precons, we play with mine when we meet. We can’t care less about opinion of collectors in America who had enough product readily availble for a year. Here in Europe in smaller countries like Czech Republic it was available only for about 3 months. Boxes were twice the price folks in US would pay.. not comparable situation at all. Wish there is more product to be on shelves, in other words, wish there was a normal market situation where they’d take our money as happily as other card games do - we have seen 0 cards from this announced reprint yet.
I think that a limited reprint targeting areas with very low supply initially is fine, but there are a lot of singles out there. I think Beta precons is something I would rather see reprinted, and they also make the foundation for new players, also for Arthurian Legends, since that set will not have precons. Thanks for checking out the video! 🙏🏻
I wouldn't be too worried about AL when it drops. Beta is there for the regions that need it. The NA region will be going full bore on AL because we wont be seeing much (if any) of that beta reprint. Because thats the case most of us will be going head first into AL when it drops in October later this year!
Thanks for checking out the video. I think that the worry is also that you really want the entire focus on Arthurian Legends, since we only get one (at least only one main set) set per year. It does sound like they are keeping it limited and regional specific. It was interesting to see the subscriptions for Arthurian Legends from Team Covenant being sold out, so a lot of early interest.
Without intending to sound snarky, look at how that has played out for Magic as an example of why it would not be a good idea in Sorcery. The collectability of Magic has been eroded to almost nothing thanks to overprinting and variants. The singular thing that can appeal to collectors is keeping supply in check. As soon as you adopt the "game piece" mindset, it's all over.
Thank you for checking out the video. I think they are striking a nice balance and this is still the first retail set, so it will be interesting to see how they navigate this with Arthurian Legends.
We definitely need more Beta boxes in the UK. Can't find any boxes anywhere near RRP here! :( I do wonder whether limiting the new set to 250 cards was a good idea when it will need to keep people's attention for a full year before the next set comes out? Maybe they should have expanded that to 400 like Alpha/Beta.
I think I heard a couple of stores in the UK got a little restock a little while ago. Arthurian Legends will be 250 cards plus, but that doesn’t mean that the next set couldn’t be as big as Alpha/Beta. It is still very early and Beta was the first set to retail, and from what I have seen so far, I absolutely trust the creative vision, and I am very excited for AL! 😉 Which set do you hope they do after AL?
@@CardboardGuide I just bought the last case that Double Sleeved had in stock. I also picked up 2 boxes from Unicorn Cards but when I went back for more, they were sold out. I'm trying to fill out a Beta set of non-foils but don't like buying singles. I will definitely pick up a case of AL when it comes out. The set after AL won't come out until Q4 2025 which is too far in the future for me to worry about! :)
Thank you for checking out the video. Right now the tournament and events page of Sorcery Play Network shows tons of events coming up in many regions. We had Sorcery Con, March of the Mortals with massive coverage, the major event Courtesan Cup, and we ourselves are co-hosting the first bigger event in Europe. The game is really buzzing and this is physical play, the League of TTS is also going strong and there are always people playing and looking for games online. I have actually been really surprised to see the enthusiasm from the community for arranging play and the events have been well attended/sold out. 🙂 I think for now there is no reason for concern and even though the game is very visually appealing, the gameplay is excellent and very interesting. 😉
I have an unopened Sorcery beta box. I knew I should have ordered more than one because now I want to open one. I wouldn't dare with the value doubled as it is. I would like to get a couple of booster boxes of Arthurian Legends, but at Covenant, they are only available via subscription model. How do I lock in a box without having to sub?
Hi there, thanks for checking out the video. For Arthurian Legends, I wouldn’t be concerned, once the product is released you will be able to just buy one from Team Covenant, and you can cancel the subscription. However, with I once a year release cadence it might be fine, otherwise maybe you local game store might be persuaded to do a preorder when they open up? We did several preorders here in Europe, as soon as preorders came up, and will do so as soon as we see them again. We also have a TC subscription for the promo (and as fail safe in case Europe gets delayed, again 😉).
You Both Do Such A Great Job!! I'm Getting the Vibes That The Game Creators Are Getting Too Many Yes Men Around them. They Are Wavering on print runs release dates. Major Issues. Instead of cleaning that up, they are going to spread themselves thinner by going to these events around the world. It must be Hard To Keep Your Head Down for Your Games Sake. Flesh n blood is good example that 1 set overprinted as your not a decade established can Literally Destroy your entire game. Good on them for pivoting and most likely able to pivot because they working in 5-10 year plan. Sorcery seemed like it started that way, but are taking a wrong turn to Albiqurky. The cards are so sweet. Please Don't listen to the yes men, limit, limit limit. I couldn't even sniff a Beta Box. It's Ok. That means there is still value in it
Thank you so much for the kind words. I definitely hope that the team continues to walk the fine line between growing the game organically and making sure that they don't overdo it. I feel that if/when they do a reprint like set (Simon brought up a Revised set), that is will be a few year away, especially since they are now adding more Beta into the wild. I do think making appearances at conventions is both about getting around and meeting fans, but also making contacts with more distribution, partners and games stores. I also think that we, Jens and I, are a bit old school, and okay with the idea that some sets you miss out on, if you didn't get in early enough, but there are nuances, like Europe had extremely low stock from the beginning, a lot was already sold from preorders back in April/May, while everyone in the US could buy from Team Covenant for over 5 months. I have a lot of faith in the team, the art I have seen for Arthurian Legends is just stunning and it might be one of my favorite myths, and I have very high hopes for the art and the entire set!
I suspect that the new Beta wave will not have a meaningful impact on AL sales. That would require a class of player who would buy AL if it were the only set available later this year, but, when presented with both Beta and AL, would opt to buy only Beta and forego AL--i.e., someone who desperately wants Beta but would settle for anything. I don't think a ton of players are going to fall into that category. I think actually it will be the opposite, and the additional Beta product will serve to enhance AL sales as it brings a few more people into the game who will see a path to engage with the community that is already enfranchised as well as explore new ground with them. But speaking of new Beta waves, as the 6000 boxes from Rudy's sale slowly start getting out there over the next 30 days, what kind of effect do you think that will have on the market for sealed and singles?
Thank you for the in depth comment and for checking out the video. 😉 I think the primary demographic for the game is 30+ and affluent, so I suspect it might be less of an issue. But it is not only the danger of some sales being eaten by one’s own product, but also the excitement and fanfare of a reprint and the main set for 2024 arriving the same day. Ideally, I would have loved if they had just released Beta in September and then Arthurian Legends in October, hopefully!🤞🏻 I think Rudy’s 6K boxes is probably not going to move the needle a lot, and especially since they will be shipping out over 30 days. Some singles seem to have found a new high, and I don’t see the Rudy boxes making a major difference there either, but we are following the prices to look for any changes.
@@CardboardGuide I agree, September would have been better. But it could be a logistics issue. Paying for two shipments instead of one, etc. I'm hoping that the new Rudy boxes and the upcoming reprint will cause a bunch of paper hands to liquidate, and I can get my PStone and the rest of my Cores for a good price XD
@@CardboardGuide Set completion. Unfortunately I have no one to play with physically, so I can only play on TTS. But I really would like to create a framed display of the Sorcery "power 9". Dunno if I'll attempt to get every single Beta card, but I at least want the 9.
@@asaffin1 Yeah, I completely get that. We have the Alpha and Beta set, but we are trying to complete the foil Beta Alchemy Nine, just a little more slowly after the recent price increase. :) I am sorry to hear that, we are fortunate to be able to play with each other and there is also a community of players in Denmark, even if it isn't local to us, it is close enough to go for events and the like.
@@CardboardGuide you guyz 🥹💚 not too bad as we say here ^^ would love to get more sorcery products ive had a lil quite time lately being busy with life stuff but hope to be able to join in soon again. Maybe even make it to the white rabbit :) how are you doing?? Looking great 🫵
We always remember names and people, and especially of early supporters. ❤️ We are doing good, busy as ever trying to juggle life, work, the channel and currently also arranging some really cool stuff for the White Rabbit event! Yes, we would love to see you, we will be traveling in from Denmark on the Friday to participate in the players dinner and then hanging out all Saturday for the tournament. 🤩
@@CardboardGuide best wishes for all that youre gonna be doing ✌🏼 dude i love that theyre doing this and go You guys for that. Sooo cool. Ill honestly try to make it happen 😊 Btw is this already connecting with AL??
That is a mistake, sorry, as non-native speakers we make slip ups every now and then. The coming reprint is the first according to the Sorcery team. Thank you for checking out the video! 😉
Thanks for checking out the video. We don’t have any affiliation with the company, Erik’s Curiosa, who make Sorcery Contested Realm. If you have questions, get in touch with the team on the official Discord or email. 🙂
I feel kinda mixed about this. I'm happy folks in other regions will get their cards as the initial distribution did not seem fair. Unfortunately, I really think this is going to affect collectability though as now there is a major risk of them just printing more, whether it's this set or any future sets. Might be time for me to dump my curio and foils, and just be happy having a plain set to play with. I think if they were open and honest about their print run numbers, that would go a long way in restoring trust. It's just not financially feasible to print a "small" rerun. We know it's going to be in the 10's of thousands just from how the financials of printing goes, so this risks substantially diluting the market.
Thank you for checking out the video! I know the feeling, I feel like the reprint needs to indeed be very, very limited. However, I get the feeling that this does not open the floodgates, Erik and the team seem very committed to ensuring the collectibility of the set. This limited reprint will be small and target three specific areas that did not get any/enough product. Hopefully that should be very quickly absorbed and have little effect, at least if it is limited enough. I think one ways they are making it feasible is printing Beta alongside Arthurian Legends (which comes with its own set of consequences), and thereby allowing them to do a smaller scaled print of Beta, but I don’t know. I think high end foils and Curios will always be so limited that they are going to have collectibility. I do know that Arthurian Legends looks amazing and I have faith in the team based on several talks with them, and I think they are navigating this well so far.
@@mishrazz That is not a limited reprint since Alpha only had a print run of 29,000 boxes. I guess it serves the hoarders right and they will dump their 20 cases they accumulated from Team Covenant from Nov-March. Early supporters of the Beta Pre-release did well thanks to the Brian Smith promo Lightning Bolt. Boxes only cost $75-$50 since the promo has been selling for $75-$100.
@@asaffin1 2k boxes for Europe would'nt even make a dent. The 6k Rudy boxes were gone in a few minutes, and Europe has been dry for months. This is their chance of correcting the mistake of sending something like 90% of the product to one region
I think saying anything based on just the first, and so far only, retail release feels a bit prematurely to me. The game is exciting and excellent for both 1 v 1 and four player is extremely fun too!
Some critique for your channel: Please, don't start these click bait type of titels. I like your content a lot but would hate to see it grow in a direction like most other channels, where deceivment is used on purpose to generate interaction. Titeling "Beta reprint" and in the first sentences following up with "its not what you think" is unfortunately so disappointing for me as a viewer. Maybe this helps your channel for further considerations
We appreciate the feedback, and I think this title is in line with most of our title, we never do clickbait, which indicate that the video isn’t actually about the topic. This video is all about the reprint of Beta, which wasn’t just a normal reprint, but rather a limited and region specific one. We are sorry to hear that you find it disingenuous, especially since we think we strive to deliver valuable information, but we also have to accept the premise that we need to think about piqueing interest. We don’t feed on hype or thumbnails with exaggerated facial expressions, and we make video because we love the game.
