Good stuff fellows! Down here in south GA Sugar Cane ( similar to Sorghum) is used to make Syrup, Molasses etc. Brewed a 5 gallon batch with 11# 2 row and 25 ozs. of Pure Cane Syrup. Not bad, a little sweet for me. Next batch will use 8 - 12 oz of syrup and see how that works out. Cheers! Don Ho.
James, Over here in Ga, we call it sorghum syrup. I've brewed with it a couple of times. I used it to make a big American Brown. It does tend to leave some residual sweetness so I dial up the hops a bit to balance it out. Of course, the prime southern use for sorghum syrup is on a homemade biscuit. Try it at breakfast sometime with biscuits, eggs and sausage. It'll change your life!!!!
Nice video! I once made a low SG dry stout with some sorghum syrup that my dad made. Turned out pretty well, and the flavor impact was noticeable. Definitely depends on how much you use and how long the syrup was cooked, though.
Is this the same kind of sorghum used in gluten-free beers? Did it add a twinge of aluminum flavor to the beer? That's been my experience with gluten-free beers made with sorghum.
