The powerful vampiric lord of Innistrad, Olivia Voldaren is set to married here "beloved". The groom is none other than Edgar Markov, scion of House Markov and Sorin's Grandfather. Sorin charges into the wedding head first, with the intention to strongly object.
Edgar Markov was stolen from his resting place within Markov Manor. Can Sorin free his grandfather before he is coopted into Olivia's power grab? Will Sorin FIGHT his new step-grandmother??

Crazy seeing how far planeswalkers have fallen with The Mending. A room full of 100+ old and strong vampires wouldn't have even been child's play back then yet now one of the very oldest and most powerful planeswalkers is utterly helpless against them.

Wotc killed their lore and diluted key players to nothing but children. Their narrative limp and boring, catering to short term profits and lowest common denominator story crafting.

@@irontemplar6222 Sure but Sorin is a powerful Sangromancer for whatever that is worth now.... he should have been able to hold his own at least in a room of vampires. Elspeth fought off several New Phyrexians when she, Venser, and Koth went to rescue Karn on Mirroden. Liliana can resurrect scores of undead to fight off the Eldrazi. Kaya can fight and dispatch several types of monsters, demons, and Archdemons in just a few hours on Kaldheim. Avacyn cast a spell over the whole Plane of Innistrad. Barrin (a mortal Wizard) on Dominaria cast a spell that destroyed the surface of a whole island wiping out hundreds of Phyrexians. How many Markovs did Nahiri kill in Markov Manner only to still be in good enough condition battle Sorin later in the day? But Sorin can't kill 100 or so vampires? Its odd to say the least. The writing can be very inconsistent involving planeswalkers at times.

Yea, it’s really bad writing. He’s a planeswalker and the strongest vampire in the lore by far… he made and destroyed Avacyn. This ark is just silly

He probably takes long walks to clear his head pondering his options a man who tried to preserve the status quoe now with his world unraveled by former friend and starved titans only to undo his peacekeeper and be a bystander to what is likely the most awkward event in his life watching his grandfather marry someone sorin probably grew up with

@@Pcervelli11 Well, he did lose most of his power in the mending since creating Avacyn and was only able to destroy her because he knew the exact ritual that had created her. Although planeswalkers are often strong mages and fighters, they can definitely be overpowered by groups of strong planebound creatures. But these are 8+ guards with silver chains and Sorin is being fooling in only having eyes for Voldaren. These are what? 3/3 creatures? With equipment? In 1 attack these should do a lot of damage. More then the 20 needed to bring down a planeswalker in 1 turn I would say. Sure, it's somewhat silly to compare it to gameplay like that. But when he was with Nahiri there where 2 of them and the vampires didn't have time to attack all at once and they had time to mount defensive spells and such. That is how my headcanon makes sense of this at least. But yeah, I think the creative team has a hard time keeping the power levels of the various entities in the story consistent throughout the many stories.

@@BrianBors sure, I get that and respect your analysis. Apply the same to Teferi and Kaya who achieve ridiculous feats on the regular. Both are substantially younger and less experienced.

Could Edgar just be playing along? It is difficult to believe that the progenitor of vampires would be so easily controlled unless he wished or allowed it. All this insanity started from his delusions and vices, so perhaps he does want this problem to self destruct.

Post Mending Sorin also rewrote history of an entire plane to resurrect a dragon. He was massively nerfed after Eldritch Moon. And now he basically a brooding teen.

Genuinely appreciate how the story continuously manages to go from humour to violence in a snap though I still feel like we miss a big chapter in this whole matter. Would love to see Arlinn and the Cathars- I'm sure I didn't mention Thalia, did I?- taking the big role in the next events while Sorin is facing his limits and how much he's been messing up those past decades, but that's just me. Always a great rendez-vous, see you

Unfortunately Planeswalkers don't actually open portals per se. Each PW walks differently, but they all only move themselves into and between planes. Sorin for instance disappears into a puff of smoke, I believe, while the merfolk PW Kiora* "swims" into the Blind Eternities when she leaves a plane. Karn the Silver Golem like collapses into himself super quickly with a little metallic *PING!* I think, which I think is super cute *Edit: Kiora is the Planeswalker, Thassa is a god on the Plane of Theros who had her signature weapon stolen by Kiora in a story event

I'm thinking Edgar isn't enthralled. Sorin alluded to Edgar always being a few steps ahead. I'm thinking this is gonna be some sort of Code Geass type shenanigans where Edgar knew this outcome the whole time and he dethrones Olivia and that'll be the end of her.

It's actually not a weak card at all in standard right now. I've been playing Dimir control and he slots perfectly into it, gives you a life gain chump which is relevant and his +1 is literally just Dark Confidant effect, nothing to scoff at trust me.

i just realized sorin probably grew up with oliva so now he has to watch a girl he knew as a kid and grew up with marry his grandfather for political reasons... i cannot imagine how uncomfortable a situation that is to be in considering innastradian vampirism does restore the individuals youth but halts aging at the point of becoming a vampire

I liked the story until Sorin got overpowered by a single vampire with a chain. I just don't get how a 6000+ year old planeswalking vampire can't stop a coupl vampire guards with the snap of a finger

I get it that he can't just blow the place up, even though he's able to. He can't destroy the key, he can't harm his grandad, he can't start a battle. Olivia has triple hostages: artifact, gramps, and humans. This fine line adds tension and is quite welcome. But... letting his emotions get the best of him in such a childish way, when it matters the most. It's almost like Sorin is nerfing himself... either that or... ... Or the story people at Wizards want something very specific to happen at the end and decided to heavy-hand the characters into following a path that leads to that. :/
