@@phoebecaulfield4062 you can forget things in books. Doesn’t mean they haven’t read it. You wrote a thesis on it so you literally broke down the whole book. Some of us just read to read. When you are writing something based on the book you are more likely to pick up on things and remember thing especially if you’ve written notes on it. And when you start another book before making a video on the old one you forget details. It happens.
YES! I'm always twisting my neck and back trying to sneak a peek at the cover of the book a person is reading... Or I feel like I am completely awkwardly staring at them until they shift so I can catch a glimpse 😂
This feels like those fashion videos where celebrities review their past looks and give great content. So, this is the ‘Vanity Fair’ video with English-language books.
omg i would LOVE a Paris version of the reading books that people were reading on the underground video! Such a good idea. Fun little way to kind of sample what people are reading in different places
I don't understand why more people don't go to the library. If you read a book from there that you love, or the one you want isn't available then you can buy it to have it permanently. I read maybe 150 books a year all from a library.
@@ginnyweasley1683 unfortunately, many many people do not have a decently stocked library that is accessible to them. My library is more of a community centre for families with small children (which is great) but their book stock is skewed as such.
@@ginnyweasley1683 a lot of (if not most) people dont have access to a library at all, nevermind one that is stocked well enough with books other than out-of-date reference books, some classics, and a dictionary.
You telling us all your upcoming videos has me so hyped for the next few months! Cottagecore?? Strangers on the train??? Dark academia??? Tallying booktube books?? You honestly have the best ideas and the videos are always exceptionally entertaining
When you get back to France (and your french is a bit better perhaps), I’d love to see you visit some of the English language chateau restoring channels on RU-vid and see their libraries/book collections. Stephanie from the ‘chateau diaries’ has a book collection and is an English grad, Billy on ‘doing it ourselves’ has fairly recently purchased the wooden shelving from an old library for his chateau….just as an example.
you should definitely publish that non-fiction book list! I like the IDEA of reading non-fiction, but because there are so many smaller categories that branch from the one genre, it can be overwhelming to choose which ones i want to read...
Hey Jack, please share your non fiction book list. I've been trying to incorporate one non fiction book in my monthly TBR as well, so it'd be like a project we could do together ahaha. Also, would love to know your other reading goals for 2022!
Omg same. I want to read more non fiction. I already have a few books on my tbr pile. But for the most part I know I'm simply going to read whatever type of topic I'm interested in more, like maybe astrophysics or essays about religion and the like. I read this book called "God is not great" by Christopher Hitchens and I'm absolutely reading more of his essays. I highly recommend it!!
Two non fiction books that are worth it and maybe you’ll enjoy: - somebody’s daughter - So you’ve been publicly shamed I hope this helps until Jack replies :)
The Anthropocene Reviewed is great as is Endurance by Alfred Lansing. This is going to hurt is autobiographical and a lot of fun with heart wrenching sections
Born a crime by Trevor Noah is lovely! If you can, get the audiobook. It's somewhat of a mix of autobiography, coming-of-age and comedy. Trevor Noah tells us stories about his childhood in South Africa, growing up in apartheid as the product of a black mother and a white father, his quest to find a place in his skin and homeland. Overall, the life he'd had and experiences shared are interesting, entertaining and in some instances thought-provoking. The title is also narrated by the author which gives nuance to the already great writing. Trevor Noah is a talented storyteller and speaker. It's no wonder he made a career out of it.
You should do a series where you get books you haven’t read before, read the first chapter and then read the last chapter, after that make a review if you’d read the whole book or try to make predictions what happened in the book. :)
First of all: what an excellent wine cellar you have there! Also, the idea to collect and tally the booktuber recommendations, yes, the kind of service we need! Finally: I joined a reading challenge inspired by your recommendations. Well, I could have just read them without adding a challenge on top, but I choose to overcomplicate things whenever I can.
Honestly, I love this kind of videos. They are simple but they are comforting. And also I get to be excited because of the upcoming videos on the main channel. (basically i love any kind of content as long as u are happy with the videos u put out there 🤍)
All of your videos are genuinely my comfort videos! I love to see when you have a new video up😀 never fail to make me laugh! I’m obsessed with reading but you make me love it even more so thank you❤️
love the idea of a cottagecore video! a books i would recommend that i haven't seen on any lists are The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elizabeth Tova Bailey, which is a really short and quiet memoir about chronic illness and finding joy in something small (i.e. snail), and also Growth of the Soil by Knut Hamsun, a Norwegian classic about homesteading in a remote countryside. i read these two recently and they both had strong cottagecore vibes
Jack! I always get a laugh, I love your wit, I always get inspired to read, and you’re feeding my passion for literature. Thanks for being awesome. While I was on my lunch, one of my coworkers saw me listening to the podcast you were on recently and asked what I was listening to. I explained & they said they wanted to get back into reading. We talked about books for a bit and I recommended your channel ! About to share with my sister who became a big reader. From 2nd-8th grade, I read hundreds and hundreds of books. Unfortunately I stopped, but all the while I still couldn’t get my sister to read anything. When I got a job, she got bored so she decided to read, funnily enough. Now i’m FINALLY getting back into books. Going into freshman year of college and am super excited to delve into so many stories once again. Long story long I love your content and my day is literally made brighter when I see an upload.
I kind of feel this will be my new comfort video. I was doing some weekend organising as well while listening to the video and it just felt so relaxing and fun ^^
this whole channel is just pure comfort for me. every video has great vibes and the way you speak about books makes me SO happy and make me want to actually read?? like its great
When Jack says he just buys books that look interesting and therefore has a ton of unread books, I feel that. That is me. 😂 If I see a book that looks interesting that I want to read, if I don't buy it, I'll probably forget about it.
I love this chill sit down chat :) I’m PUMPED for that booktube video! I’d love to hear more about your anticipated releases for 2022 and any books that you could have/would have written a dissertation on, i think it’s hella interesting but I could also just be nosey
Really enjoyed this video! Nice to see your thought process while going through these books. Got a bit excited when I saw M.L. Rio's book as I absolutely loved it when I read it!
I love the videos where you read books you’ve seen other people read. I used to commute into London and I loved scoping out and googling all the other books I saw.
also, would definitely love to peek at your non-fiction list! I've got a pretty long one too and ... i read them in the background of all the fiction stuff, which I found works better for me than trying to read them all at once
I read The Maidens a couple weeks ago and I really enjoyed it! I would love to see you go for another Dark Academia inspired video (or aesthetics in general), because last one gave me so many good recommendations
You are the most wholesome youtuber ever! No matter how bad or good I feel, always at the end of your videos I'm smiling. Feeling wonderful. There is something about your sweet jokes and the puns (bless the puns), your calmness and you just being yourself that is so charming and heartwarming. Big thank you for your videos, I really needed that one just now, when I saw it in my feed. also great ideas about future videos, especially loved the one including Ann of green gables.
i bought more books today after telling myself i was on a buying ban so thank you for making me feel better about my spending habits!! also yolk was my favourite book of 2021 you need to read it asap!!!!!
7:52 I thought you were talking about your parents, feeling bad that your books take space in their garage, but then I realized it's the books you feel bad for😆
Hi Jack: Loved the video and the nostalgia too! One thing I beg of your family, however, is to keep those books indoors. Garages are prone to moisture (even just from morning dew) and large fluctuations in temperature. Even with the bins you are using, eventually those books will end up softening and either falling apart, or worse, develop mould and be completely destroyed. While the house is not climate controlled like a specialist archive library, it is still a much drier and less environmentally damaging environment. Other ideas I thought about while watching: 1. For books you are willing to depart with, try asking Mom and Dad to make a regular contribution to your local Little library. Even though our town is a dot compared to Brighton and the surrounding area, we have no less than 3 Little Libraries and they are always looking for books to offer the local townspeople and visitors. 2. Our local train stations also offer Reading Shelves for commuters to pick up something for their journey, usually with only a request for a small donation in return. Both of these would give back to your local community and clear out some of the books you know, for sure, you won’t be picking up again or giving away as gifts. Looking forward to the themes you mentioned! Perhaps 2023 Jack Edwards first Fiction novel?? Loads of love, 🌹
would love to see a list of the non-fiction you're reading this year, trying to read more non-fiction at the moment I have 7 to read but want to go with one a month!
Brother is one of my favorite books of all time. The feelings it gave me coming from a single mother household were overwhelming and somewhat comforting.
I'd love to see your non-fiction books list, since reading more nonfic books is one of my 2022 goals! I was having a bit of a bad day and this video made my afternoon :))
this is extremely cozy 😻😻 also very excited for the upcoming vids you mentioned! mostly for the 100 youtubers’ recs, sounds like a good old meta analysis, hope you include some stats for the nerds 😹 xx
I discovered your channel last month and thank you for uploading Jack! I was really in a down time because my grandfather was admitted to the hospital today. But you made me smile!😭
Hi Jack, is it possible that you do a video on how to get around reading classic books? Like where to start and how to motivate ourselves to actually get through with it. Tnx! Loved this one
Meg has done some videos looking back at a certain time period and seeing what booktubers were reading, and Kayla has read Booktubers faves, but ya love the booktube idea
I actually love these rant videos, they're so comforting to watch. Like we're just hanging out while you sort through books. Very good for parasocial engagement :D Keep it up!
i love your videos so much! at the risk of sounding parasocial, it makes it feel like im on a facetime with a friend and i usually play your videos in the background as i do homework or code so i appreciate the (virtual) company
Just like yourself I am constantly buying books that look interesting despite having tons yet to read. I call my pile of tbr (to be read) books “book Mountain”. I need to stop buying books but after seeing a recent video today I just added Edward Lear Book of Nonsense… thanks Jack!!! 😁 Currently reading MORDEW by Alex Pheby which is reading like Gormenghast meets Oliver Twist… Ps. The idea that some people only read one or two books a year horrifies me.
i loved your dark academia video! I found your channel during the pandemic because of The Take's video about dark academia were part of your DA video was featured. (excuse my english, im from Spain) Im so happy I found your channel. You, Ariel Bisset and uncarley are my top book content creators!! Thanks for sharing with us your content! ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Collecting and tallying booktuber recommendations and then reading them is such a fun idea! Booksandlala has a couple similar videos on that concept and they're very interesting, definitely recommend her channel!
