So... ground effect vehicles. They are very much a thing, albeit never used much. The key principle is that flying close to the ground has an air cushioning effect which makes the aircraft lift heavier loads, much heavier loads. Did you notice how many mechs they loaded up? Yes, that's normally not something you can carry with a single plane unless it's like 3 times this long. The thing is though that ground effect vehicles are still airplanes. They can fly and reach altitude. Also for a plane this huge they could get away with going significantly higher to still have the ground effect. Few meters may actually be a bit too close realistically speaking. As for why the experience is so rough, using ground effect is akin to riding the turbulence. Did you ever experience the plane shaking during a commercial flight? Now imagine your entire trip being that and at supersonic velocities. The cockpit is probably safe from the worst but people in the cargo hold should feel every shake and vibration of their travel.

With all of the theories and predictions they've been making. The final two episodes of this series will amaze them for sure!

So "ground-effect" is a real thing, it has to do with the way the air moves over the wings when you're close to a massive horizontal surface like the ground or the ocean. More interestingly though, "ground-effect vehicles" are apparently a thing that have been experimented with in the real world, it's just that it's insanely fucking dangerous to be flying with such a small margin for error, so they've never seen wide-spread adoption.

I love that shot at the end showing Shin's crazy smile as he's hearing all the voices!

It's a bit strange how the brothers seem to like how "edgy" or "badass" Shin can be in his Reaper moments whereas the story doesn't really portray them in a good light. When he smiles at the end for example, they seem eager to watch a scene of badassery while for me, it's just sad to see Shin in this state. This arc shows him going into a despair route, sinking deeper and deeper into madness and Frederica is right with all the things she is saying to him, but for Jacob for exemple, it's like Frederica is always wrong because she is just a child and Shin is in the right while the story clearly shows us that he is not and that living like how 86 are living is wrong.

Its honestly one of my favourite episodes. I love the moment when they launch the mission. And the audio production when the glider is launching.

I do think Frederica is right by pointing out the Federacy's hypocrisy. They have been screaming from the top of the roofs that they're not like the Republic, yet on this mission they don't even have a come back plan. Which would point out that the higher ups already assumed they'll die in battle

I love how just before the launch of the 86 squadron, there's all this buildup of people and countries coordinating to draw the Legion forces away from the Morpho. It just goes to show that even though they don't like the 86 squadron, they're willing to put their lives on the line because they really do believe in their skills to get the mission done.

Ground effect is an interesting idea, but it has serious limitations that have prevented wide use. Still, the physics and potential do raise intriguing concepts. And crazy ones like the proposed 600mph flying Soviet aircraft carrier design.

All major military equipment should be deployed with that big of a THX bass drop. And that was *definitely* a railgun launch. Also, I think you're right about Frederica hiding in Fido, especially since "oh she's locked herself in her room and is sulking" is a bullshit dodge at best when they don't show the person sulking, or sneaking out to watch them leave from an overhead gantry or whatever. However, I think she got herself there and Shin's only collusion is knowing she's almost certainly in there and not checking Fido's cargo or interrogating Fido. Shin was in the 86 military at about her age, not 100% by choice but he did have his personal mission to find his brother. I think he has a level of respect for Frederica's choice, and he is also aware she's basically a walking McGuffin for getting Kiri to stand down, as you say.

Say what you will about the soldiers of the Federacy, but when it came down to it, they didn't run from duty or hide from death. This, was their finest hour.

This masterpiece is way too underrated…

To put things in perspective, they were traveling aprox 414 mph or 666 kph. At 3-4 meters off the ground. More perspective, the speed of sound is 343 kph, so, close to Mach 2.

Hello and Moin Moin ;) Its a great episode again, even if your edit reduced it a bit to much. But thats only my humble opinion. :) The discussion: wonderful as always with some nice ideas. FACT: This ground effect vehicle really exists, or better existed. It was a soviet invention to attack US and NATO ships on the ocean. If you search YT for EKARNOPLAN or CASPIAN SEA MONSTER you can find information about the physics and the soviet program during the cold war. Frederica: Well I think she smuggled herself into Fido's containers. Only Fido it. Nobody else does. CYA P.S.: I think I will check your reactions to ' Reincarnated as a Slime ' also this week.
