Sorry about the delay with this everyone! RWBY Volume 8 has concluded with our party split up and many fell into the void of space?! What are your thoughts about the episode and the Volume's direction? Leave your thoughts in the comments below!
I'm curious to know what you guys think about Penny's role in this and last Volume. Do you feel that her character was just brought back only to be a 'gatekeeper' to the Maiden power, or that her death in this volume was less impactful than her death in Volume 3?
Pretty sure Cinder killed Watts, not just as an FU for his "critiques" of her, but also because, with Neo gone, he's the only one that knows she used the last wish.
“...in a single day and night of misfortune, the island of Atlantis disappeared into the depths of the sea.” -Plato, 360 B.C. Atlantis (Ancient Greek: Ἀτλαντὶς νῆσος, "island of Atlas")
Jaune's sword breaking is two things: One, it's a reference to how Joan of Arc considered her sword holy and thus would never spill blood with it (a belief based on various legends about how holy blades would break if they spilled innocent blood), and two, every character in this setting uses Aura to strengthen their weapons and Jaune was probably so rattled by what he had to do that he couldn't use his Aura on his still blood-soaked sword.
It also broke to where the part that broke had most of the blood which could show that it was not his fault but there is still a little left to show that he isn't entirely not at fault either. Sorry words does not want to work together lol
I always read that line as an emphasis on how different Winter and Yang are as older sisters "I'm not always going to be around to save you, Weiss" vs "I've always got your back, sis"
@@nintandao64 In Winter's defense she isn't on the same team as Weiss the way Yang and Ruby are. Weiss chose to go to a completely different kingdom to train as a huntress. "I need to know you can protect yourself" is the typical reaction when someone gets separated from the person they've spent most of their life protecting.
The credits song is a Penny song... You can hear her leitmotif... I'm so sad... It's about her being happy she's human because she can experience the world properly now, just to dig that knife in further. Sacrificing yourself so your friends can live, we should all be so lucky.
Regarding the title of the finale, 'The Final Word' and its thematic significance: The term 'checkmate' actually has its roots in Persian and possibly Sanskrit and/or Arabic, from the term 'شاه مات' (Shāh māt). 'Shāh' is essentially 'king' while 'māt' would mean 'helpless', but in Sanskrit, 'māt' sometimes pronounces 'māta' means 'remained' (in the sense of being the last thing left after devastation). A similar metaphor with chess was present in scenes involving Jaques' office in volume 4, 7 and 8 which is analogous of his mindgames with Ironwood and Watts. Others however insist the 'māt' part is of Arabic origin due to how the West first got introduced to Chess and if that is the case, and the writers were aware of this with Ironwood being a essentially a 'king' in a game of Chess, then the term that ended this volume is confirmation, because it would mean 'the king is dead'.
"Checkmate" The biggest "FU" Cinder could have said to him given the chess piece she left in his office; on top of the intro showing him on a chess board.
I doubt Salem actually cares that much....Atlas problem is solved, she's halfway to her goal....she doesn't need Watts anymore either. Sure, the last question would make finding the Beacon relic easier, but she's confident they will eventually. She probably knows Cinder is lying....if anything she respects the hustle....Cinder is becoming more and more like her master..."Never underestimate the usefulness of others...."
@@DvirPick she'd have to define how it becomes inescapable... Which feels like a stretch for Cinder to pull off. But... Meh. That would logically be what she'd need to wish for.
@@rinkusan978 "Sealed and indestructible" is not that much of a stretch for Cinder. Plus, she saw our protagonists' plans on how to deal with Ambrosious so she would know what to expect.
So for the Alice in Wonderland arc, are we going to get a Red Queen/Queen of Hearts? Also, we don't know the situation with the Summer Maiden, but I can see Winter teaming up with Raven to take down Cinder at some point. Stylistically, their character designs contrast amazingly, and their character arcs aren't so different. Both hiding behind a duty to avoid taking responsibility for their choices.
Remember, when someone uses a relic, time stops, so before CINDER left through the portal, the STAFF OF CREATION glowed. So that means that when she used it,.time stopped. So that's why the world created by team RWBY with the STAFF disappeared so quickly because time stopped on their end.
I would wager that the tree is Yggdrasil, the Norse World Tree, whose roots touch all Nine Realms... Ooooh, other world theory. Remnant is not the only world the Brothers made. Ambrosius also alluded to other realms made by the gods. For Remnant, they said it was an experiment... and a failed one at that. I'm curious what they call a success. Humans without free will? I recall Monty discussed multiple creation mythos of real world cultures back in the RT podcasts on world building, so it's curious if he incorporated multiple creation mythos into his own fairy tale masterpiece as well. Nora went through to get backup from the other side not knowing it was one way. Her desperately beating on the portal broke my heart. I can only imagine their collective pain when Winter comes out and the portal closes, but RWBY and Jaune are nowhere to be seen.
Whenever I see a big tree I always think 'Yggdrasil' - it would be interesting to see if this realm has people on it and what exactly those 'people' look like.
Oh, Cinder knows she succeeded. She's groveling to ingratiate herself to Salem. She's 110% gonna try a backstab. In fact, I have a theory that Cinder deliberately used up the last question in part so Salem can't locate the Crown of Choice; that way, there's more time for Cinder to collect all the Maiden powers before her big inevitable power play.
Plus, Cinder covered her ground and made sure no one could betray her, by knocking Neo off and trapping Watt's in the burning room. Great reaction! I'm still speechless from this episode, but I reallllly can't wait to see Juane and Neo with Team RWBY. However, Juane is going to have to tell Ruby and the others about Penny.
I don't remember who mentioned it, but Penny's body was still laying there on the walkways. So when they disappeared, her body fell and will likely land somewhere near someone.
7:07 Ruby and co. have fought for 48+ hours without proper rest, food, or drink, whereas Neo has had time. If Ruby and co. were fully rested and prepared, the fight would've gone way differently. Yes, Neo is acrobatic and shit, but she's not untouchable. 21:00 that's alright, neither does Miles, Kerry, or Grey. They don't like the idea of any of team RWBY becoming Maidens.
plus her disarming strike had Ruby swinging Crescent Rose with just her left while holding the relic in her right, a HUGE disadvantage against a superior, rested opponent.
Honestly, I think it will happen to Ruby, because that's really the only way that she'll be able to stand up to Cinder, I think. And I feel a fight between just Ruby and Cinder is innevitable, since they're basically Salem/Ozma(or Ozpin or Oscar if you prefer) levels of nemesis in the show. Of course, that will be late in the show. Making any one of the main four a maiden too early would kind of wreak the pacing.
@@fdimension Ehh. Personally, the only one I can possibly see getting the Powers is Yang. They would complement her existing Semblance and style without making her OP, thematically works as Raven giving a gift to her daughter, and would give Yang a sense of purpose (which is something she said she lacked back in V2). Anyone else in the team either doesn't make sense (Blake), or would be too OP with the Powers (Weiss and Ruby).
Volume 8 lasted only two days I believe so it was not 48+ hours and did you see the fight between neo and jaune Nora Ren and Oscar she was easily beating them and none of the characters have gotten better since that fight so neo would have beaten ruby easily
I never thought of the Atlas Atlantis thing till someone mentioned it last week lol, also hands to CRWBY for doing this at home, must be hard when they cant be in the same room with each other doing animation but i think they did amazing xx
Theory is that the beacon relic is where team RWBY +2 are at. If you remember a few chapters back ozpin mentioned the fairytale The Girl Who Fell Through The World.
@@fullmetal_3961 If it was also for Vine, I have to wonder why there wasn't a warning for Hazel. Dude set himself on fire before the explosion happened.
Or maybe tied to his beliefs in luck/misfortune? Clover helped him see that luck/him being lucky was possible so he was able to be lucky here, whereas before he was fully on the “I only bring bad luck” thing for his whole life? Regardless and kinda with what you said, what if his semblance is actually about probability, so he could always “rig” his chances? He just only knew how to rig them against himself. (although i guess you could argue that he actually just brought “bad” luck on Harriet who kinda wanted it to fall, but idk... a lot of fun theories and thoughts with him! 🤗)
In the end, the Tin Man lost his heart and eventually turned Atlas into Atlantis. Meanwhile, the team RWBY as well as the silent killer and the hero with a family relic of promise and love fell through the world into an unknown land that references Destiny Islands, Alice in Wonderland and Yggsadril
@@morlock2012 Ah nicely stated. Atlas had to face Salem alone, and his might alone couldn't keep him standing as the rest of remnant stood aloof and didn't come to aid.
About Vacuo, we know that it is a desert, filled with assassins and people that don't give a fuck (most of the time) about the other nations. It is also were some of the teams we saw previouslly in volume 1-3 are, like team SNNN and team CFVY (there are comics that show what happens to team CFVY, they are pretty good).
Something that I noticed about this episode: Cinder is learning to be a lot like Salem with her lying and manipulating to get what she wants. She’s still not as strong as Salem, but she now knows that as long as she dangles what what Salem wants in front of her, she can get away with anything with her.
Honestly i think she's simply back to form, she's a lot more like she was in V1-3, after getting bested by Ruby she became very narrow minded and just wanted to brute force her way through every situation, where as before she felt untouchable. Definitely Salem like, but she already sort of was like that.
Aw, I was hoping for you guys to realize that the end credits was a Penny Song! Yanno, considering that anything physical is left to fall into the abyss once the realm disappears, that basically means alongside team RWBY, Neo and Jaune, that also means Penny's body would fall too. Oof. Whoever finds her is gonna be utterly heartbroken and devastated (Neo being the exception of course) Also Penny didn't mean she'll literally be with Winter, in the Maiden Powers, ala, One For All, Avatar etc. It's a callback to Winter's words in the season 7 finale when Fria died and Penny inherited the powers. It's symbolic and sentimental.
I was looking for this. Yes, Penny's corpse is going to be there somewhere. And the girls may find it. Also, some other folks did also fall so, we'll see what happens.
I think its partially true, definitely a callback to that but also if you remember how Ozpin reincarnation works, previous lives do become part of him, and given he was the one who made the maidens and his powers i think it's possible that so do they to an extent.
I love your reactions and reviews guys. I discovered you with RWBY and it's always a pleasure to see you react to the new incredible volumes. And gosh ! What a volume it was! I like how you spend time to discuss and analyze each episode. I also watched some of your other animes reactions and I particularly appreciate the diversity of animes you watch. If you see this commentary, I'd like to tell you that I'd love to see your reactions to a relatively unknown anime : "Senki Zesshou Symphogear". It has 5 seasons and even if the animation of the first season seems cheap, it becomes better and bette. And also the musics of this anime are just incredible. Anyway, keep it up 👍 !
"He was burned alive inside that building?" Eh, he probably would have died of smoke inhalation first. It didn't look like the fire had gotten inside his room yet, just the surrounding area.
So I was trying to come up with a team name for the remaining people we have left in Vacuo. If you leave out Emerald and just put Winter, Oscar, Ren, and Nora together, you have WORN. Oof doesn't that say it all?
Y'all remember when Cinder said "You deserve this" to Watts, well she wasn't kidding. I want a training montage for the next volume! Ruby still needs to learn how to fight without her weapon, Jaune needs to get stronger (cuz my boy about to have more trauma), Weiss can work on her summoning, idk about Yang and Blake but hey maybe Neo will be joining the team. I hope that Qrow doesn't go back to drinking since he thinks that both his nieces are dead and well Taiyang might try to kill him before he even starts drinking. I can't wait to see Sun again though!
-Chapter 14: The Final Word After Volume 3, one would think that you’d be prepared for anything that happens, and for the most part, that was true. There were few scenes in the continuing volumes that start to crack my shell, but I was able to tolerate it and think, ‘I can deal with this.’ And then this chapter happened… RWBY quote of the chapter _“And that’s checkmate.” (Cinder)_ -Winter vs Ironwood It is interesting to hear how when Winter was talking to Ironwood, she spoke mainly about how Mantle was affected in this exchange. She had already declared in the previous chapter that she will always stand up against the people of Atlas and with her words here, she fights for them as one and the same. And her other line bring up much how some villains behave (like _Thanos),_ that they will sacrifice anyone and anything to reach their goal, _except themselves._ A true hero are the ones who would put their lives _first_ for the sake of others. It would seem that Ironwood’s true enemy wasn’t just the Grimm, Salem or his fear. It was his ego. -Belatedly Friendship Did Clover’s medal helped Qrow’s semblance? From the looks of it, it seems as though with it, he was able to use it to reverse his own semblance through concentration. Does this mean he can actually control his semblance now? And can he be able to use it back and forth now? That would be a plus. The Ace-Ops finally showing their true feelings to each other, with Elm convincing Harriet to step down from her actions, only too late that the bomb was armed (partially thanks to Watts), and then for Vine to follow suit, sacrificing himself to save his friends (like _Spock_ in the _Star Trek II)._ -Triumph of the Fall Usurper You know when things were going into _Infinity War_ level of foreboding when everyone is losing their weapons (although it is cool to see Weiss wielding both Myrtenaster _and_ Gambol Shroud), especially Crescent Rose and Crocea Mors (damaged). Congratulations Cinder, for reestablishing the #1 spot as the most hated person in RWBY. With the knowledge she had obtained from Jinn and with aid from Neo and Watts, she managed to obtain both the Relics, mortally wound Penny, and send all of team RWBY into the void. And to cover her tracks, she disposed of both Neo and Watts once she was done with them. She managed to get almost everything she wanted. The only thing she didn’t get was the Winter Maiden’s power. Even still, she pretty much ended the lives of the main protagonists. Or at least, that’s what she thinks… -Sacrifice of the Winter Maiden …I need a moment… (keeping it together…) It was really a worry that Penny becoming human would make her vulnerable to injury and Cinder made it a reality, capitalizing on that weakness with the same attack she used on Vernal. Not only that, but realizing that she wouldn’t make it, she had Jaune to help kill herself in order to pass the power on to Winter. Whether Jaune carried out the act himself or Penny simply took his sword to do it herself, Jaune will become really messed up when this is over. Sadly enough, Penny’s words to him mirror the same ones that Pyrrha said to him before they died (and both by Cinder’s hands). _“There’s not enough time.” (Penny)_ _“There’s no time.” (Pyrrha)_ On a lighter (yet somber) note, Penny chose to use her final moments of life to help someone else rather than being unknowingly used as a pawn in her first death. What was really heartwarming/heart-striking was their conversation, which goes back to two of their earlier conversations in the previous volume, which for many, showed that Penny, a robotic girl, acted more human than Winter, a woman who acted like a machine. But Penny never really believed that and Ren saw it himself when seeing her emotions through his semblance how conflicted she was, that she was holding in more emotions inside. So Penny’s last words, as well as the fact that Winter was the one chosen to be in Penny’s last memory, telling Winter that she was her friend, was something that will likely let Winter be free from her previous persona, as Penny entrusted her with the Maiden powers, and in some way, trusting her also to be the next protector of Mantle, as that was her previous title. And with Ironwood’s decline, she would become the de-facto leader of Atlas. _“Do you believe in destiny?” (Pyrrha)_ It also shows that she is free from the destiny that Ironwood envisioned in her (although she had already repurposed it in the earlier volume as her own). What became her destiny given to her by Ironwood became a gift given to her from Penny. Because when Penny became the Winter Maiden, Winter probably believed that her destiny was gone. But it was Penny would fulfilled it for her as a gift, thus no longer bonding her to Ironwood’s idea So Weiss isn’t Elsa; Winter is… With Weiss’ fall, Cinder has two Maidens she has to contend with that. Now only that, but Winter was already formidable on her own right. As strong as Penny was, Winter is more a battle-hardened Huntress/soldier. Her with Maiden powers will be something Cinder will have problems with. Add to that, Winter vowed to make sure Cinder pays for what she done, and she has to power to do it. One thing is for sure though… The Grimm facing her now at Vacuo are about to be wrecked… -The Fall of Atlas/Mantle I was a bit confused at first about when did Cinder use the staff to trap Watts into a fire, but then I remembered that in using the Relic, time is frozen and Cinder wouldn’t need too much of a plan to for Ambrosius to work with in order to get what she wanted. It is likely that Salem knows that Cinder is lying about many of her actions, but she doesn’t care since she has two of the Relics now and Atlas has been destroyed. And Salem was deceiving Cinder as well, bringing up her line of creating a ‘new world order’. To bring it up to Cinder means that Cinder doesn’t really know what Salem’s real endgame is. Rule of Two… This also shows Ironwood’s complete defeat, that he had no power to do anything now. And the way Salem and Cinder were walking away from him confirmed that. As far as they are concerned, Ironwood is beneath their notice now, and he knows that. In a small way, this is a bit of revenge for Cinder as well, destroying the world that he had suffered under as a youth. To summarize, Atlas/Mantle is gone and underwater, Qrow, Robyn, and the rest of the Ace-Ops are left to see it (with Qrow unable to contact what had happened to Ruby or the others), the survivors of Atlas/Mantle are now at Vacuo with Winter as the Winter Maiden, Penny is dead (likely Ironwood and Watts as well), and team RWBY, Jaune and Neo have disappeared into the void -End-credit Thoughts/Theory So they are all potentially still alive. After all, the RWBY standard is typically, no body, no death. Now comes the question; where are they? Wonderland? Yggdrasil (The World Tree)? The afterlife? There are thoughts to mull about. If it turns out that they are in some sort of afterlife, that will definitely be a thing. Would they encounter anyone? Will Neo encounter Torchwick? Will Weiss see her grandfather? Will Blake have to confront Adam? Will Ruby and Yang see Summer (which would confirm her death)? Will Jaune see Pyrrha? How will they be able to get out of there? When that happens, will time have changed? Thus ends Volume 8… A session of RWBY Chibi is definitely in order…
Possibilities for Volume 9 - Neo redemption arc - Roman was killed by grimm, which attacked because of Cinder's plan. Now that Cinder has directly betrayed Neo, I can't imagine her not siding with the good guys eventually. We'll probably still have one more fight between her and RWBY, though, if only because Yang and Blake in particular are gonna be super pissed with her. Jaune finally forging his own weapon - All this time, he's been using an ancient hand-me-down when everyone else has awesome multifunction weapons. His sword breaking can have multiple thematic interpretations, but I like to think of it as a sign that he's outgrown it and needs something that can keep up with his current prowess. Raven - I don't necessarily thing she'll decide to help out any time soon, but she might be how the good guys realize Yang (and everyone else who fell) isn't dead, thanks to her connection. I'll be disappointed if she can actually reach Yang, though, as that would make things too easy.
if anything, a temporary alliance with team RWBY and Jaune that'll end up ending with her back stabing them and possibly giving Ruby her injury, since everyone else on team RWBY has had some form of injury except Ruby
I feel like no one I've seen has talked about this, so I want to mention it: Team RWBY, Neo, and Jaune aren't the only ones that fell into the void. There were a bunch of civilians who fell in, too. As well as PENNY'S DEAD BODY, which would have fallen just before Jaune did. Penny's body will be, and may have to be left in, whatever weird dimension they ended up in.
Penny: "There's not enough time to heal me." Me: *"Shut up! You don't know that!"* Having had time to think about it, I really, really should have seen Penny's death coming. 1. Penny has been trying to die for her friends since the beginning of the volume. The first thing we hear her say is, (paraphrasing) "Or I can bring Salem the relic and the power. Then maybe she'll leave us alone." She's been putting herself between her enemies and her friends in every fight (instead of fighting _with_ her friends like she did in Volume 7) and generally had a "it's fine if this kills me" attitude since she became a maiden. 2. "Kill the maiden for the cause" has been the standard operating procedure since Volume 3. They tried to kill Amber to give the power to Pyrrha but Cinder beat them to it. Raven apparently killed the previous Spring maiden because she wasn't strong enough. They tried to kill Fria to give the power to Winter, but she died of natural causes first. The show's been threatening to have a protagonist kill an innocent person for the greater good for some time now.
i mean, you saw how long it took for Jaune to heal Weiss, not to mention his aura was low already from not much rest on top of it breaking from helping Ren mask them and others, along Salem's attack from their fight and also boosting Penny's aura a few times to help her fight the virus
@@GraveDigger35 I should have made it clearer that the first two lines were just about my original reaction and wasn't meant as serious criticism. (I mean, technically Penny didn't know how much time it would take but that's not really the point.)
About the strange world that we see in the end credit, I leave you with this ; In the episode "WITCH", Oscar and Ozpin discuss the fairy tale . From what was revealed in the episode, the story is of a girl who fell through Remnant and found herself in a brand new world. But upon her return to Remnant, she was saddened. It is commented by Ozpin that she "wasn't the same girl anymore", implying the journey changed her. And the day team RWBY & JN return Cinder will be in bad situation with Salem for lying to her. x'D And for the fun of it... Cinder ; Finally got rid of those pests. RWBYJN ; Surprise bitch !
With all y'all's talk about D&D, I'd love to see a streamed/recorded campaign from you guys. You could maybe even get other reactors in the RWBY community like Arnold or Arryn
That's one possibility. Another one is Garden of Eden and the tree is either the Tree of Life or Tree of Knowledge. They may not necessarily be mutually exclusive, either. My standing speculation is that the mystery location is an afterlife of sorts and will take elements of various stories such as "Journey to the Center of the Earth", "Alice in Wonderland", etc. as well as incorporating various religious mythologies involving a divine Tree, including Norse, Christian, etc. And they will end up encountering specters of dead characters while trying to find a way back to the world of the living and dealing with the temptation of remaining in a seeming paradise world devoid of Grimm.
@@omargoodman2999 i didnt think about Wonderland or the Center of the Earth but thats interesting considering Oscar mentioned a fairytale about "a girl who fell through Remnant"
This might be a strange thing to want, but I want to see Ruby, Blake, and Neo have to use each other's weapons until they can get their own weapons back. We already got a sneak peek of a character using someone else's weapon in Weiss using Blake's sword. She was able to wield it pretty well, using it in both its gun mode and its sword mode. So why can't the others?
i think they explained why that wouldn't work funny enough in a chibi episode with Jaune trying out the other's weapons, Crescent Rose: To heavy for him Ember Celica: To much knockback Gambol Shroud: makes a "now this is a katana" joke and then just throws it at the wall for some reason Myrtenaster: Likes it a little to well lol, and wouldn't be able to use it how Weiss does
@@GraveDigger35 I think that was just for the sake of comedy. Weiss was able to use Gambol Shroud against Cinder pretty well, and she was able to hold out for quite some time. I think it is at least possible, but I don't know how likely it would be.
Cinder couldn't have known what the password to the staff was without asking Jinn, hence why Salem tricked her into admitting she used it. She knows Cinder is lying, but she got what she wanted and she's waiting until it will be most effective to use it. It's what I like about her, she never gives into pride or typical villain tropes like "oh you failed me/disobeyed me/lied to me and now you have to die". She'll do what keeps her minions competent, and right now that's rewarding them.
Unfortunately for this theory, unlike the lamp, the staff doesn't need a password. I think the main reason Salem wanted to ask Jinn a question was to find out what did Ozpin do to hide the relic of beacon.
I could be wrong but just rewatching your reaction and I think it's really nice that Penny looks at Weiss right after that fire separation blast knowing weiss has no aura. X
I think Penny knew how to use her powers but because she was a robot she depended more on that then the actual powers themselves :). I dont think Cinder did anything wrong plan wise in these last few episodes she played everyone in the end, and by getting rid of Neo and Watts benefited her, if she had let Watts live he could have told Salem that she used the lamp etc etc so thats why she most likey killed him, not because of what he said to her a few episodes ago and she used Neo until the very end, she found the usefulness in others, she was tactical even if she didnt get the powers she got 2 relics. Xxx
Ruby and friends... And Neo, and about a dozen or so civilians have landed in Remnant's version of Madagascar. Ruby: We're here... But where is here? Yang: ... San Diego *In the Afterlife* Pyrrha: Its time to go, Penny. Penny: Okay. Was I a good Huntress? Pyrrha: *No. I'm told you were the best.*

But I'm leaving this message, as well as others, in the hopes that you'll understand why I have to go this time...hehe, it was actually Doyle who made me realize something that I've never thought of before. There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. Cut back to Epsilon. He stares at his team, all of them ready for battle. Epsilon: But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. The sound of shattering glass is heard as Epsilon fragments himself. Epsilon: (voice only) Ain't that a bitch.
We don't know what happens to things that get eaten by the grimm so what if whoever they eat gets sent to this new place. Meaning this is where Roman Torchwick could have been all this time "surviving" but with no way out. And since Neo was sent hear they cant meet up and she can hand him his hat back in a tearful scene. Then Neo wont be mad at ruby and theyll all work together to find a way back.
the elitism to not watch something because "I don't watch bad writing" is very closed minded. They did this with MHA a little bit, they didn't finish GOT (that one i get, but also commit) and then they still haven't watched the 9th volume of this when it was actually alright. Don't follow elitist story writers people cause they're not as good as they make themselves out to be.
Man. This volume was really on it's horror movie beat, wasn't it. The Hound, Watts being killed the way he was with it presented the way it was, etcetera.
Fun thing for people to think about. So is it just alive or dead things that fall into the void and transport to this place. The weapons went through from the end we know, people fall. So do dead bodies fall.. All the people shot of the edge by cinder when she did her little entrance, as well as penny... I want to know if her body will be on the island with them, and who would be the first one to find it. Most likely jaune if we go by when they fall, he was the closest to fall with her body. Yang is probably on her own, Ruby and Blake are probably together asfhe fell together, neon and weiss fell alone, penny's body would have fallen when the platform fell, and jaune fell when it all vanished. BUT That is just food for thought, because its just an idea that I've had (and so have others)
Oh, here's a thought. If Ambrosius can extract the robot parts from Penny, can he separate the Grimm from Salem? Doesn't fix her ability to use Magic or her immortality, but it just dealing with the whole 'being of infinite destruction' thing would be good.
I feel like the other world will be akin to the perfect world in the film "Coraline," at first it's perfect so you hesitate to leave but it slowly turns dark.
Watts and Ironwood may still be alive, atlas got flooded, meanign the flames probably got put out... Not saying they are, but "no body, no death". Jaune gets a major deathflag here... He is based on Joan of Arc, who was betrayed shortly after her sword broke, handed over to the British, tried by Cardinal Winchester and burned at the stake. Every chapter this volune has had a one word title except this one which is still descriptive of one word... The final one. And in this it was "checkmate", unless you count the unvocalized "Ruby, Yang" by Qrow. Another grim note, that will probably not happen... technically Penny's body will fall into the void and there are a bunch of civies that fell also.
@@pollertry4003 True enough, though the ones near the edge were probably just thrown off. You think they just woke up on the beach, or fell though the sky?
Since Ruby's weapon was on the beach, it shows that objects fall through the void to the location as well. Which means Jaune doesn't need to tell team RWBY that Penny died. They'll find her body.
Nice reactions guys! As this wound up I really loved the Penny and Jaune scene. It's very heartbreaking. I had a feeling that she would die again but it was well done, and now I worry how her father will deal with losing her. :( I wonder if the people that were blown off the pathway and subsequently lost to the void also made it to this place with the tree that looks kind of like the World Tree Yggdrasil? I mean, if team RWBY is there, so should the many people that fell. Either way, really enjoyed your reactions. I kind of saved the last few to watch them altogether lol.
Yes! I'm going to be slightly annoyed if in the next volume they don't address the fact that there are supposed to be random citizens in Wonderland too. And I will be surprised if they actually do, because I'm really expecting them to overlook that detail.
Explosion plus fall damage. Crescent Rose was buried pretty deep. Although having said that, the fall damage could be a problem for our girls (and boy) too. None of them had any aura left when they fell.
A few tidbits of information (and opinion) to talk about, and spoiler warning if you haven't watched the finale and any leaks from RT: - Atlas is an Allegory for Atlantis, as Ironwood is essentially the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. You're just missing "tin" from Atlantis to make Atlas. And with it being underwater, it is now just like the mythos- a civilization with highly advanced technology now living underwater. Abandoned (because all of Mystral and Atlas was evacuated), but living. - There's a V9 sneak peek that reveals that Ruby and Neo are at least alive, so it's proven that no one is really dead if they can survive that fall. If Ruby can survive it, then surely Yang, Blake, and Weiss can all survive it. Jaune might have a bit of trouble, since if you remember Volume 1 in Landing Training he had to be pinned to a tree by Pyrrah in order to land safely... - Speaking of Jaune, his entire family lineage is supposedly the Joan of Arc circlet. And since his weapon was a family heirloom, it's safe to say that this could have been the blade of legend from that era, and spilling innocent blood made it weaker. He did it out of pity and Penny's last wishes, as a mercy kill, but Penny was still innocent in the eyes of the blade's logic, and therefore it still applies. - Neo swapping sides is definitely a possibility, but with all that pent up rage being directed towards Ruby, she might have to be beaten into submission in order to at least hear out Ruby's side of the story, which might not happen since her mirror semblance can basically let her teleport wherever she wants within a certain vicinity. We see as much whenever she uses it in the show. - Emerald swapped sides because she saw first hand what Salem's world would be like, and didn't want any part of it; regardless of the fact that Cinder saved her from living off the streets and how both she and Cinder metaphorically adopted Mercury. This is more of a blow to Cinder than to Salem, and it hurts more than Cinder possibly lets on, because Cinder became a sort of mother figure for Emerald- and seeing her abandon her like everyone else did in her backstory brings back a bunch of pain that can cloud judgement and action alike. - Salem being basically invincible by conventional means (even Oz himself couldn't keep her down forever, as the finale shows with the beginning when Salem is reforming), means that there's no current conceivable way to remove her from the world. As far as I can see it, the only way to take her out completely is to use Ambrosius to create a one way gate to an unknown realm (as an example's sake let's say Remnant's version of Pluto), and then have a while to kill off the remaining Grimm (and cover up the pools at the God of Darkness' old home, ie Salem's Castle) so that Salem basically has no army upon her inevitable return. This in turn would kill off Tyrian, and since Hazel has effectively swapped sides already in this volume (as seen when he attacks Salem after learning the truth), he's out of the question. - Salem's current henchmen at the end of V8 are as follows: Cinder, Neo, Tyrian. Neo is questionable as stated above, but Cinder was adopted by Salem, so unless she sees that she's on the wrong side, she'll have to die in order to get her to stop. Tyrian will also probably have to die, because he's just crazy and doesn't care about the world; only what Salem wants out of him. He sees purpose in her, and only in her can the world be right again. - Then there's all the Grimm, including the homunculi grimm that appeared in Shnee Manor. - And then there's finding out what happened to Summer Rose (if she isn't one of the homunculi grimm already... And that's kinda dark. There's only a grave; we don't have a body at the moment from what we know, so it's possible!). - Salem's defeat is probably only possible if "The Good Guys" (in quotes because it's not just Team RWBY and their friends & family anymore) can obtain ALL the relics (of which we only know of 2 of them, and they're in Salem's hands!), and summon the Gods in order to remove Salem entirely from the world. Seeing Salem gone meaning that peace can now be achieved, their goal of returning once the people of Remnant have learned to live with and cooperate with one another is achieved, and they'll come back to live with them. it seems simple enough, but it's a hard task to steal TWO relics and find the other two when one's buried in what is essentially a giant pile of rubble.
i know its been about a year since this reaction, but im just now seeing it and wanted to comment. I think the end has a connection to the story Ozpin tells them about the girl who fell to anothr world and had to overcome her problems, she was unable to and spread it to everyone else... this could either be jaune having to work his way through killing penny or neo working her way through getting over torchwick and forgiving ruby, maybe turning to their side on the journey.
So... Penny's body was still in the "between space" when it dissolved...meaning her body fell into whatever nether realm that rwby jaune and neo are in as well. They could do some angry stuff with that
I'd hope the next volume is like vol4 but with RWBY together this time, a lot happened this volume i think we need a slow one to settle some things and let the characters sort out the crap storm that went down. Everyone who fell could use a breather... -Weiss just lost the home and company she once had for good, saw all her teammates die one by one and Penny. -Blake and Yang both have had to be the emotional support the past volumes. -Ruby tried so hard to save everyone but the weight of the world was too much, that pain has always been there since Summer but it's all taking a toll on her now -Jaune well... had to end the life of a friend himself, that alone is a handful on top of the rest. -And then throw Neo's life being consumed by revenge. Also, i know he brought it upon himself but i can't help but to feel for Ironwood a bit... he did genuinely want to stop Salem, and he did sacrifice everything to do so... but he failed in the end and he realizes this in the last moments, that defeated and sad expression says it all "theres nothing i can do, i lost it all, i failed the world... ", he's so pathetic Salem and Cinder don't even bother to acknowledge his presence cause he has nothing anymore... It's pretty tragic, specially when you see what it coulda been when compared to Ren and the different paths each took. I'm really curious for where Vol 9 is going, this and 7 were solid volumes and what happened in them was very needed for the show in general i'd say, and i feel whatever might be in 9 could potentially be pretty big for the show aswell, like one of those major beats the story needs to hit.
@@khalduras784 That'd be stupid right when the one thing they've been banging on wanting to happen for years happens. It's important to note that Blind Wave only recently got time in the schedule for Volume 9.
It's easy, they just went to the Spirit World grab some tea with Iroh. They will then have a training arc in a land that will reveal to them a powerful secret, and they will come back just as shit goes down in an Avengers Endgame final battle sequence for Vacuo. They win that battle and it's the first real pushback against Salem directly that the heroes have and then we'll see what happens.
A lot going on, buuuut so far, Winter's the only Maiden we've seen who actually specialises in summoning. I wonder if she can somehow boost her summons?
I'm a little bit of a sadistic person... IF I was doing a story like this & I want others to believe in a/multiple characters' deaths even if I'm planning on bringing them back, I would have the ed/op songs evolve to have them not show up anymore (not necessarily changing the lyrics, just the images), another symbol of death for the character(s) in my series to convey to the audience that "they're not coming back, they're dead"... or in the case of disintegration, I would show them disintegrating again in the ed & next op... & check out everyone's reactions when they miraculously come back. Now, I wouldn't pull this all that often at all, I would just make them first believe that I'm serious about doing it, as life is random & cruel to us all sometimes, not being entirely predictable... & then pull this shit close to the end of the series, it would cause such a ruckus. The reactions throughout the whole thing would be absolutely hilarious, & I would enjoy every second of it. Again, sadistic person. In all seriousness it did hurt a bit though with Penny this episode, Jaune needs some counseling for that ptsd... Jaune: "I have been emotionally stable for these last 2 Volumes." Directors: "Wait, that's illegal. Give me one second..."
Sucks that they didn’t understand suspension of disbelief in this fight, I thought they knew exactly what they were doing when they threw crescent rose, knowing that they couldn’t kill another person without killing the stakes, but then they go ahead and instantly ruin it
in my opinion ozma did not found the only recommended academies. 2 ozbut he didn't want to hurt his wife he just wanted to protect his daughters. 3 I believe that salem will be there again ozma for him has shown possessiveness, pity and anger. 4 Even though he now owns two relics he cannot use them first I will lose them later.
Yang may have survived the fall, but she did kinda take a pretty good hit to the head last episode. Her, Weiss, Ruby and Jaune also fell without their auras.
and Weiss might be the most hurt out of all of them since she took the most hits with out her Aura, as for Ruby, we never really saw Blake's aura break, so she might summon a shadow clone for Ruby to land on with her landing on her feet because cat
