That 'young merchant' is somehow waaaay less sketchy in this dub. In Japanese it's like he's wearing a big flashing sign that says "I am a swindler, do not trust me". XD

I really like that. In the light novels, the Zheren wasn't supposed to be sketchy at all. He was supposed to be a charming newbie. His missing teeth was supposed to be a charm point, showing his childish innocence, but in the sub it just made him seem like an even more suspicious guy.

The back and forth banter is so good as is the dialogue in general. Holo is the gluttonous wolf

15:30 I think you're forgetting one key factor: the guys who said this were the scammer and Lawrence. They were buttering one another up, as well as humble-bragging. They're empty words for sure-simple platitudes-but platitudes with purpose!

So glad to be going on this adventure with you guys! Yu Yu Hakusho was the anime that got me into anime. Seeing you guys cover it was sublime! Watching your Monster reactions actually interested me in the sub whereas I was only interested in the dub before. As for Spice and Wolf, having done the one from more than a decade ago in the dub only, and now going through this remake by watching both the sub and the dub, I can honestly say I'm enjoying that you guys are enjoying the dub. I personally love it too! Also, if Hakusho, which I still love, was the anime that got me into anime, then Spice and Wolf was the light novel that got me into light novels. Not that I've read as many light novels as I have seen anime - not even close. But, I read up through the original 17 volumes of Spice and Wolf, along with the first couple of Spring Log volumes and the first few Wolf & Parchment. I can only hope the show will be in for doing a long-haul adaption. Looks like they've already confirmed a run of at least 25 episodes! Anyway, sorry for the rambling message. I look forward to popping in and seeing how the progress goes. Also, I don't want to say to much about the differences between the light novels and the first run of the anime, but back in episode 1, we got to see one of the anime exclusive character's from the first run of the show clearly referenced as a background character in this adaptation. That's just a fun bit of trivia I can offer in exchange for rambling so much!

Idk I kinda find that the Japanese version of the remake has the opposite problem of the English version, i.e. too high-pitched and cutesy, and not really in a good way. Like, she kinda sounds like an older woman trying to do an impression of a younger girl, and overdoing it, rather than an actual voice that I would expect to hear from a teenage-ish body. English version completely leans into the older-sounding voice, which of course is also a problem, but to me, that just means both versions have issues. That's not to say I dislike either necessarily, I just think that if I'm going to nitpick about one, then I have to nitpick about the other.

I know for a fact yall are missing dialogue because you're talking so much and there's no subtitles on screen. The talking I don't mind but COME ON add subtitles to the dub at the least 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Hahaha..same for me.. 😂 Not that it's bad. It's just that it feels weird for me if an anime is in English. Tbf, I'd watch Solo Leveling in Korean of they had it.

My only real issue so far is the music. Terrible opening and ending themes that do not fit the tone of the show at all, unremarkable soundtrack so far, I remember there being a couple of really good medieval themes in the original one, but jury is still out on that one. I can't deal with the excessive J-Pop themes for what is supposed to be a chill, medieval setting. Something along the lines of Mushishi opening/ending would be more fitting.
