Damn. I mean, we knew Hiei was a badass, but this is a whole other level. Third Saint Beast down, but now Keiko's in danger!! If you want to see our reaction to the next episode RIGHT NOW, go check out our Patreon and get on early access: www.patreon.com/semblanceofsanity
Yo, I literally forget you make these episodes... it’s a nice treat but I absolutely hate it especially sense this is an older show with multiple seasons... please do this More often?

You ain't see nothing yet! Prepare yourself for more Hiei awesomeness!
Fun fact, in the manga Seiryu is a total chump. The fight with Hiei, if one could even call it that, doesn’t even last more than a page! Hiei cuts him to ribbons near-instantly!
Hiei and Yusuke always struck me as having a similar temperament, and the fact that Yusuke was essentially the first person to trust Hiei cemented his respect if not his trust.
Yeah exactly, the frozen head probably freaked him out which is why he covered it up. And then made it seem it was an emotion based thing of sympathy/getting to like the group, because he found that less embarrassing than if they knew about the ice. Can't wait for them to watch Hiei's back story; wonder if they'll remember this fight when they get there. Won't be for another year and a half though if they keep up the once a week pace.
It's not Byakko's death, it's how it happened. Hiei is a dick, but he's an honorable dick. Betrayal rubs him as wrongly as it does Kuwabara. The fact that Seiryu backstabbed a teammate offended him. The fact that he was an ice user was just a bonus
You also have to remember these beast were in their castle for a very long time. Long enough that a city was built around it. So it is safe to say they got weaker over time.
they had to lower their power i believe to set up shop...and it makes sense people would follow them considering they basically set up a refugee camp for demons who want to cross the human border wall..ironic isn't it
Ahhh, I love this episode so much! No spoilers, but this is one fight you'll want to remember as Hiei's story unfolds :) There's definitely a reason he was so suited to this match-up, and so eager to fight it.
The 4 beasts are pretty common in Asian mythology and have been referenced in countless anime. Genbu (Turtle), Byakko(Tiger), Seiryu (Dragon) and Suzaku (Phoenix). One of the most famous shows that used this theme was Beyblade.
Yeah Hiei usually doesn’t fight people. They just live for about a minute or two and then he just deletes them from existence. He gets a few worthy opponents but those are rare. I remember when I was really young when it was airing on Toonami and I saw the preview of this episode I was so excited to see him fight Seiryu. Imagine my shock when the second strongest Saint Beast became ice cubes within 2 minutes. Moments like these made Hiei possibly my favorite character, and that was his “worst” fight. Also that was quite interesting how the ice seemed to have no effect on him. I wonder if there’s something going on with that... While the fight wasn’t long it was a great display of Hiei’s reworked personality. He may come off condescending, but he’s quite the honorable hero. I think the Saint beasts as a whole are a perfect opposite from Yusuke’s team. The Saint Beasts have the home field advantage and have known each other for hundreds of years. Despite that they hate each other and are getting picked off one at a time. Yusuke and company have only just now became a team and have to learn to work together. Their growing trust in each other’s abilities is what is giving them the advantage. Whether I love the joke with the big and scary thing behind the door was just a mouse, and that of all things scared Kuwabara. Speaking of which, since Byakko survived his fight I just now realized that Kuwbara’s body count is quite small compared to the others. He only ever kills weak generics. Anyone even remotely important to the plot always survives. Only the leader remains and Yusuke has to beat him before Kieko gets it. He has a warped sense of humor and I’m sure he’ll be a problem to take out.
Hiei holds the same spot in my head as someone like Shikamaru. He might not be the strongest character on the show/manga, but EVERY SINGLE TIME he shows up he is guaranteed to do something cool/hype.
Nah fam don't do that to Heie. Shikamaru exterminated bugs for $9 an hour. We talkin' about Heie. Ya'll too young to remember what he meant in the 90's. That's the OG edgetard. Heie is a progenitor of a whole trope.
@@X3MAntics That is an entirely different topic than what I was talking about. I realize Hiei the undisputed edgelord king. Everyone of his attack names sound like something off of black metal album. I'm simply talking about their "cool" factor. Off the top of my head, Spike Spiegel, Mugen from Samurai Champloo, Kenpachi from Bleach, Vegeta, Shikamaru, Domon from G Gundam, and Hiei, are all undeniably cool.
@@isaiascanete6651 I like the arc in general, but I agree, his fight is weak, his power is nonsense and yusuke doesn'teven grows as a character. But yeah, after that thngs got real.
So... there's more than one reason the ice didn't work on Hiei and it's not "well he's just THAT badass". At this point in the show, we don't actually know what kind of demon he is. But also personality-wise, Hiei is the Lancer of the classic 5-man-band. So in many ways he is meant to be a foil for Yusuke. So there are some very strong similarities between the two but also key differences. Hiei's character arc is one of the most dynamic in the show, I'm excited to see what you guys make of it!
@@razkable didn’t he get these many eyes because of the Jagan? I thought that was one of the Jagans powers. I always thought he is a firedemon (that’s why he managed to control that crazy black dragon at all) with ice resistance thanks to his Koorime background
@@AwesomeDemomanGaming I know. I watch those. But when it comes to anime reaction videos, they usually don't play with the voices during every single intro.
(Mild)Spoiler alert :- Ice doesnt work on hiei because he’s a fire demon. This scene is a massive foreshadowing about his past. Which eventually you’ll get to know.
@@user-pe2xj5dr9r not hybrid I believe , fire demon born to an ice maiden. I specifically remember an image where the child hiei is completely engulfed in fire.
@@GauravKumar-vu9td yeah I believe the key is that ice maidens typically produce asexually, which makes them all have girls. If they have a child with a male then if the child is male it’ll be a fire demon.
For those of you who watch this in the future and don’t follow the bros’ content all that regularly: the dragon joke near the start was a reference regarding Jacob’s Dark Souls stream
I've been waiting for this fight; needed you to see the awesomeness of Hiei's fighting ability. Him and Kuwabara are my favourites, and some of my favourite anime characters of all time. The Kuwabara love you've been showing has really made my week when a new episode is out.
It was so awesome to see Hiei’s first fight and the beginning indications that he actually views Yusuke as an ally. But god dammit, can we please stop threatening Keiko? Anyway, another great reaction, you’re gonna love these next couple. It’s only going to get more exciting from here.
Great reaction, guys. I won't spoil his backstory but a fun fact is due to the type of demon he is, Hiei has a high immunity to most elemental attacks. Especially fire and ice.
Appreciate the reactions and analysis. May I suggest other great animes as well, like Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain. Equally legendary storylines and animes with great fights and settings.
Yeah, I love how the manga handled the Hiei fight. It was over in 1 page. The dude never even had a chance to get an attack off he got blitzed so fast.
I really wished they would have spend a few seconds wondering how Hiei was able to withstand the ice as if nothing happened. Would have been such a cool thing to come back to once you know about his Koorime heritage
Okay so I haven't been watching anime recently but I saw this notification at work and got all excited because the last episode I'd watched of yours was episode 10 and now I have 8 episodes to watch!! Safe to say I'm excited 😄👍🏻
As someone who has been playing an elemental monk for over 5 years, I take offense to saying they suck. Granted I don't focus on DPS with the way I play him, so there may be some merit to the comparison.
