Brian you are a true fucking visionary. Props to Jonah Scott but you sir, are the true gift "I try to reach for you, but the hook makes it hard" LMFAOOO
This album is absolutely wonderful both from the humor and it actually sounds amazing. I really hope that you continue doing more music things like this because this was spectacular.
Such a supportive crew! No questions asked. "Oh, you need to sing about missing your hand, sure I'll join". Hook is a lucky man, and a good captain to earn such empathy from his crew.

AAAAAAHHHHH!!!! PAAAAAIIIINNNN!!!!!! I broke my hand yesterday because of the hate comments I get all the time. I was so angry that I punched a hole in my computer. Please don't hate me, dear lou
No offence to you in particular but it’s kinda annoying when you say that you “need” a piece of content. I would also appreciate that if that happens though.
@@AnarchoTrivvy I actually feel the same way when I read similar comments and now I wish I'd worded mine differently because I didn't mean to be directing it at Brian. I wasn't demanding, or even asking, for more "content", it was just me saying that, as a lover of both ABBA and sea shanties, I have now heard the potential for how well the two can combine. I don't need "content", I can go sing ABBA songs as sea shanties myself!
This is why BDG left Polygon. He's been playing the long game, and I am so happy he has had the time to do the crazy amazing stuff hes been doing. Keep it up!
@@pflasterstrips7254 he said he didn't want to be limited in his creativity and as employee you always are, even though polygon gave him considerable freedom already. So for a while now, he does whatever he feels like and it has been a wild mix!
I think what makes these funnier for me is that I'm imagining these songs in the context of Mamma Mia Captain Hook but he has 3 Possible Dads and loves them all equally 💖
excuse YOU, in the context of mamma mia this would be sung by captain hook as the child's parent in a duet with......his hand??? presumably????? which is one of the child's three possible fathers?????????
reasons this is the funniest piece of music ever in history ever: - it starts out as a sea shanty with no obvious link to SOS but when you least expect it it transitions - it's been shoehorned into being in 3 - the tempo is totally wrong - the backing vocals start as being sung by a fake crew trying to join in but very rapidly drop all pretenses and turn into backing vocals - the content of the lyrics, if you actually listen to them, is ridiculous when sung like an upbeat sea shanty - hysterically bad pipe solo - hysterically bad pipe solo is interrupted by rowdy crew - it slows down slightly at the end - did I mention our lord and saviour bdg has *put SOS by ABBA in 3*
I think sea shanties being upbeat but actually being depressing and miserable is fairly common. After all they have to be sung at tempo for working, but sailors are miserable
If i had a nickel every time BDG made a song that involved losing his hand, i'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
I've formed this narrative that this is relatively soon after the fight in which he lost his hand. His crew is less sure of what to do, he's clearly very distraught. This is the raw, young Hook we've also wanted to see.
Yeah, this number really feels like it's the crew working through their Dark Night Of The Soul. Hook's the only one crying; everyone else is too busy or too drunk. The captain doesn't want the crew to see him like this. But, dammit. Who else could bridge the gap between master and commanded? Of course it's Smee; nobody else can safely handle the captain when he's emotionally vulnerable. Not only does the song offer simple catharsis, it reaffirms the bonds of the untrustworthy. These blackhearted bastards don't care about Hook or his hand. They don't have to share in his misery, only his determination to go on, in the face of all doubts and a teenager who can fly.
@@russelljohnson7004 And I'll be damned if they didn't follow his every order throughout. They gave him backups. They gave him pipes. They gave him space to grieve. Truly, the tale Disney was too scared to show us.
Captain Hook's inclusion as a "Halloween Villain" is questionable, but this song is good enough that we should all let it slide. Also, MORE HURDY GURDY PLEASE!
i think my favorite part about this is despite the pipe solo being hot garbage, the crew is so supportive. they are completely here for that dude playing his heart out on them pipes.
the amount of acting he put in his singing is totally amazing. With the somewhat piratey pronounciation, weirdly placed accents, captains sloppy singing and the total anguish and pain in his heart and the close but hierarchichal relationship with his crew. Amazing
Definitely my favorite song on the EP. The only thing that could improve it is if it was performed onstage with pirates ballet dancing and doing trapeze stunts in the background to visually represent Hook's anguish.
Props that I can so clearly see The image of Hook starting this song as a proper lament, then getting caught up in the ambience and trying to make an actual performance out of it, and by the end the entire crew is there, rocking back and forth with arms wrapped around each other’s shoulders as they caterwaul.
@@Leighv i mean the hurdy gurdy is a classic pirate instrument and we've seen that bdg has access to a hurdy gurdy but not to an accordion, so its probably a hurdy gurdy
@@bingoccolon idk it doesn’t sound like a hurdy gurdy and accordion sounds can be easily emulated on a keyboard. Plus, Jonah Scott played the background music not Brian.
Ok but this is in a different key signature than the original song - this is in 6/8. I love the mix of absolutely ridiculous and musically clever that this man continually creates.
I thought this was just supposed to be “Captain hook” like just a vague scary Halloween pirate character like vampire instead of Dracula, specifically. But no, he references Peter Pan and tick tock croc. This makes this video so much better in my opinion lmao
You don't know how weird it was to see this notification to pop up on my phone while watching something else only for it to IMMEDIATELY be replaced by the notification for the next song, likely uploaded at basically the same time.
Love the idea that when Hook gets depressed or emotional about losing his hand the crew all come together to sing with him to make him feel better, what a supportive band of pirates!
I think we can all agree this happens in the "Our flag means death" universe, Stede and the crew drunk signing on a boat after Ed dumped them all into the ocean :')
Edit: I found them on Spotify and played them all shift. Thank you for giving me a my weekends work playlist! Is this going to be available on Spotify? I would force all customers to listen on repeat as I work in a pipe shop and we Bluetooth our own selections during shifts. I need as many people to hear these with me as possible.
it's been 8 months since this came out and my favorite line in this song is still the "very good, mr smee" after "that damn tick tock of the clock in the croc that i hear" bc it implies that hook didn't even Write his own song about his hand, he made mr smee write it
I'm watching these back to back and for the first time ever, I'm like "no, RU-vid, I will not click on a non-BDG video after this one, because I don't want to interrupt the vibe being created here and nothing else will be this good"
fun fact: this was the first time I ever heard the song SOS, so this is just the default version to me now, and every time I try to sing the song I end up singing it in 6/8
ACCORDION in an ABBA COVER I am LIVING I am BREATHING this is so good. Edit: It’s a hurdy gurdy I was blinded by my pure excitement of hearing something vaguely accordion like in a song and forgot that Brian in fact owns a hurdy gurdy so it makes a lot more sense that that’s what’s in the song. Plus now on a second listen it sounds like that’s definitely what it is.
yo bdg your tallent for surprising, confusing and delighting ppl, all while keeping us truly afraid in unearthly i fricken love this random AAAH!BBA cover thing its so good
I have been saying this for MONTHS!!! If only I was an artist.... I might make an edit after season 2 completes, so that I have more material to work with
"Me crew, I'er have a sneaking suspicion that someone in in 'ere is a traitor" "What do you mean capitain" "They tore the sails up and kill jimmy in cold blood" "That can't be" "Someone here 'ight be sosiopatic ye see, a bit sos"
I think my favourite thing about this is that Hook just sounds like he has the WORST cold and this is the primary reason he isn't plunging his eponymous prosthetic into random pirates just to remind them who he is.
see, i heard this song before i heard the original, so now this is what it refer to as the original. it just works so well in 6/8 rather than 4/4 like the abba version
LYRICS [intro] Pirate: argh, they always put me on this poop deck duty. goshdang captain hook always wants me to be on the poop deck-oh,sir. sorry sir. Hook: Oh, pay me no mind.
