To summarize, Uuno Turhapuro (the man seen initially in this clip), a resourceful epitome of deadbeat husbands to a rich wife, ends up in the army due to his father-in-law becoming the secretary of defense, who sends him there out of spite. Through funny antics, coincidences and misunderstandings Uuno ends up being promoted from a mere recruit to a major. In this clip, he's transmitting the general's coordinates to the artillery, but due to the general being requested for a scheduling, Uuno accidentally interprets the schedules as coordinates and sends them to the battery. General then requests "fire" for his cigar, so Uuno transmits the firing command as well. Once he finds out that the coordinates weren't given yet, he attempts to retract the order. The captain warns that the grenades are on their way already, and that they'd be landing quite close to the place they were situated. Once the situation is over, Uuno's secretary of defense father-in-law arrives late to the display. The general is eager to find out how they were bombarded, and Uuno, who general considers his most trusted man, offers to investigate at the battery. He's told to take the secretary of defense with him for his safety. On the way, Uuno encounters his old buddies, who are there for military refresher. They run out of gas and attempt to request aid, but the radio is broken from his end (he can't hear them but they can hear him). Well, they attempt to navigate the forest, but end up lost all the way in Sweden. The broken radio becomes a key factor in another, later clip "Sodanjulistus Ruotsia vastaan (declaration of war against Sweden).
@@thisisntmadeinchina The Uuno Turhapuro movies have a bit mixed reception among Finns. Some find them entertaining, while others loathe them. The humor is a bit unique, one might say naive, but they do have their own charm. Unfortunately, many jokes require understanding of Finnish history, culture and/or language, but guess that's the case with most foreign films.
You are not alone in this. I as a 65 yo Finnish born Australian, living in Canberra since 1961 find the language and humour difficult. Some of it I do understand. Good stuff though.
As an Naturalized Australian born in Finland I have some difficulty understanding all that's said. Still, it's funny, at least the parts I do understand. My late father Kyosti visited Finland decades after and said how the language had changed. To the extent he had difficulty understanding the train ticket sales office worker. Is Turhapuro a real surname? In my weak understanding does this translate to Useless Stream?
Cheers mate!
@@tumbo9377 So Uuno Turhapuro translates to 'One Useless Stream'. Finnish humour. They have here nicknames, an example is, a Finn man here who has a bald head they call him 'Nahka Tukka'. Skin Hair. Which I find very humourous. Saying 'cheers mate', do you have an understanding of Aussie lingo?
Olen muistaakseni kuullut saman aikaisemmin. Tosin, nykyajan kaasunaamarit ovat kaikinpuolin parempia mm. Tiivisteineen ja kiristysremmeineen kuin 1-2 maailmansodassa käytetyt. Joten en usko että se on enää samoissa määrin ongelma, ellei mennä ihan zz top/ joulupukki parta levelille lol.
