Li Long wasn't suppose to be popular...but ending up to be the best character. Mitsurugi was directed as the "main" character...but found him to be one dimensional.
To be honest he's really shonen in this game but goddamn don't i love how he just goes to find the goddamn souledge just because guns are stealing his job.
It's not too late for Li Long to be Voiced by Jin Yamanoi in Japanese for Same Games nor by Someone in English it has to be by Someone who was born in Either 1960's 1970's or 1980's same goes for Hwang Sung Kyung who should be Voiced by Wataru Takagi in Japanese and Someone in English
I don't think anybody has mentioned this yet, but I'm pretty, pretty sure this theme was based on the opening music from "Way of the Dragon". The stage might even be a tribute to the opening visuals of the movie.

7 years late reply, that may have something to do with Chinese pronunciation. Try putting 李龍 in google translate, SE's Li Long is surprisingly accurate compared to Dynasty Warriors' Gwan U, CowCow, and CowPee.

Love the verse to the song. It’s both adventurous and oddly technical. 0:17 the chords on this section get me every time. For such simple times the music still had so much to be appreciated.
Get to this stage, Pause the game with camera facing the front of the river ride Endless loop of stage moving enjoying the scenery and a relaxing theme while you do other things. I use to do this when I had to do chores 😄
I loved this theme song so much I'd dream about it at night when I was a kid. Sadly, I couldn't play with Li Long. Executing his moves required complex techniques.

This was my favorite character, my favorite stage, and one of my favorite songs from this game lol. Ironically, I didn't really like Maxi much despite him being Li Long's successor in the later games [pretty much switched to Cassandra or Taki as mains from Edge onwards].
@Locimed Not only that but EDGE games is notorious for sueing anyone with the word "Edge" in them. Technically, Namco did'nt have to remove the name legally but they did it just to avoid problems. In the end they basically relaunched the series with Soul Calibur and that is now a permenant title in the series.
why do people even make the assumption that Li Long and Maxi are simmilar characters? I mean, the two play as two COMPLETELY different characters....I say that's more than enough for a good reason to bring Li Long back.

I recently saw Soul Calibur 4 sitting on a shelf for 150 pesos (Like 14 dollars LOL) and bought it. It's a good game and all that but, still, I miss Hwang and Li Long. Instead, we get that drag queen Maxi and that whiney bitch known as Yeon-Sung or something like that xD. And I tought: "Gee, it would be great if they included the original stages with their remastered soundtrack and those two badasses in the next games." And I sighed long and deep, knowing it will never happen.
Kicking people into the water then positioning the camera in the replay to watch them sink to the bottom was extremely fun for me as an eight year old for some reason.

I'm still baffled why namco didn't kept this character. Yeah he was in SC3, but he's just a "secret" character. Same thing they did with Hwang, my favorite character in SC1.
Well technically he's not dead...to a extent if you press the x or L1 during the cut scene while he is having a heart attack he will pick up soul edge and limp off the stage. But actual cannon he died after that fight. That's how maxi started his story
*OUT OF THE RING* *The grueling battle ended with the victory of Li Long.* *YOU WIN!!* I play this game for over 10 years now and it´s still as great as i remember. It never gets old to me, graphics look great for the time, i won´t forget the hours i´ve spent playing the arcade mode and being surprised you could play as Soul Edge and spending countless hours playing Edge Master mode to get all weapons for all characters and the overall satisfaction of finally overcoming a difficult challenges and nailing down a critical edge attack. And again, 10 years of playing this game and i still find myself going back to it, it´s so awesome.
I loved how almost all the characters in this game spoke their own language instead of everyone, no matter where they come from, speaks English by default. I guess the exceptions in this one are Cervantes and Siegfried but still. Mitsurugi, Hwang, and Li Long sounded badass as fuck after winning fights.
+Sean Finney The Asian characters spoke Japanese (which was no issue for Mitsurugi and Taki), and the European ones spoke English. Like you said, it still was much better than it is now.
+SmallGreenPlanetoid Well you may be right. When I played it as a kid I assumed the characters were speaking their own native languages because of Edge Master mode. I was young and didn't know jack about other languages heh.
Sean Finney My friend had the original JP version where everyone spoke in Japanese. I had the NA version which dubbed only Siegfried, Cervantes, Sophitia, and Rock. So I thought that there might be another version out there lol. I think Namco did do the local language thing for one of the Tekkens, though.
I wish namco had kept those old characters. They keep on making new ones which is just a rehash of the older characters. Where the hell is Hwang?! Yes he's in SC3 but it was just a fucking template of the character creation bullcrap.
I was going to comment that similarity as well. It sounds like that movie's opening theme. I can't hear this without hearing those chants that play during The Way of the Dragon's theme.
Sophitia Archuleta needs to be Playable in the Original Timeline so that The 5th 6th & 7th can have Challenges and The Soul Edge Design back to be Sequels & Prequels only
Li Long was awesome, i love his style, i think his styles in one of best in Soul Blade, he had some so sweet move, he truly was the bruce lee of the soul world, I wished that bloody remove two superior characters Hwang and Li Long,,,
