The Soul Reaver, Kain's ancient blade. Older than any of us and a thousand times more deadly. The legends claim that the blade is possessed, devouring the souls of its victims. For all our bravado, we knew what it meant when Kain drew the Soul Reaver in anger: It meant you were dead.
"At last... I must say, I'm disappointed in your progress, I imagined you'd be here sooner. Tell me, did it trouble you to murder your brothers?" "Did it trouble you when you ordered me into the abyss?" "No. I had faith in you. In your ability to hate, in your self-righteous indignation." "Lies! You could not have foreseen all this!" "Eternity is relentless, Raziel. When I first stole into this chamber, centuries ago, I did not fathom the true power of knowledge. To know the future, Raziel, to see its paths and streams tracing out into the infinite. As a man, I could never have contained such forbidden truths, but each of is so much more then we once were. Gazing out across the plains of possibility, do you not feel with all your soul how we have become like gods? And as such, are we not indivisible? As long as a single one of us remains, we are Legion. And that is why, when I must sacrifice my children to the void, I can do so with a clear heart." "Very poetic, Kain, but in the end you offer no more then a convenient rationalization for your crimes!" "These chambers offer insight for those patient enough to look! In your haste to find me, perhaps you have not gazed deeply enough. Our futures are pre-destined. Moebius foretold mine a millennium ago. We each play out the parts fate has written for us. We are compelled ineluctably down pre-ordained paths. Free will... Is an illusion." "...I have been to the Tomb of the Sarafan, Kain. Your dirty secret is exposed! How could you transform a Sarafan priest into a vampire!?" "How could I not? One must keep his friends close, Raziel, and his enemies even closer. Can you grasp the absurd beauty of the paradox? We're the same, Sarafan and Vampire. With our holy wars, our obsession with Nosgoth's domination, who better to serve me then those whose passion transcends all notions of good and evil?" "I will not applaud your clever blasphemy, Kain! The Sarafan were saviours, defending Nosgoth from the corruption that WE represent! My eyes are opened, Kain, I find no nobility in the unlife you so rudely forced unto my unwilling corpse!" "You may have uncovered your past, but you know nothing of it. You think the Sarafan were noble? Altruistic? Heheh, don't be simple. They're agenda was the same as ours." "You are lost in a maze of moral relativism, Kain. These apparitions and portents, what game are you playing at now?" "Destiny is a game, is it not? And now, you await my latest move!"
@@Tayvin4042 I only remember the condensed version, which we heard in Soul Reaver 2. Bits and pieces, at least. "How could you profane a priest by TURNING HIM INTO A VAMPIRE?" is one of my favourite lines, followed by Raziel leaping to attack Kain, and promptly getting grabbed by the latter, leading to my next favourite: "How could I not? One must keep his friends close, Raziel, and his enemies EVEN closer." Then after Kain tosses Raziel aside, "Who better to serve me than those whose passion transcends all notions of good and evil?"
My favorite line is easily "I must say I'm disappointed in your progress." Most end bosses are like "What? I didn't think you could survive my monsters?" Kain is just "Man, you suck." @@SaviourV
The only critique I have is that Raziel says "I will not applaud your clever blasphemy" and not "I will not applaud your clever blasphemy, Kain." And he says "on" instead of "unto" 'my unwilling corpse.' Otherwise an accurate recreation. (Yes, I am insane.)
Wonderful, it does't matter how old i get, it gets me back when i was just a little kid watching his mother playing this game at 9 pm every day, good times back then...

Actually many of the folks who worked on soul reaver and it's sequels tried to get another made, but there was a lot of legal issues and funding that got in the way. That, and voice actors such as the voice of the Elder God have died. It's a real shame considering the games that get 8 or more different iterations that are all basically the same. Then there's the lack of advancements in story for such games, it's like making games has become all about profits and no one longer cares to produce great stories anymore. */end/walloftext.exe*
Back when I played the game and reached Kain's Throne/Pillar's Room, I put the volume up loud so I get ta hear the soundtrack theme. I even extended the fight and avoided Kain attacks so I get ta listen ta the theme a bit longer. Also, I wonder what Isekai/Action/Anime will fit with this badass theme?
@@georgehouliaras7239 CONSCIENCE!? You DARE to speak to ME of CONSCIENCE!? Only when you have faced the full gravity of choice should you DARE question MY Judgement!! Someone just liked this comment and it reminded me of the conversation I had with him immediately after posting it. I read the comment back to him, he thought it was quite amusing and then we talked LoK lore for an hour
Kain: "The blade is vanquished... so it unfolds... and we are a step closer... to our destinies!" **vanishes while laughing maniacally as Raziel fades into the spectral realm** Raziel: "I swore I saw a glint of satisfaction in Kain's eye when the Soul Reaver was destroyed... I did not understand the game that Kain was playing... but I knew the finishing move." **grabs wraith blade**
Because it's based on the terrible Dreamcast port not the original PS1 game 😟 though it looks like that may change since all the games have been pulled from sale for "Essential updates", sounds like they're working on bringing them up to snuff
@@thetimberwolf100 I am your creation, Kain, now as before! You criticize your own work. What have you done to my clan, degenerate!? You have no right!
