After these two amps sounded so similar here, and some speculating that we aren't hearing two different amps, I went back and listened to most of the videos featuring these Elacs, and I've never heard any other speaker sound so similar with such a wide range of amps. There are audible differences, but they are far less pronounced than with the KEF R3s, Metas and Q350s, or the Diamond 12.2s, or most other speakers. The Audiolab, NAD 316, and Rotel in some ways sound the brightest, not because of the brightest highs, but because of the brightest and most forward mids. The Brio came close in that regard, but with less extended highs. The AXR85, CXA61, Yamaha S301, and Arcam have the brightest treble, with the AXR85 and S301 sounding the most V shaped on some tracks, especially the Yamaha on the lead trumpet on Leroy, the vocals on Pull Me Closer, and the guitar on Fields, where those all sounded more recessed and distant than on other amps, or on that amp with other speakers. The biggest shock to me was with the Rotel and NAD 316, in Pull Me Closer, after the lead vocal stops and there's that short drum break and then the vocorder effected vocal comes in on the right and the distant normal vocal comes in on the left, before the lead vocal comes back in in the center, on those two amps those left and right vocals sound hardly like they're panned left and right at all, like they sound on all the other amps, but like they're just slightly right and left of center. Now I'm going to have to listen for a more compressed stereo spread with those amps on other tracks and with other speakers.

That shimmer up top the 6000a posseses is not found on the Brio. The 6000a is also a tad more spacious and airier, like it has more depth (not width).

you have no idea what I was waiting for this video !! all confirmed what hi fi, more dynamic and narrow Brio and wider Audiolab with more refined highs ... Now please: Cambridge Audio a ax35 vs Audiolab 6000a please

easy: brio emphasizes the mids more. so the sound is a bit warmer and fuller. for that the separation of the highs and lows on the 6000a is more hearable. i think brio is the better amp. especially for his superb phono stage!

I have a question, how are you inputing the line signal of the reference tracks? Are you using a DAC or a AUX (1/8' to RCA) in?

up to the death metal looks like Brio is soft & nice but ... 6000a wins at the finish line: better control, more details ... very nice pair Audiolab 6000A / Elac DBR62. TY 4 VIDEOS!!!

you see, the difference between the two amplifiers is very small via youtube. here only IRL could do justice (otherwise I would choose Audiolab with DBR62)

The Rega Brio doesn't have a flat frequency response like the 6000A. There is a small bump in both the treble and bass and a large bump in the midrange. Therefore, the Rega will come across as "better" to most people.

Wow these are SO close. I bought an 8000A the year it first came out (din inputs). It slaughtered most things in those days, even way more expensive stuff. Time moves on and the Brio looks a tremendous buy.

I would take either of these amps in a heartbeat I'm really liking these Elacs, if I walked out of the shop with this setup with either amp id be a happy man, I wonder what they would sound like with Buchardt S400 MKII

Viva. Apesar de soarem com alguma parecença, dei por mim a gostar mais do Brio, principalmente nas vozes e em altas frequências, com agudos com menos "grão". Os baixos também me pareceram mais atrevidos, a subir e descer de notas. Saudações de Portugal.

I’m getting some serious bass distortion from the turntable….. got anything insight to help a brother out? I’m using the Brio. Thx in advance.

After hearing the Blind test comparison, I have reconsidered my earlier conclusion that both amps audio here is the 6000A. I now think I hear super subtle differences in the form of very slightly thinner midrange and less weighty bass from the Brio. They still sound more alike to me here than what I think I've identified as these two in the blind test. Of course, maybe I'm not right about that either. 😳🤪🤯🤔

More weight on 6000a, maybe takes away a little detail on some tracks. Very similar though

I like the Brio but I like the Audiolab even more 😍 Better balanced sound and warmer basses, the Brio sounds a little too bright on high mids to my ears.
@DougMen1

The Elacs are holding back the Audiolab, and not allowing it to produce the extended bass and treble that it has compared to the Brio. A mid-centric speaker with a mid-centric amp doesn't make for a very engaging or enjoyable listening experience. I can hear the extra treble extension and associated air and space that Mark speaks of, but not nearly as much as I should, because of the speakers.

❓❓❓I'm a little perplexed by this demo, and why on earth it sounds like there's little to NO difference between the sound of these two amps here. I've heard enough demo's of both these amps now to know that the Brio and the Audiolab shouldn't sound almost exactly alike with any speaker. In fact the Brio here does not sound like the Brio in it's earlier demos.. It just does not have the brightness, bass, or extra midrange body of the 6000A. I believe the audio of both amps is actualy the Audiolab 6000A. I hear the audio switch, but the sound doesn't really change.

I posted links to the original videos of both amps with this speaker under David's comment. They do sound almost identical to me when I toggle back and forth between the two. I think the speaker is imparting its own sound on both amps. Listen to both and see what you think.

To me it sounds like the Brio's sound is the same audio signal as the 6000A's, possibly going through one extra generation of processing, so that the very extreme highest and lowest frequencys change the tiniest little bit, but 98% percent of the sound is exactly the same. It's not how the Brio has sounded to me before

Not getting any difference here E. Seems like there's a problem somewhere. Seems like the Audiolab all the way through, either that or I really must make an appointment for ear syringing.
@DougMen1
@DougMen1 2 года назад
Here's the two original videos with this speaker. They do sound very very similar. IMO, the speaker is imparting its own sound on them, and is bringing the Audiolab down to the Brio's level and not allowing it to produce the extended bass and treble that it has. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-L_pGzW0Elxw.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R8rK6wpNsWo.html Two mid-centric amps with a mid-centric speaker, not a good match in either case, IMO.

@@DougMen1 So, does E not record the videos afresh each time ? This must be about the closest that any two amps have sounded on a particular speaker and seems very odd. It kind of goes against all the other videos that E has made. I mean if I were coming to this fresh-faced, I might say there you go, two different amps, virtually no difference in sound, 1-0 to Amir !!!! I've decided that ASR is almost pointless on amps and dacs since if SINAD is your only guage, the Chinese will beat you every time for less money, so just buy something cheap and Chinese. Virtually all, Western designed audio components are tweaked or tuned in some way. I just wish manufacturers would say, yeah we've tweaked our product a bit, or a lot, or we've done f'all to it - it's straight from the drawing board or the CAD workstation. But it's never going to happen. Of course some components are designed a certain way purely due to ignorance or complacency.
@DougMen1
@DougMen1 2 года назад
@@davidcarr2216 I think it's that the Chinese stuff is just designed from the data sheet of the devices used, but the big well known companies use that as a starting point and then tweak the design from listening tests by the designers. And, yes, if E already has a speaker and amp combination on file, he's going to use that one. It would be unnecessary and time consuming to record it all over again, when all he has to do is use the recording he has and edit it for the new video.
@DougMen1
@DougMen1 2 года назад
@@davidcarr2216 That's why I have a problem with ASR. He doesn't even listen to amps and DACs, and only listens to one speaker in mono. We have learned here that there are things that can be heard but not measured, like how some combinations of amp and speaker work better than others, and they aren't always the ones we would expect, based on specs. Otherwise all cost no object speakers or amps would all be perfect and all sound the same, which is clearly not the case. But, you're right that these two amps sound more alike with this speaker than just about any other combinations we've heard here, which makes me think that the speaker is imparting its sound on both amps.
@DougMen1
@DougMen1 2 года назад
@@davidcarr2216 Even amps and DACs that have what he considers a terrible SINAD is still inaudible, and so has no effect on the sound quality of the product, and buying anything based on that alone would be foolish. Mark said that after he got burned on the Brio that it was the last time he ever bought anything without hearing it first. I don't know how he does that with SMSL and Topping products, unless there are audio stores in Thailand that stock them

@DougMen1

@@zeppzepp1234 It's a good way to be consistent, because some amps don't have DACs, and this way we're hearing the analog preamp and power amp of every amp.
