一音一語で対応できるところが日本語の一番の強み!日本語はロックに合ってるとまで言い切る米国ミュージシャンもいる。The greatest strength of Japanese is that it can be handled one by one! Some American musicians even say that Japanese is good for rock.
The fact they all practice Shigin behind the scenes is so fun to me. It's something you would only expect from the vocalist. But she made it infectious and now I can just picture them all just mumbling things behind the scenes. Awesome band!
The first time I heard them, they blew me away. This is a great interview, better than the ones when they were in US, though they were fun. I think there are many like me that are waiting for this band and many others from Japan to begin to tour the US again. I would like to hear from their sound engineer on setting up for them and how they manage the sound for a concert. Thank You so much for the Eng Subs.
I've been a guitarist since 1961 when I was 9 years old. Now I'm 72. I spent my life exploring music from around the world. I just found this band a few months ago and I love them! Their mix of modern and traditional is fantastic.
I've not heard better persuasion than the WB. their onstage energy and passion is truly seraphic. timeless music. I only hope they obtain the world wide fame they deserve. And the world will be better for it. these guys have that otherworldliness. We give great respect to them.
The Japanese traditional Sound and music is my favourite, and Wagakki band is the best japanese band i have ever seen befeore. Really impresive and honored to heard those beautiful sound !!
Wagakki Band is amazing. It's great to see them getting the world-wide recognition they deserve. I hope they can come back to the USA and play more shows. I would love to see them. If not... I will have to plan a trip to Japan.
The music they make has so many interesting layers to it which makes it a wonderful journey, if you are a composer. What's also great is that they are not one dimensional so every composition is completely different. The percussion is of a very high standard.
Thank you very much. I admire the way you mix and match very different emotions and nuances in your music and live performances. I never met a group that can play speed rock, lullabies/tender ballads, cheerful pop-rock, and traditional things equally with such ease and elegance. The way every instrument, every personality shines in your work causes only respect and admiration. The variety and diversity of your songs makes it always interesting and insightful to listen, never boring, everyone can find something. And yes, some songs really feel like anime soundtracks 🙂 some make me wish to laugh, to cry, to dance, to just sit and breathe with hope. I would definitely love to see you in Europe, I hope there will be more and more fans of your creativity here. The world should know you! ☺️
Don't forget they have played jazz-like tracks as well (Synchronicity), and Western-style acoustic as well (if you remove the Wagakki instruments). And Yuko can sing Western style pop too! And the crazier thing is that they are able to break out into smaller units too.
Love this interview, it really shows the companionship they built up and how close they all are. Asa and Kiyoshi are pretty much the foundation of this group, while Yuko is the core. Beni, Kiyoshi and Daisuke are the tune and Kurona and Wasabi are the hype-man. Kurona’s calls are extremely good and he does an excellent job at getting the audience to follow calls. It’s amazing how fast Yuko adjust to the microphone and sound. Her first live on this show she had to gauge the volume of the microphone after going full blast the first many notes. Honestly, was the fault of the sound engineer underestimating a Shigin singer, because they have very well developed diaphragm.
This is the first time I have seen this video and it is very impressive. I first heard a song by WGB when someone posted the music video for Kishikaisei on Facebook and I was instantly enthralled, especially by the use of traditional instruments, and the perfect voice of Yuko. To me, she is the finest unknown vocalist on the planet and no one that I mention off the top of my head can match her. After that I was off to the races. I have virtually every one of their songs in my library, as well as the solo performances by Yuko such as Campanula and Cradle of Eternity. I also saw a video of Yuko singing in what seemed to be a jazz club that was amazing also. And when you add in Machiya, Asa, Kiyoshi, Beni, Daisuke, Kurona and Wasabi and their excellence in musicianship it's like having an all-star team. WGB reminds me of the true supergroups of the late 1960's to late 1970's such as Cream and Blind Faith. I feel that WGB is a supergroup in the true sense of the word. And least I forget, Yuko excellence on keyboards is fantastic. WGB has more excellent composers, lyricists and arrangers than any other group in existence. Watching that video also rekindled my love for Japanese music, which started back in the 1990's with The 5, 6, 7, 8's and then later with Show-Ya. In my opinion, Japan leads the world in great new music. The US has slipped down when it comes to quality music over the last 7-8 years. I hope the band will be doing US Tour sometime in 2024. I'm 76 and a dedicated rocker since the late 1950's and haven't been this happy in a long time. There are so many great artists in Japan and other parts of Asia that it has become the epicenter of good modern music and the resurrection of classic rock that has been long dormant. And finally, I would like to wish Yuko and Kiyoshi all the best on the upcoming 1st birthday of their daughter. 1st birthdays are a VERY big thing here in the US and I hope it is the same in Japan. Thanks for all the joy your music has brought to not only the US, but the entire planet.

Ninagawa Beni has a youtube channel. She's the shamisen. I get to see her probably once a week. To band I don't know Japanese. Thank you for this upload. Subscribing and hitting bell for notices. Arigato Senpai.
They play so many styles and have vast experience creating music individually. Yuko can play classically (Western-style), can sing "shigin" and pop, Machiya is a great singer too, and they harmonize beautifully. And the crazier thing is that they are able to do this in smaller sub-units of 2 or 3 players, which are equal to other entire bands. The rock sun-unit can perform by themselves. We already have Hanafugetsu for traditional music.
