I am from India. I have lived in the USA for 5 years. I have all vaccines and have been vaccinated in the USA for safety purposes there are not any issues with my blood other than the fact that i am from a poor country. My blood is just not good enough for the USA. Good luck getting blood donations after constantly rejecting individuals willing to do it on some criteria. I agree it is important for safety and health but if i have given blood before and those individuals have stayed healthy and you literally don't have any other reason than worried about the country of origin it feels frustrating.

I used to live in Queens, New York until I moved out of the country in 2017. I remember that there used to be so many more cicadas during my childhood in the 1990s. Then by the early 2000's, their number decreased drastically. I heard that cicadas spend 13 years of their life underground and once they emerge, there is a lot more of them than usual. So once every 13 years, there should be a summer with much more of them than usual. However, I feel like the news talks about this " once in 13 year cicada event" almost every year (instead of every 13 years) and when the summer comes, there doesn't seem to be anymore cicadas than usual. Am I going crazy or does anyone else feel like they hear the same thing about the cicadas almost every year? My parents still live in New York so I will ask them if they see a lot more cicadas than usual next summer.

Yes, me too, about the multi-year cicadas in the news. I looked it up, & apparently there are, for instance, 17-year cicadas on different schedules. So we do get them pretty often. Also, there are cicadas that appear every year,, or every few years. Either way, they're noisy! I live in. Kansas City, and they seem loud to me, even on 'off' years, lol.

Different species have different life cycles. The rarest (but not the only one this year ) is the coincidence of the emergence of Brood XIII and Brood XIX (13y and 19y cycles). The event won't affect NY at all

I can't give blood because I have way too much iron. I will sit in a chair while they drain my blood, yet the person around the curtain is getting iron infusions because she doesn't have enough. But I can't give blood - f-ing weird!!!!

The human body can naturally regulate excess iron, but cannot regulate exogenous heme iron. Stop eating meat, and that problem will solve itself.

Yes, selective breeding could be responsible for tail wagging, but I don't think it has anything to do with rhythm. Most likely it has do with dogs' most important trait: their ability to effectively communicate with us nonverbaly. Dogs are very expressive and wagging your tail is a very clear signal for happiness
@ty_teynium
@ty_teynium 8 месяцев назад
That's what I was thinking. The fact at 3:38 stated there said something about humans brains responding to positive rhythms, but that has nothing to do with the dog, nor explains why the dog wags its tail. Maybe it's a typo and it meant Dog's brain instead?
@Mr.Anders0n_
@Mr.Anders0n_ 8 месяцев назад
@@ty_teynium I don't think it was a typo. Evolutionary biologists love to the play the random association game 😁 that's why they sometimes come up with really wacko ideas. I remember recently I read something about humans walking pace and rhythm.
@quackman
@quackman 8 месяцев назад
exactly, and we pay attn bc of rhythm. it works in both directions. The idea is that the tails wag *in rhythm* and that attracts human attention better than a non-rhythmic wag, hence better non-verbal communication.
@Mr.Anders0n_
@Mr.Anders0n_ 8 месяцев назад
@@quackman I see what you mean but I'm still not convinced. Rhythm is basically a repetitive pattern/cycle which is a fundamental feature of the universe (e.g. day/night cycles, electromagnetic wave frequencies, crystal lattice structures, etc.). Also, producing and recognizing a simple repetitive pattern is more efficient than doing it with a random pattern. I think there's a confusion between correlation and causation. Think of walking for example. It sure produces a very steady rhythm, but it'd be absurd to claim that humans walk this way BECAUSE it's rhythmic. Human gait is the most efficient way to move. So, you have a SYMMETRICAL biological machine moving in the most efficient way, and the OUTCOME is a distinct rhythm, not the cause.
@quackman
@quackman 8 месяцев назад
@@Mr.Anders0n_ fair enough, I guess the theory/stud(ies) is there on both ends. I can't imagine at least a minor selection bias for dogs with better rhythm over the centuries. "not all dogs..." as the saying might go. Humans and our ancestors evolved over a gargantuan amt of time, with evolution favoring a more rhythmic walk possibly even bc of other humans' attention. I think like today, not all humans had the same perfect rhythm.
