Why are some of these comments so critical??? These kids are 16 years old. They’re not competing for some Hollywood show. Good job, guys, and thank you for posting.
Thank you all for the comments and support, and especially for all the advice and hard comments, they've helped me take my voice to new heights over the past few years!
Get rid of all the background dancers, or whatever they were. And the girl in red, towards the beginning, with the other boy. You don't need all that interpretive dance nonsense, just rely on the power of your voice. The backup singers should stay, their higher voices balance your baritone, but all the people behind you just dancing strangely distract from a bad ass vocalist, who is WAY too good, for being as young as you are. You don't need the fluff, son, you're THAT good, all on your own.
Holy crap! Unbelievably amazing. The original has always been a favorite of mine but this is one of the very few that honor it and belong right beside it. Hope you've kept up singing. The world needs a beautiful voice and spirit to shine through right now!
The choreography and staging added so much. ALL of the participants made this a great performance. This young man understands "showmanship". His voice will keep developing. Keep singing young man.
I'm glad he didn't embellish the way singers do these days. He kept it pure and simple and let his beautiful voice carry the song. The chorus with him are a perfect complement. Absolutely beautiful.!
I’m so glad I watched the video thru to the end before reading the comments. This young man is quite amazing really. The choreography of the backup singers was quite demonstrative, in synch with one another and it was clear they depicted the message the song was meant to deliver. A refreshing and moving video. Loved the timbre of his voice. Well done!
This will always be a memory to share, rejoice and remember. I'm beyond impressed. Beautiful performances by all! This performance is one I listen to quite often. Beautiful. Thank you!
They were all great! Their sign language added to the performance. It was shared to me by someone who loved it. I have watched it over and over. Very Well Done.
Criticism is not warranted by anybody, it is all about the storey being told, this young man and dancing crew, told it to perfection. God bless their performance.
Didn't think anyone would ever begin to compare to disturb's version.........WOW.....Excellent performance!!!@@@@ U have done the impossible!!!! Good luck! God bless!
Amazing how so many pointed out the shortcomings of this performance. Don't let that deter you, great performance by a talented bunch: lead vocals, chorus, AND interpretive dancers!!
I don't think they meant any harm pointing out the imperfections, he's young, at his age, I'd take the pointers, work on it to get better. Constructive criticism is a much maligned learning opportunity nowadays. Like many have said, he's got potential, just needs to polish up a bit.
Beautiful rendition of what is already a beautiful cover of a classic song. Much better of a performance than those who think are stars in Hollywood. Keep up the good work.
I came to watch this after seeing an advertisement about this young man, and I’m so glad I did!!! You did an outstanding job as well as the rest of the cast!!! Bravo Bravo!!!
Today's youth taking on a very big song that they truly cant grasp but still performed well. Big cheers to the students and all their hard work. Well done guys and gals!
Oh My Gosh....If that young man doesn't become a professional singer I will be very sad and disappointed. That was AMAZING....I was in awww...Sure the dancing could have been a little different, but hey they still tried. But Damn that young man can sing. They should send this to David Draiman from Disturbed. I just cant say it enough how I enjoyed listening to this. Good Job everyone.
Just stumbled across this video and wow what a performance. From a young chap with likely self taught vocals has performed a brilliant version of Sound of Silence......... Well done to the full supporting cast.
Forward thinking in that dancers, sign language, a choir and the costumes is ingenious. Reuben sings like an angel, a deep voiced angel. A great performance. Hope he gets a career in music performance.
What an amazing performance!! It's a difficult song to sing and be able to bring enough emotion and he did a beautiful job. Best of luck to him in all of his future endeavors!!
This has become my favorite song of the month on RU-vid. I really like the dancers as well, the various groups, dresses, (great freshness, authenticity, charming,) and the contrast of the (esp.) female back up singing. Added to my playlist "See the Main Chance Auditions." Are there any other versions of it online. It seems we're missing a bunch of the dance. Still it's an interesting effect, filling the screen, enticing. Awesome lighting effects! I see there are more performances, videos! Great!
These kids did a great job! The lead, Ruben, did a lovely job singing the Disturbed version of such a wonderful song. I've been a fan of this song since I first heard the Simon and Garfunkel version! Nicely done, guys!
This song has haunted me since S&G first released it. It was on the radio for so many life events and experiences; break-ups, make-ups, the one that got away, miscarriages, and deaths. For whatever reason, this version right now struck a chord deeper than any other. Pardon me while I look for the windshield wiper switch on a Motorola G4. Great job.
The best thing about the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence is that it brought the genius of Paul Simon to a new audience 50 years after the song was written. It took a lot of guts to tackle this version of the song.
Just saw this for the first time. Usually not a fan of covers on legendary songs like this one...but young man, stunning cover! I'll be watching fir you because you're going to be a star, no doubt!!!❤
Epic! Brought back fond memories of when my daughter was in Show Choir in high school. And to the person who commented that, hopefully, Disney isn't involved, is absolutely correct. My daughter auditioned for them in one of their Show Choir weeks, and they destroyed her dream to sing for them. I regretted not telling her that Disney is not what it seems, but I didn't want to taint her experience.
Spoke with him today. He said if its Gods will, he will make it. Which is very true. I believe he can go far and I have put in a good word to a producer I know. So hopefully. If you know of anyone to help him, pass his video on.
His voice is really really lovely. Hope he's still singing! If not it would be a wasted talent. So beautiful! Also he seems like the stage is his forever home ☺️ You may be really proud of your son!
This song has always evoked a strong emotional response in me.But damn, I'm crying like a baby! This young man is brilliantly performing one of my favorite songs!
Agreed, he doesn't really change pitch that much, very close together, everyone has their own way to "make it there own" but when using disturbed's music to back it, I would have liked to see more vocal range used.
For any whingers "Take a hike" This guy is good specially since he is just 16 and not a professional singer YET....... Respect from someone who knows music and good artist.
That's very impressive. There must be a number of songs that can be reinterpreted along these lines. Lower voice ranges are much undersold! We need to hear more.
