one of my favourite ganres of music.that classic fender guitar sound drenched in fender reverb created a timeles tone that dreams are made of and will live forever.this was the origional sound of teenage rebellion!
Yes, it's been a long time since the trailer and the ensuing buzz for this film first appeared. The film exists in a rough cut stage and WILL get finished. The big hurdle has been financial. Licensing music and other source material is costly. Your patience will be rewarded.
0:33 "I was a surfer.... (leans forward) I was a Kahuna. I was a fuel injected suicide machine. I was a rocker, I was the roller, I was the out-of-controller."
Although a sort-lived phenomenon in rock music, the Surf Music era produced some great bands & epic sounds. Loud crashing guitar riffs, heavy driving bass lines & BIG Drums. Growing up in the So Cal beach scene of '62- '65, I remember well being a kid caught up in these great times........
Even garage bands that I played with did surf music on the east coast. If you have Sirius XM they have a surf music channel which proves surf music is not dead. Rip Dick Dale.
Hi John, congrats on having your screening tonight at the Newport Beach film festival! I heard your interview this morning on Laguna Beach radio, very cool that Ed had you on his show, documentaries of all kinds need more airtime on the radio for sure. I hope you send a press release to NPR, morning edition, this American life and other radio programs around the country. This is good stuff, looking forward to seeing your film on the Festival circuit!
@@siemprecansado8418 Majestics, Tornados, Genteels, Jim Head and the Delrays, The Show-Men, just to name a few. KMEN was credited as one of the radio stations that debuted Surf Bands records on the air, including Dick Dale. Lastly, the Armory in Riverside was a weekend hotbed for Surf bands in the early 1960s, as was the Swing Auditorium or the National Orange Show Auditorium in San Bernardino.
Surf is a truly magnificent American genre. Its influence is more far-ranging than most people think, even surf fans. No less than Keith Moon was a huge surf fanatic, and would have quit The Who in a heartbeat had The Beach Boys asked him to join the band.
I was there. LA and south to Newport Beach (remember the Rhythm Rockers). The 60's were a bitchen time to be a teenaged surfer. Pure fun and great music.
I know this is an old post, but just found it and have to write a comment. Born and raised in the South Bay, surfed and had my own surf band and still play surf music to this day.....and guys like me chased girls like you! :) What a great time to be alive!
I lived it...Hot rods and surfing... Beach Bunnies and bikini hunnies, it was the best time to alive and free... California was the place to be... Newport Beach, the wedge... Huntington Beach (aka, Surf City).... surf culture, tiki island... the music was fun and totally represented my generation.
Like so many other kids, this music is what I learned to play guitar. In Sacramento, CA. There were so many bands and dances going on every weekend. Went to Santa Cruz to surf a couple of times...saw The Beach Boys in concert for their first live recording. Great stuff
@brokenbeard1 Actually Paul Johnson's The Belairs put out "Mr. Moto" months before Dick Dale's "Let's Go Trippin'" in 1961. I think he means with bands like The Ventures and The Shadows, the point where surf actually started is hard to pinpoint.
Who needs a board , body surfer , flippers and hand pads in storm swells later I had waist belt for float in chaos type water . Manasquan pocket, Sea Girt wall , Merrick board to pickup the birds when water too mellow. 1973-1984 Jackson Ave
wow great footage and pics allthough dont agree with paul johnson "no one discoverd surf music"Dick Dale discoverd Surfmusic didnt he????this is wonderfull stuff cant wait for the film to be finished great work soundofthesurf////
As of 5/2020, not yet. BUT, it will get finished. All the major filming has been done and we're in post now. Many, many hurdles, however, most of which have been overcome. Please be patient a little while longer.
Am I missing something? Is this a movie about surf music? I've looked every where on the net to see it. I even looked to see if Amazon had it for sale. No luck with Netflix, so what's up? January 2008 has been quite a while ago!
Californians 1960: grab your board and guitar and throw them in the back of the Woody. Californians 2020: quick, grab a bat and your black mask and throw them in the back of the Tesla!
Surf music lives! Here's a 2022 NEW surf rock tune full of Dick Dale vibes and fun lyrics - "Trans'Pacific Beach Bum" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P25StdSHUic.html
In 50 years someone will make a movie about how cool the 2010's were, you are living now why not not make the best of it. There was plenty of screwed up people back then too, the 60's were great if you were white and rich let me tell you. Try to find the movie "American Graffiti", it will give you a cool 1950's time warp.
No one will ever make a movie about the cool 2010s. They just weren’t. Kids today are so starved for authentic experience they’re nostalgic for the goddamned 90s ffs!
