I hope you all remember this bus from the 90s, it's the TTC New Flyer D40-90!
The Commission had awarded a $17.2 million contract to New Flyer Industries for the supply of 79 diesel buses to be delivered in 1990. These were also the first buses for the conventional fleet came with air conditioning and were exactly identical to the previous orders with small differences, they were similar looking on the exterior except the rear portion. They were delivered in the "CLRV" livery used from the 1980s into the 1990s and the first buses to be delivered with electronic Luminator destination signs as well as the first Cummins diesel engines in the conventional fleet. They were delivered alongside 6640-6745 and 9370-9394.
This series of buses have a different interior scheme with the seating arrangement altered. Similar to the past orders, they had standard cream and brown colour scheme on the inside and was configured for 40 passengers using the Otaco Model 6468 passenger seats that has padded brown vinyl seat inserts. Additional features that also came were the ZF 4HP500 4 speed transmission and the kneeling capability that allows the elderly to board the buses as indicated by the "Easier Access" sticker.
These buses have received a 6-year rebuild between 1997 through 2001 with the seats replaced with unpadded red fabric from Holdsworth. The ZF 4HP500 were also been replaced by Allison V730 transmissions after they were proved to be unreliable with components failing in under six months.
Sadly, these buses retired in between September 2001 and June 2004 due to mechanical and corrosion problems (as always). They're replaced by 220 low floor buses from Orion (which is Orion VII EGR).
May these buses RIP :'(
Engine: Cummins LTA10B 240 hp
Transmission: Allison V730 3 speed (previously have ZF 4HP500 4 speed)
Note: These buses are different than the New Flyers D40-87, 88, and 89 because it has no rear window. Also, this audio is not mine, it's from this website here that recorded by Allen Dicion (I think): www.transithub....
