One thing I think this video does, apart from showing what this compressor is capable of, is that it wonderfully demonstrates how compression can do as much harm as it does good. At the very beginning when you have a fast attack and slow release, the transients are being killed and all of the life, energy and space is sucked out of the mix. After you bring the attack time from .1 to 1, and move get a faster release, the opposite effect happens. Suddenly this already good sounding mix is really brought to life! Of course fast attack is necessary for a lot of things, but I mean to say, using a great compressor incorrectly can be worse than not using one at all.
It sounds as amazing as I thought it was going to. Thanks so much for the example!! Very good job matching levels and showing off the extreme settings vs the subtle ones. Bravo!!
@@preciseaudioblog Well, I don’t have the SSL unit in my studio, so I can’t compare them directly. But let’s put it this way: Ever since I got the CP4500, I’ve never felt the need to buy an SSL compressor. 😉 Also, for me it’s so much more rewarding to build my own studio gear.
