"Black Rain" is a single by the American rock band Soundgarden, featuring lyrics written by frontman Chris Cornell and music written by bassist Ben Shepherd and guitarist Kim Thayil.
The song was mostly recorded during sessions for "Badmotorfinger" in 1991. It was officially released as a single and in the "Telephantasm" compilation in 2010 and in the 2014 compilation "Echo of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path".

Most people don't seem to know: Soundgarden started as a post-punk group. They were just as influenced by Joy Division as they were Black Sabbath. Kim Thayil even used Echo & the Bunnymen as a true example of alternative music. My favorite grunge band!

It annoys me to no end that I just recently looked up the lyrics, and he's saying "For your wings". It makes too much sense for him to instead be saying "Furl your wings". :(

@@Nudiescorner My hearing is fine, and his pronunciation and the fact that "Furl" literally means to fold makes a hell of a lot more sense than "For your wings to cover me". If you actually listen closer, it sounds like if he is actually saying "for", he's saying it like "Fur".

I used to see them and Nirvana and Mudhoney and Dinosaur Jr and the Cows and Drive like Jehu and Royal Trux, Claw Hammer, and on and on [never saw Boss Hog or Pussy Galore though x( ], in TINY clubs way before they got radio play or could sell out big venues- and even then they’d play these same little clubs. Best music scene EVER in human history- PERIOD. The Melvins STILL play and produce amazing music.
