People criticizing his singing don't realize how fucking difficult it is to sing this song in full, he was drenched probably in the middle of the concert, imagine singing an entire set of Soundgarden songs, your voice is going get worn out quickly, Chris had a godly voice, rest peacefully Chris
All valid, plus you never know where they were in the tour schedule. I saw them four or five times and he sounded fantastic all but one of them. On that tour, I caught the tail end, he was sick, and should not have been trying to sing. RIP, Chris.
Chris had no clue just how missed he would be. I never personally knew him, but I would've loved to tell him that I love him (no homo) & that his music saved my life many times. His voice was the soundtrack to my life as well as Paul Stanley of KISS.
DO any of you guys understand how High pitched that fucking song is? he did it really well, especially cause it seems this wasn't the first song of the set (by all the sweat) .. also this song is not that short if you consider that the entire time he is combining belting/head voice.. beautiful technique.. he didn't even let that shit crack. agree it might not have been his best night.. But beautiful nonetheless and impressive, even scary for singers that watch this...
agree. not to mention, look at how he's soaking sweaty, it must have been very hot in there. anyone who played on stage in a closed venue packed with lots people knows how high the temperature can be, and it's so hard to perform well in those conditions. but he did a great job nonetheless. long live SG
Yeah, it's incredible! I thought he'd begun to lose his voice after hearing that acoustic gig he did in Sweden where his voice was really sore, but this song is INSANE. I mean, that high C alone is hard enough. I know a guy who can't go higher than that even in falsetto but Chris goes all the way up to F towards the end. :O
Chris hitting an F5 in 2010? Holy shit he trained so hard to do this. Usually he can barely hit it when they do wheel and christ pose post reunion. Go him!
+solidmahoganyemg81 Saw them back in July and he was fucking AMAZING! Just looking at him perform you could tell that he was comfortable, warmed up and knew what he was doing =)
@@rogerm1343 he does kill it every time, absolutely, but at the same time you can hear the slight strain which is completely justified considering Chris literally damaged his vocals severely early on. good on him for still continuing to be able to hit those extreme notes with power despite this, an absolute legend who refused to let down.
As if this man couldn't get more gorgeous, he was even hotter soaking wet playing that guitar. If I was in the audience I would've probably lost my damn mind.
Saw them at Lollapalooza in 92 when Badmotorfinger was out. They were amazing then and still sound amazing and tight as ever...can't wait for more new stuff!!!

@worthlessburger7 It was never actually finished during the Badmotorfinger sessions. They dug it out and finished it, mixed it, etc. So in a sense it's kind of a new and old song at the same time, which is really cool.
This one is the actual best live performance, the other one here on RU-vid that says that in the title is literally wrong, the other one has professional camera work, yes, but it does not have this energy and the audio on Chris voice is too low in comparison to the instruments, so, this one is objectively better in musical power.
Chris wont never again sound like in the 90s but that they actually pulled this song off tells me that they still got it. never thought they would do this song live, i thought it would sound worse than this.
Go watch his version of Ticket to ride live in January at the Troubadour. It must be one of his best live performances ever. If they don't play many difficult-to-sing songs and if Chris is on a good day I'm sure he's possible of making the audience look for their jaws at the floor!!!
One of my favourite performances of Black Rain. It looks and sounds like an early Soundgarden club gig, except Cornell's timbre is way drier, he does a great job filling out those high notes though with chest resonance and distortion like only he could. It was surreal to see him not shy away from these big songs (vocally) when he was getting older, especially after how hard he went with Audioslave. This stage of his career will always be the most impressive to me technically, he was twice the age many great rock singers are when they fall off and yet, he was still screaming harder than they ever did while retaining a healthy tone. It's one thing to hit notes but to go onstage in your 40's and 50's and have to figure out distortion and range on the spot while affording quality tone or resonance, so that you overdeliver without sounding like self parody - it sounds so exhausting.
@worthlessburger7 The song it self was written in 1992 (Just a guess) and was supposed to be released for the Badmotorfinger album but it never happend.
@revan91m This dont sound like the 90s.....it sounds like the fuckin 80s chris cornell. It dont have to sound good to you, but it does sound like it was made wen they 1st started buzzin. This is my new favorite song. Big SG fan & I'm glad they back.
Chris can hit the high notes, it just doesnt sound right because Chris back then had the rough sound and his pitch was lower sounding witch fit well with the SG songs back then, now his voice is a pitch higher which throws the sound a little bit werid in a sense.
the day i heard this song on a radio i don't listen to, my ballsack hairs turned into 8" knives and launched straight through my pants. i was up on a lot of their b-sides, didn't know about this one then.
@Gamejerk I have been searching Nudedragons and Soundgarden and I have yet to see any sites with tickets for sale, let alone and tour dates scheduled at all...sadface
@Hamburgers585 When you sing high like that, you leave yourself open for inconsistency, it's not a natural human vocal function to project that high all the time, so if he does it too much his voice is slightly raw. Look at the video of the show at the Showbox back in April, he killed it on Beyond the Wheel, but sounded a bit more raw on most of the other songs so I don't think he would lipsync just one song. Don't forget, Chris is getting older, his voice is naturally deteriorating anyhow.
take notice. chris can pump out the lp vocals when he isnt playing his guitar at the same time. i used to think it was all the jack daniels that fucked him up but he has shown from the beginning that he isnt a multi tasker. once he starts riffing on the strings his vocals go down the crapper. you heard it here first.
Cornell's voice is absolutley awsome, but not in this song in this concert here....he is strugglling too hard to sing and get his voice out .....it's weak....something did not work out here whith the powerfull Cornell's high voice....
