You know why this song is awesome? Not just because it's a great song used as the credits of an amazing movie. It's because seeing the Avengers was the last thing I did with my best friend before he moved to California. (We still keep in near-constant contact) The song pretty much conjures up the memory of spending one last awesome summer afternoon with my best friend.

This song has new meaning after seeing Avengers Endgame.

There are a lot of celebrities out there than when they die, it doesn't really strike me as significant. It doesn't have an impact on my life. But hearing about the death of Chris Cornell hit me like a knife in the gut. And the longer I sit to think about it the closer I am to tears. Chris Cornell has had one of the biggest impacts on my music taste of any artist I've ever heard. For the longest time my music taste was limited strictly to 70's 80's era Rock. But it was Chris Cornell and his work with Soundgarden that ultimately introduced me to the sound of 90's grunge. Wether it is his work with Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, or even his solo work- he always brought something truly unique to the song. His song " You know my name " was the perfect opening to Casino Royale and set what was to be the tone for then entire Daniel Craig run as Bond. And the wonder and exhileration I felt hearing his vocals on Soundgardens " Live to Rise " at the end of my first viewing of the Avengers is a feeling that has lasted longer than even my thoughts on the film itself. The music industry has lost a modern Legend today- and there is going to be a hole in the radio that nobody else can fill or replace.

"We're insane but not alone/We hold and let go" - The gathering of heroes (the Avengers) in spite of their differences and isolating qualities (Hulk/Banner is lonely because of his insane ability); putting their faith blindly in one another and letting go in the hope of defeating their enemies. "Like the sun, we will live to rise/Like the sun, we will live and die, and then ignite again" - refers to The Infinity War, where all the heroes are defeated and half the universe is killed, until the effects are reversed. Also refers to Thor's resurrection after being united with Stormbreaker having more or less died from taking the full force of Nidavellir. "What if the one thing that I missed/Was everything I need to pass the test?" - Possibly a nod to Iron Man's accidental creation of Ultron through miscalculation. Could be viewed as a reference to Hawkeye missing a target. Also alludes to Thor losing Mjolnir in Thor: Ragnarok. It also refers to Thanos having to sacrifice Gamora in order to gain the soul stone. "And if I fail, what happens then? Can I still count on you as a friend?" - refers to the conflict between Iron Man and Captain America in Civil War. Also refers to Thor and Loki's relationship, particularly during and after the events of Thor: Ragnarok. Could potentially apply to Iron Man and Doctor Strange; they started off on the wrong foot but grew to respect each other, and in the end Tony is left only to blindly put his trust in Strange's decision to surrender the time stone. "Warm my face/Warm your face." - The resurrection of the heroes of the universe after Nebula undoes the effects of the Infinity Gauntlet. Marvel have always been 50 steps ahead when it comes to planning out their stories. They obviously told Chris Cornell what they were intending to do ages before it transpired. Genius.

One of Chris Cornell's greatest underrated songs and so glad he reunited with Soundgarden to put together this awesome masterpiece! (RIP my friend) :'(

Okay, everyone is giving thier own spin on this song, so I will too. I like it. Its somewere in between Soundgarden and Audioslave. It is not either or both, but a comfortable transition stage. And it flows and it has a deep meaning.
