They were the best rock band of the 90s, and the best of grunge. Alice In Chains was cool because it had Layne Stanlley and today Jerry Cantrell can't hold it together, SoundGarden is one of those bands that with RARELY exceptions ALL the members are top level musicians, just like the Beatles or PinkFloyd, where all the members were talented and multifaceted. The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.

1992 i was 17 years old it was one of the best years of my life i still have great memories of those golden times. Alice in Chains and Soundgarden the best bands of that time but the media choice was Nirvana. Great injustice with AIC and Soundgarden.

Vinter Sorg....Dude come on...I was 20 in 1992...I was a huge Nirvana fan...I also love Soundgarden and like a lot of AIC...but there was no "great injustice" done to Soundgarden or AIC....both bands got critical acclaim, huge fanbases and sold tons of records. Great injustice is bands like Mudhoney or the Melvins never making it huge, while Billy Ray Cyrus does. The media choice was actually Pearl Jam. Nirvana got the most attention because they were the first to break through, had the catchiest tunes and because Kurt was such a presence. They deserved that attention. Soundgarden has and always has gotten a lot of respect, especially by Nirvana fans like me. Nirvana and the guys in Soundgarden were friends, the guys in Soundgarden respected them and were completely blown away when suddenly Nirvana made it through. The attention and glare that Nirvana brought to the genre benefited Soundgarden, AIC and all the other Seattle bands, not to mention alternative music in general and thank goodness for that, since i was pretty damn sick of Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer.
@NARKISDUDE
@NARKISDUDE 10 лет назад
I think its all about what the band did to expose themselves more. nirvana and pearl jam both probably contacted MTV to do the unplugged show that year, and SG perhaps didn't yet want that exposure, or MTV thought their sound is too heavy. it's sad, but MTV has a say on what kids/people will like.
@USCFlash
@USCFlash 10 лет назад
NARKISDUDE Well let's not say Nirvana "contacted" MTV to do MTV Unplugged...in fact, the relationship between Nirvana and MTV was in the toilet because Nirvana was furious at MTV because of their behavior. Nirvana did not want to go to the MTV Video music Awards that September (1993) and MTV threatened them by saying not that they would never play Nirvana videos again, but that MTV would never play *ANY* videos by other groups that Nirvana's management, Gold Mountain represented... MTV's behavior was despicable.
@NARKISDUDE
@NARKISDUDE 10 лет назад
tnx for the info, now I hate these mo'fuckers even more (MTV) other than that, my point was that it's good publicity you know, to have lots of music videos etc., even if it means selling out and at times shorten the length of the song because THEY think its too long. unless you're Justin Timberlake and in that case a 10 minute video is peachy(: ...

So great! I remember seeing them at Lollapaloosa in 1992 Orlando FL, there was a small hurricane approaching FL we thought the concert might cancel, but it went on. When Soundgarden came on, they were on the second stage (outdoor) and the Tropical Storm force winds were coming from directly behind the stage, blowing all their hair straight at us and with the gray menace of clouds behind them and wind blowing through them and toward us, it felt like we were all being pulled into some kind of vortex, pulling us in with Soundgarden ROCKING us all the way. It was AMAZING. It was a great time to be alive :-) Yeah!

***** Yeah, they got Matt Chamberlain for all the tour dates this year. It's hard, Soundgarden are touring right now to support the 20th anniversary of Superunknown, but Pearl Jam are touring for their new album, and they both are pretty heavy tours that would probably be logistically and physically impossible to coordinate, so Matt chose to go with PJ.
@acarlovonsexron1994
@acarlovonsexron1994 10 лет назад
***** I don't know if you're a drummer or not, but a Soundgarden/Pearl Jam/Temple of the Dog tour would absolutely murder him. He's 50 years old now, and it's not like he's playing smooth jazz or anything, it's hard rock and it's very tiring to play an hour long set, let alone a 3 hour long set. With two different bands.
@acarlovonsexron1994
@acarlovonsexron1994 10 лет назад
***** Nothing like that, I don't think he likes one band more than the other, he still played with Soundgarden at the two shows this year where they played Superunknown in full and on the Tonight Show, he just can't do both at the same time. He also cited his decision on wanting to still have time available with his family as well.
