I used those window insulating kits when I rented in college. When you don't want to pay much and can't make permanent changes to the property. Of course I was using it as a thermal barrier, not sound deadening. I'd also suggest adding storm windows for older homes with single pane glass for both some thermal and sound barrier.

I bought a condo recently that I'm beginning to regret buying. The amount of noise from the traffic is so annoying. When I first saw this place it was on the weekend when it was relatively quiet. Now that I'm actually living here I can't believe the amount of traffic noise during the daytime throughout the week. Thank God the bedroom doesn't face the street which gives me some peace of mind. I will definitely take your advice about getting triple paned windows. Thank you very much for posting this video.

Do you have any recommendations for angle (gambrel) ceilings? We have a room that has two angled ceilings that we once saw someone cover one of the angles to help with what we believe is echo. We are looking for a product or a DIY solution to try and replicate. I have a pic of a model home I can share.

I’ve been going on a bit of a binge of your content thanks to construction noises, thinking my best options are acoustic caulk for gaps in the window frames, “sound proof” curtains from ikea (‘they’re transparent and work as sheers as well) then on top of that, blockout curtains, but debating if maybe a moving blanket might work a bit better. Looks aren’t an issue, I just care about blocking as much sound as I can. Was even considering using polyester batts (not rockwall batts due to mess) ikea made some tips for using polyester, or whatever it is that goes in pillows and blankets, and if I can get some batts, theoretically that would be similar? I could then slip those batts into a bedsheet. I heard you mentioning acoustic caulk. Can you typically apply it, then peel it off before moving house so you don’t upset the owner, or is it typically too permanent to peel away?

Hi there, I'm battling with vibration coming from the outside world. We live in a townhouse. The walls seem like paper. We share both sides and can hear everything. But the thing that is keeping me up is vibration and it seems two different wave sounds. In the bedroom, it feels like its coming at me from the window. U put your ear against the window u can hear it loud and clear. But also against the wall. I think it will help to address the window first. Do u think making a window insert will help for vibration noise? Thank u

Is there a way how to block it? I also hear SUBWOOFER from cars outside when someone in night are listening music. As I understand bass is making all the construction to shake so its almost impossible to block SUBWOOFER sounds and I just need to find new apartment.

Bass sound just travels through any continuity so, basically, you need to create a box inside a box, disconnected from eachother.

The problem with the window inserts is they're only as good as the amount of seal surface. If it's a rounded edge, there's just a thin strip of contact surface. Would be much better if it's got a flat edge for contact.

Thank you for the video! I work night shift and I have figured out a way to block the light out of my window using black posterboard and black duct tape but I live across the street from a fire station and a very busy street. I bought a roll of insulation like what they Look like bubble wrap in the illuminati on each side I think they actually use the same thing to put in windshield in the summertime to block the heat. I was wondering if that would help with sound. Thank you. Appreciate whatever you offer.

I live on a busyish road and the windows are useless. they are so bad we are having to replace them, should be early November 2022. I'll share what/if it makes any difference. Also we recently went abroad and the place we stayed had good soundproof windows plus solid wooden window shutters and these 2 combined made a big difference. Even when the window was open and the shutters closed it did a good job of blocking noise.

I need your help. I live between two international airports and a busy street 20 feet from my home that Has heavy traffic along with it a manhole cover that goes Thump thump each time a car drives over it which is often. My anxiety is off the charts and am having to wear noise cancelling headphones most of the time, which is not ideal. We spoke with an Indow Window rep after leaving 3 voice messages, which is another story. The thickest they make is 1/4 inch and takes 16 weeks to arrive. I won’t make it that long I’m afraid as my body is so battered by the continuous noise. We are older, so even researching all of this is not easy. We are going to be forced to make window inserts ourselves for a 10 foot by 5 foot window. How thick should the plexiglass be?

Thanks for the comment! I’m actually making an indow window review on an upcoming video (5-6 weeks away) so we’ll be able to see if and how well they actually work! You can wait for that or you can easily find laminated glass in your local area. They’ve ramped up sales for laminated glass because they are now used as dividers during the pandemic.

I've tried the note and even a face to face chat, but seems he is not willing to make any changes.. even keeping the dog inside would make a world of difference but it's outside all day and night and barks most of the time. hello i am building a window insert...I already build the frame. and i stuff with Rock wool insulation. However, I use the the vapor barrier to wrap the outside not fabric.. And i dont think my acoustic panel help alot.. is it because i need to use farbic to wrap outside??nor vapor barrier. because the window insert wont be able to absorb the sound,if i use the vapor barrier to wrap the frame.. like i see in your video you mention dont put the foil facing the window, otherwise it will deflect the sound.. And i still dont get it. how come such a thin plastic can deflect the sound???wont the sound just penetrate the plastic/foil and get absorb by the rock wool inside eventually, remember the sound can penetrate my window tho.. Lastly, Since changing the cover to fabric is so important, Can i just change the cover which facing the window only, so the sound can pass through from the window and leave the side with vapor barrier which facing the room
