Outstanding podcast. I'm a staunch Rangers fan however so much respect for Martin O'Neil who just oozes class and talks sense. Souness undoubtedly in my mind and in my lifetime brought me the most exciting times to follow Rangers. The mutual respect these 2 legends have for this Old Firm fixture should make any Rangers or Celtic supporter feel proud 👏. Well done lads getting these 2 on together more of this please. Next time Super Ally and Lennon please
I hated Souness when he came to Rangers. I was a 9 year old Celtic fan and he seemed like an absolute maniac. Actually, he was an absolute maniac 😂. But what he done for that wee lassie that was suffering that horrible disease put it into perspective. He didn’t just raise funds and awareness, he was prepared to throw himself into a real uncomfortable challenge because he understood how uncomfortable that poor wee lassie felt every day. If he’s a maniac then we probably need more like him.
@user-xc8pk2gf8w well said I argee with you I support Celtic have great respect for Souness also as a player yes he did well with Rangers enjoy listening to him
This is the best type of show. The two guests can talk for hours without the input of the hosts, maybe just a nudge and let them go. The two guests aren't shouting over each other or fighting to make a point. Could listen to both for hours and they could hold my interest. Great stories from both and could be a 4 hour show.
Celtic fan here and enjoyed listening to Souness. Could have listened to him and Martin talk for another 2 or 3 hours no problem. Great guests and kudos on the new podcast. Going for Celtic to win 2-0 on Sunday. 🍀
Brilliant viewing, both Souness and O'Neill are classy gentlemen, could listen to them for hours and they have great camaraderie and respect for each other. You can tell from Sam and Gordon's faces throughout that it must have been a pleasure to spend time in their company. O'Neill his typical witty, dry, erudite self and Souness always straight to the point, superb.
I had the Honour and privilege to work for the kindest, nicest man in football Martin O’Neill. He was and still is an absolute Gentleman. Thanks Gaffer for looking after me and taking care of me , through the best times in my life.
Loved this. 2 absolute legends. Fascinating pod cast. Had a lump in my through listening to the passion they both have for the game and their clubs 🫶 Miss those days. We just don’t the get characters and players like those mentioned in in our game anymore. 💙💚
Top interview guys. You probably weren't born when these two were playing/managing, but you did your research, asked good questions and simply let them converse with each other most of the time. 16k subs? Scandalous! Keep at it.
Two very successful Old Firm managers. A mutual respect which is nice to see. We need the away fans back at Celtic Park & Ibrox as they both said. I was lucky enough to follow Rangers when we got a lot of Old Firm victories including at Celtic Park. The biggest derby in the world. I remember Souness came on in the 5-1 game at Ibrox with 20mins to go and wanted to control the game rather than going for goals.
Both of these gents pure class ! Pity this wasn’t on for another hour , the mutual respect is abundantly clear and it was just a joy to watch and listen too ! I’m a Rangers fan but Martin O’Neil just oozes class and wit and Graeme and him are wonderful together !
Martin had Souness number. Remember the "Men against boys" Blackburn games they talk about here? Souness isn't the first Rangers manager who does the Celtic team talk for them - something Clement is still doing with his "moral victories"
Best content interview this season. Huge respect between these two guys came over. You can still sense the 'edge' between them but very professional. I'd like to hear them both in the same commentary box !
Excellent viewing. Two legends. Loved Souness for Liverpool and Scotland. Hated his guts at Rangers after his McLuskey tackle. I have mellowed greatly. Keep up the good work.
One of the best I've ever seen. Very well done (also nice seeing you yesterday Sam at County, should have mentioned Willie Miller was a few rows back behind us with the ones with the laptops etc).
Truly the best part about an often bad look for the biggest derby in world football is the gentlemen that old combatants become! Honestly never hated Souness as a player, manager or a man, but he was often difficult to like. That said, I respected then and now what he did for Rangers and Scottish football - a new dimension to a game that was struggling to find its place and relevance within the European landscape. Yes, he was bankrolled by the egotistical David Murray, but Souness was a top pro and carried himself like nobody could ever tell him otherwise. Actually love the arrogance and bombastic nature of a real hard man! Never expected MON to take the job at Parkhead because he appeared too principled for a club that was still recovering from a tumultuous period in its history. A cultured player that I watched win two European Cups in a Clough side that was better than most, but nowhere near as good as some that they played against. Learnt from a special leader, and brought all of that quality with him to Celtic. Built a team and a culture that we are still celebrating 20 years later - Celtic's dominance is multi-faceted, but for me comes down to MON, Larsson, and Fergus.
Let's use your logic, a channel about Scottish football, we have a guy who doesn't have Scottish heritage, and Englishman, an Irishman and a Scot, and the guy you attack is the Scot because of sectarianism. Grow up ya walloper!
Ive never had a problem with Graeme Souness... he's just a die hard ranger's fan that will stick up for his team. But if rangers dont win on sunday its probably Paul Pogbas fault. 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
The first ever Celtic game I went to was in 2000 and was O’Neils first home game and was a friendly against Bordeaux when Sutton got paraded at half time and even though it was my first game i can just remember you could feel a buzz about the place like everyone seemed to know there was going to be a power shift even though most people hadn’t heard of martin b4 he came but somehow we knew he was going to deliver 🍀🏆 and deliver he did
Well said Martin, credit where credit due... Souness changed the game up here!! Graeme Souness grabbed the Scottish game by the scruff of the neck and dragged us into the modern game!!
Nonsense talk tell that to Aberdeen and Dundee Utd ruined the game in Scotland more like . Plus English teams were banned in Europe at that time . Rangers were in the doldrums before souness and now there in a grave due to spending money that wasent there’s oot the game sold for a County Down u COUDNT make it up
Those Open Goal morons are insufferable. The type of guys you cross the road to avoid. Sam is an articulate guy, who knows when to just sit back and listen instead of being an irritating halfwit like Si Ferry.
The historical use of the ‘Old Firm’ trademark is a very viable business commodity which is in the interest of Celtic and the new Rangers club to continue to manage, regardless of the brand becoming clinically redundant in 2012. Celtic FC stated during that renewal process of the brand that Celtic are not half of anything, as much as the new Rangers club want them to be which that 2023 'This is the Old Firm' display at Ibrox confirmed, holding onto Celtics shirt tails was the term used. We can reflect on the memory of the old firm, and looking forward to future Glasgow Derby games.
Brilliant insights from O'Neill and Souness but the guests are only as good as their interviewers and I thought Gordon and Sam did a great job. Didn't talk over them, asked all the right questions, demonstrated a sound knowledge of football. Top quality stuff.
This was fantastic and totally loved the way these pair bounced off of each other, the dirty b*asters statement was hilarious and again credit to these pair what legends 🍀🏴
Great entertaining podcast, as the late great Jock Stein once said, football without fans is nothing, so come on Celtic & Rangers boards get your act and heads together and come up with a solution that proves yous really are the two biggest teams in Scotland, after all it is still the best derby game in the world, its time to set an example for the future of Scottish football by proving to the SFA that both clubs can get together and come up with a solution that will allow at least 5000 fans back in away games, after all the Celtic & Rangers away fans in the past have been what helped some of the smaller teams to survive, what chance have they got when trying to sign players when all they have got to look forward to are half empty stadiums.
Excellent listen 2 fantastic characters and both tremendous players and remember both European Cup Winners when u had to be Champions to get into it in the first place 👏 great episode guys
Enjoyed that more than I expected to - given the guests (wasn't a fan of either of them as players or managers). This show overall is becoming a 'must-watch' every week. I don't watch TV but I don't believe Scottish football coverage is likely to have improved any since I stopped watching and this is miles better than anything BBC/STV/SKY etc put out when I did watch TV.
Strangely because of the Transfer deadline and the champions league draw the build up for the upcoming Glasgow derby this Sunday has been very low key.
Two very strong personalities who each got the better of the other team in their time as Old Firm bosses. It'd be interesting to interview the opposite of that too - two guys who it didn't work out for.
Oneil going off to get 6 stitches in his leg and his manager telling the physio to hurry up because he needs to go back on. Oh how far football has fallen. The fuds of todays game would be out for 6 months.
Superb. I too wish that the away fans were allowed in again I feel that both of the clubs need to find a compromise. It’s the fans who are missing out .
two great characters, full of knowledge. Good to see Graeme talking football without that prick Jordan sniping at him trying to get a viral clip 😂and Martin is such an intelligent guy, with a great sense of humour..
