Dhoni won because of declining Ponting's team and new leadership vacuum at international level. Once other teams gained ground, even Dhoni lost the "touch" of winning. Post 2013 nothing. New zealand arose, Australia arose, england arose.

He made Sehwag as match winner, Yuvi the power hitter, Dhoni finisher, Kaif also a finisher. Irfan Pathan, Zaheer, Nehra, Harbhajan, Dravid as a wicket-keeper batsman. Dada was everywhere for the team. He didn't do any politics and never thrown away the seniors. He respected everyone.

Ganguly was instrumental in helping shape Indian talent which was evident in 2003 World Cup with only 2 losses against Australia while they completely outplayed NZL, ENG, PAK, SRL, ZIM. Before that since Ganguly became captain after 1999 debacle, after Azhar Jadeja were out, Sachin lost his captaincy too, we didn't win any major & lost mostly in the finals of the tournaments. But Kaif won us Natwest 2002 with Yuvraj, and saw us through the line even after Yuvraj got out, further cemented Ganguly's strategy of playing 7 batsmen with Kaif @ 7, he made Dravid keep gloves, which Dravid didn't like, but it indeed improved Dravid's one day game as a batsman. Plus he backed Zaheer, Sehwag, Harbhajan, even Agarkar, Nehra & the great Anil Kumble were in the mix speaks volumes of Ganguly's leadership ! Kaif also won us an improbable match vs Zimbabwe soon after Natwest with 111* in Champions Trophy. Loved his innings with Dravid. Excellent words by Kaif 👍👌

Indian cricket has two distinct eras, pre-Sourabh Ganguly and post-Sourabh Ganguly. In the first era it followed Gandhibad in overseas tours also. Sourabh perhaps the first captain who tried an on field role reversal.
