South Africa: Early Results Show Ramaphosa's ANC Losing Majority | Firstpost Africa
The counting of votes is underway in South Africa after a day of long queues at polling stations. The 2024 election in South Africa is being called the most competitive since the end of apartheid. Partial results are expected over the next three days with final results to be declared on June 2. So far, early results show the African National Congress losing the majority. This would be a first in South Africa's political sphere since 1994. In this case, President Cyril Ramaphosa could be forced to seek coalition partners if he is to be re-elected by parliament to form the government. The ANC could then patch up ties with one or both of the radical left parties led by former ANC figures: Julius Malema's Economic Freedom Fighters and former President Jacob Zuma's MK Party. Pres Ramaphosa, never had any beef with Zuma, but Zuma's the only with a very big and incompetent ego. Fabricating facts, why he was removed as pres, before his term ended as the country was burning. It's not about an individual , but importantly the party and voters. Tribalism and hatred put aside, whether they both like it or not, in this elections; coalitions are needed to govern. Parties should be discussion coalitions / alliances with big/ small parties, looking at the score- board , numbers don't lie , but they are indicators . Its not about Ramaphosa or Zuma to decide whether they will form alliances, it's all about the SA voters.❤

It is the least democratic system, since it ignores the wishes of up to 49% of voters. I suspect it was chosen to keep the slave abolitionist suppressed, and it worked for 85 years. In such a system almost half of the votes end up not translating into a voice in parliament. With the PR system, even a minority government still have to take into account the positions of other parties. So, in-effect you end up with far more than 50%+1 of voters having an influence on government. Another least democratic practice the USA follows is the presidential system. In this system you elect a dictator for a full term. This is because a simply majority in parliament can't remove a bad president through a simple vote of no-confidence. From a systems perspective South Africa is far more democratic than the USA.

MK must not gamble with voters. We voted for the MK cause we wanted to punish the anc. Coalition with the anc would be a waste of our votes. When they sent Msholozi to prison, we felt the pain. Let them feel the pain and pay for what they did.
