Over 90% of South Africa's reusable waste ends up in rubbish dumps. The Regenize start-up wants to increase recycling. It employs former informal waste collectors to pick up reusable trash, and rewards participating households with vouchers.

I moved to Cape Town in 2018 and was happy to see the recycling truck go by 1x a week. In Brazil they spend twice a week. But unfortunately they canceled everything and never resumed anything. It's been 3 years without recycling and without information. Trash tripped. I keep separating the garbage into different plastics as I've done for 30 years... But everything in the end is mixed. We tried to locate companies, public authorities, nothing, everyone informed that the services were suspended. The country loses, the environment loses, the South Africans lose in quality of life, economic progress and environmental protection. I am so sorry. We expect an organization with a sustainable strategy and implementation. So far, nothing...Hare Krishna 🙏🏻🌷🙏🏿

Place CCTV cameras to monitor who is dumping waste. However, there are so many alternatives which are 100% biodegradable as well as using your own containers to buy in bulk shops or at local farmer markets which is the best. Where there's a will there is a way!

It is unrealistic to put the responsibility on consumers to recycle. Most people who do recycle don't do it properly and still produce considerable trash. To get 100 percent sustainability, we must continue materials research and slowly put in laws which require manufacturers to use sustainable materials. Although this initiative is doing good, it is never going to have a tangible impact besides making people feel good about themselves.

Population needs to be in balance with jobs, resources, nature and the environment. Humans are crowding out all other species of plants and animals. They create more awareness of recycling and waste management than any municiality has ever done. These are essential workers who should be substituted by municipalities.
