Just looking at this clip I recognise the fireman on the leading engine as John Gilberthorpe. John went to SA in the early 70s just to work steam. He soon worked up to becoming one of the best known drivers of all SAR. I worked as his fireman for years and could not have asked for a better driver. We both worked out of Kimberley until the very end of steam in 1992. Sadly my great mate John is no longer with us but he will never be forgotten
