On the north bank of slaughter creek between escarpment Boulevard and MoPac is a trail appropriately named “Northbank”. Unlike “Southbank” on the other side of the creek, this is a beginner trail that is mostly flat. At just under three quarters of a mile long, it touches seven other trails, and it will take on average five minutes to get from one end to the other.
This trail offers plenty of shade along most of its length and minimal tree gates or tight turns. Although it is the easiest west/east route in this area of South Austin Trail Network, riders can still expect to find a skinny, a rock garden perfect for beginners, and a pair of g-outs crossing the creek and back if you don’t mind a quick detour and the Strava leaderboard hit that comes with it...
…not that you should be chasing KAY OH EMMS on mixed use trails, but I am also not your mother.
So, let’s saddle up and find out how good sight lines and smooth dirt can provide a flowy relief from the chunky, tight and twisting challenges that are common throughout the rest of the network.
