South Australia shanty song. It was sung in a variety of trades, including being used by the wool and wheat traders who worked the clipper ships between London-Hampshire and Australian ports.
So weird stumbling across this, my ancestry is from cornwall, apparently i have relatives still there,. Im in South Australia, adelaide not far from port adelaide,. Which has rich maritime history which family members worked in n myself am now an aqauculture technician, funny how the ocean connects us all. Love this song
I recently found out my grandfather made the trip from London to Port Adelaide on the Northern Monarch clipper ship in 1876 id like to think at some point in the voyage this song was sung And over 100 years later its still around for those who decents whos family had migrated all those years ago.
It was one of my favourite moments of the whole day too! I can't believe it was so many years ago now. I've loved this shanty song since I was a kid. And this is such a hearty and joyful rendition -- perfect setting, the rain, everything! Love it and love these guys. Thanks for uploading it, too.
