South Branch Middle Fork Zumbro River 6 14 2024 Oxbow Park to Cty Rd 3 

This section of the South Branch Middle Fork Zumbro is from Oxbow Park just north of Byron to County Rd 3. This is a very winding section with tall dirt banks along much of this route. It also has excellent tree canopy, but with that comes the very real possibility of debris, strainers and log jams so be prepared to portage. Fortunately, there was some maneuvering but no major issues. In 2022 the road into Oxbow was rerouted and the DNR Landing was eliminated. The best place to launch is on your right just as you come into the main picnic area with shelters or under the pedestrian bridge. Thanks to recent rains the river was flowing higher and faster than normal. County Hwy 14 would be a difficult take out but could be doable under the bridge right. There is limited shoulder parking there also. The take out at County Rd 3 is on the left just before the bridge, this can be very tricky in high water as shown in the video.
