A ride from Yellowstone National Park to Custer State Park in South Dakota on the Yamaha FJR1300. The Needles Highway and Needles Eye Tunnel and the Black Hills Area.
I took a motorcycle camping trip out that way with a buddy about 4 years ago. We rode 2500 miles in 5 days, straight through Cody and Yellowstone. Same roads you were on, opposite direction. Great video, I can remember it like it was yesterday!!
I just love your videos John. The tranquility of them. Your narrative is laid back, and both informative and amusing. The photography stunning! Keep up the good work.
Ozarks Backroads yea i have rode my black 06 all over. Gunna be taking my green zx14r this time. Not sure where in Missouri you are at but your welcome to go on some trips with us. I’m in far southern Iowa just off i35
I'm seriously considering a second gen FJR. Great vlog, very informative and interesting. Great landscape and vistas and, of course the is not any better way to go than 2 wheels.
I'm Late too the show here! Just completed a 5 state tour from WA, MT, WY, SD and ID July 2019. We rode some of the same roads that you did! To include, Mt. Rushmore, Needles, Custer State Park, Iron Mountain Road, Spearfish, Canyon, etc...Great video my friend!...Enjoyed seeing some of the sites that you enjoyed! BTW...You and your video logs were the inspiration for this particular trip...Thanks, and I am originally from Mississippi, so I really enjoyed the accent...Oh, and I also ride an FJR! (Mike J)
Greetings from Australia 🇦🇺 mate.. great video.. couldn’t believe you drove all that way to see some fog. Cruel.. not to worry, thoroughly enjoyed the video . I’ve got the BMW S1000XR, but this FJR1300 looks like a sublime machine.. great video mate. Enjoyed it
Thank You, great tour, Sry you didn't get to see the president's.I have yet to get out there,Yellowstone, etc.I'm in CA. My FJR-1300 2005 engine/frame with 2007 complete body, The Best touring bike for me. Love it. The newer six speed/cruise control would be nice, but $17000 is a bit much just to upgrade. I got mine for $3400. Had 32,000 now 44,000 miles, runs perfect. My buds at work are,I think, missing out on their Harley's (COOL) but FJR has (Ultra Performance).I made my own Cruise control (Machinist) and if you were to ride 300+ miles in a day , You would want some kind of Cruise c setup.I did 2600 miles, six days, My hand would have died without it.
I would love to see what kind of highway pegs you have installed...I have T-Rex-Racing Frame Sliders and I am looking for ideas to install Pegs on them without interfering with the frames in case of a slide... I need Pegs for my 2017 to help me with my back and leg circulation during long rides like your videos...Nice view of these United States....This country is almost as big as the continent of AUSTRALIA... Btw-Please wear some ankle and sleeve protection...Skin does not grow back!
Was out in Custer (on my FJR) and visited some of the other places in this video! Question: Do have any problems travelling by yourself? I'm getting kinda old and wary of travelling by myself.
good to hear from you sir... I prefer to travel alone it is just much easier that way for me but not everyone is that way... to each his own... thanks sir...... :)
Hey there Karl, I have the Givi Maxia-4 V56 case on the FJR. I use the V47 on my Versys 1000. I have been using the Givi top cases for several years now and have never had any issues with them. For video editing I use Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe Light Room for my photo editing....hope that helps.... thanks for the comments..... ride safe sir... :)
Hello there sir, I think I was using a Sony FDR-X3000 mounted on my helmet with a lapel mic in my helmet and my hand held camera was a Panasonic FZ2500 with a rode micro on top... thanks... keep safe... :)
When you're just burning down the freeway, like across Kansas, what are you getting for mileage and range? I'm giving strong consideration to selling my cruiser and getting an FJR. Thanks. Keep the great videos coming.
hey there sir, the FJR will get in the low to mid 40's but has a 6.5 gallon fuel tank so I usually try to fill up at around 200 to 230 miles. It looks like 2020 may be the last year for the FJR so if your after a new one this is your year.... thanks sir... :)
Buy an FJR, 2007 or later(Ultra Performance) at 30,000 miles Throw a new rear shock Yss Heavy spring $337 and rebuild forks $150-$200, and if you want to spend the cash, the 2016+ six speed with factory cruise is soooo perfect. You will Love the bike.Factory top box is quite a bit bigger than Givi, Yamaha $600+ ouch!!! Your helmet can fit in all 3 factory cases but not the Givi, I believe? The wife/etc. will feel safer with factory box also, if you want your lady Happy ? 2005(cheap deals) an older don't have all the great improvements but still a great bike.
hey there Gyula, Yes you can rent a bike in the larger cites and ride out to this area. Probably in Denver Colorado you could find bikes for rent... Thanks Sir.... :)
Hello there, I shoot video off the bike with Sony FDR-X3000 acrion cameras and hand held Video and pictures are shot with the Panasonic Lumix FZ2500.....thanks.... :)
So sad that you had fog for Needles and Iron Mountain. You missed some great views of Mt. Rushmore framed by the tunnels. Honestly you missed the best moments of the ride. You need to go back. Love my FJR.
Hello there sir... good to hear from you... Yes it was unfortunate that the weather did not cooperate with me on that trip. I had planned on going back to Custer this last season but I have elected to stay out of National Parks for a while until the craziness settles down a bit. I will make it back to get the full experience... thanks for watching and keeps safe out there... :)
Hello Jim, my first FJR was a 2008 I purchased new so I guess I have been on them for ten seasons now. They are very comfortable for long trips but I do pull the bars back on my bikes to give me a more upright riding position. I have no trouble riding 11 or 12 hours a day when traveling. The cruise control makes the long days possible for me.... Thanks... Jon Smith
Is somebody going to talk about the bikes?...... Half a dozen videos and people just keep running their mouths about what their doing and where their going. who gives a shit!
