South Elgin: 1984 

Amazing video. I was four years old when this was filmed. I just sold the “Corda’s” house at 600 Elizabeth after living there for the last six years. This is the house with what looks like a garage sale in the driveway at the very end. I heard so many stories of the neighborhood from Nancy next door. This video was literally a daily drive for me for the last six years. Right to MY HOUSE! It’s like a time machine! Thank you for sharing. I did my best to take very good care or that house, and I will never forget the neighbors on Elizabeth Street. It’s a great neighborhood even today.

I feel like I just time travelled back to the year I was born in a area I grew up in. There was nothing around compared to today. Some places are still there and some aren’t anymore. Amazing video!!!

I moved to south elgin in 1984. I lived on east middle street. I've been in Florida for 23 years and have to say this is how I remember most of it. The population was 8000 when I was there. Awsome video.

Great video which brings lots of memories. Why did your grandparents decide to make the video? Did they have a new camera they wanted to try out? Question #2. What is that big brown building at the intersection of Hopps and McLean? I don't remember it and picture is too blurry to read sign when I pause video. Of course, hindsight is 20/20. But I would have liked to have seen a ride north on McLean into Elgin past Rt. 20 to see Tastee/Corns Freeze, Eagle supermarket and whatever was still there. Would be cool if somebody had that. But I like this video too.

Downtown Elgin was awesome.. And to see it now, what a freaking Shame.. Now, it's ghetto.
