Not only in South Korea. We face racism in our own India.

I'm from TN and I live in Seoul. I'm an English teacher there. It's true that there's racism in Korea. I have an African colleague and I've also seen my kindergarten kids asking me why is she black, why am I brown and all such questions. But I'm positive that they're so curious to actually know people's different colors and not in a negative way. I teach them about this immediately like how different geographic regions around the world and also how the genes are responsible for a person's color and it's absoultely fine and should be acceptable with any colored people. It's so shocking to see that among all the other teachers at my school, they love me the most and even treat me as their best friend - one of them even confessed that he loves me more than his mom. So from their perspective, they obviously see and choose a heart of a person and not their color. This is where we adults should take care in what we speak and interact with them. I'm impressed that they could understand this according to their level but it's the duty of the parents and teachers to teach them properly to avoid future conflictions. Personally, I've never experienced racism there. Most of the people are so kind and generous and they actually love Indians - our culture and food. They're so curious to know about our different cultural behaviors, climatic changes, language, etc. To be honest, many people have even truly complimented about my look and face, especially they say that my eyes are beautiful which I mostly haven't heard from Indians - may be because Koreans love bright and bigger eyes, we have double eyelids but they don't. My Korean colleagues and many of my Korean church mates love the fact that I'm an Indian and love Indian stuff. They all support me as much as they can and I'm very glad and grateful about it. Also about the make up thing, its damn true that even some Koreans expect their own people to look good. One of my colleagues shared her story about her previous job where her manager lady insisted her to wear make up because she thinks that without make up, people wouldn't be pleased to see them. I personally don't wear make up for myself but still haven't asked by any Koreans about it. They simply like the natural look on Indians (don't know about others though). So, I think the future generations would come to know better and treat people better. Let's hope for the best!!

I had a colleague from Delhi years back, N. Setpal with a Filipina wife, he used to mock at dark-skinned people. I asked him why, he said he feels disgusting to see that color. So, we cannot blame a country, it's individual issue and unfortunately, India has few people such people and Korea has more.

My husband worked for KIA motors for 2 yrs, they had the worst work culture as well. We lived there in Penukonda, Anantapur, and yeah it's always there .. they don't allow Indians inside restaurants mainly. All super pricy and smells pungent. However we didn't face any issue with korean retail shops like Seoul and few more.

I have worked for Samsung and stayed in South Korea for 1 year. There are people in both ends of the spectrum there. Some are very kind. For example it was the first day and me and my friend lost track of the way to our hotel. We just had the address with us. We asked a person and he walked 2 blocks with us and got us back to the hotel. I became close friend with a Korean person in office. He used to help me all the time. When I left, he even arranged a party for the entire team out of his own pocket. I witnessed some experiences on the other spectrum too. A senior person in office complained that Indians had a bad odor and it became a big issue in office and he was given warning.

Where ever indian goes most of the countries don’t treat properly. Only in Japan majority of the Japanese almost 95% of them treat us very kindly. They have great respect to us. Because of our contribution towards Math and spiritual practice

Hi Madan, just wanted to clarify something. Me and my husband just returned from Seoul 2 weeks back. This is not the situation which you have mentioned in the video. I agree it was earlier months and months but not now. We literally travelled in busses and metro trians many shopping centers, it was all normal. The ppl might not be too friendly like thai or any other country, the reason is they dont know English as thr govt supports thr language more than English. They know Japanese Chinese and korean. But sure thing this is not a situation thr. Such a lovely country it was. Our best trip ever.

I have myself felt this in Vienna Austria. I use to go with full firmal suit to office in Tram but locals dont come and sit near us. We were not allowed in certain pubs stating that we were singles but they allowed white singles inside. When you launch a complaint police say that property is private and they hold the right to allow who they want.

Bro this is not something new but all the seamen’s know about this for almost 10 plus years. They don’t allow us inside the pubs and the reason is skin color and also due to the issues some of us create after drinking. But restaurants we had no issues until now.

I have faced this issue with Chinese and even with North Indians. They see our colors if we are in dark brown or black color then they think we are not equal to them. I used to think multiple times why people wear this racist color glass 😢.

I was there about 45 days last September and find they give good respect, but I went to one Barber shop to cut my hair but refused that lady. No men cutting hair all ladies only. You are correct that they dont like our skin color. But I worked 6 days there with a rich man and found no problem from him and offered many dinners, lunch. Thanks to Mr.Kim
