Took us a long time to get this ready for today, it kept getting blocked but finally we got this version; sadly it's no monetized and we really don't care at all. Love this movie and it was probably the most fun we've had with a reaction yet! :)
“Have you ever heard of the Emancipation Proclamation?”. “I don’t listen to hip hop” is honestly one of the funniest jokes ever. I laugh every single time I hear it
"Uncle F***er" won an MTV Movie Award, and "Blame Canada" actually got nominated for an Oscar. And the creators of South Park later made a Broadway musical, "The Book of Mormon".
Still blows my mind to this day how “Blame Canada” was nominated for a Best Original Song Oscar with Trey Parker & Matt Stone wearing dresses and tripping on acid while watching Robin Williams performing their song at the Academy Awards that year
The "Horrific violence is okay as long as no one says any naughty words" thing was how my mom actually felt. I wanted to see a movie that was rated R, and I actually got permission after telling her it was just rated R for violence. 😂
One of the greatest animated movies of all time! Watched it so many times on VHS as a kid! Took away my innocence and got me to start cursing! A movie with exactly 399 curse words because 400 or higher would get a nc-17 rating!
P. S it's the originals shell's last project along with scooby-dooand and the witch ghost, with 6-8 movies including these two scooby- doo and south park as Mary kay bergman died from self - inflicted gunshots on 11th November 1999
Stephen Sondheim, who’s pretty much the greatest musical theatre composer of all-time, actually wrote a letter to Trey Parker and Matt Stone congratulating them and praising the movie. So yeah. One of the greatest musicals ever.
@@elcorado83 It's a legit excellent musical, and a really good one for people who aren't into musicals, but I feel like this is coming from someone who's only seen, like, their high school's production of Footloose or something and no other musicals
Fun facts: • In the Guinness World Records 2001, this film was said to have the most profanity used in an animated film. The book cited a total of 399 swear words, including 146 uses of the word "f***," along with 199 offensive gestures and 221 acts of violence. This movie was the highest-grossing R-rated animated film until Sausage Party (2016) outgrossed it seventeen years later. This film originally had an NC-17 rating. • if y’all already knew, George Clooney was the voice of the doctor in the movie. • When the children are in rehab a poster in the back of Mr. Mackey's room reads, "Get High!!! On Pottery," which was a quote from a high school teacher of Matt Stone's. The original quote was, "Son, you need to know not to use pot as a natural high. Instead of getting high with pot, get high with pottery." • In the credits both Saddam Hussein (Matt Stone) and Satan (Trey Parker) are listed as playing themselves. • Trey Parker and Matt Stone did not need to get Brian Boitano's permission to use his name and likeness for the song "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" A few years later Boitano did need to get, and received, Parker and Stone's permission to use the phrase on T-shirts that he sold for charity. • James Hetfield of Metallica sings "Hell Isn't Good." • The song "Blame Canada" was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, but it lost to Phil Collins' "You'll Be In My Heart" (from Tarzan (1999)). In return, Trey Parker and Matt Stone ridiculed Collins in the fourth season of South Park (2000). • Tweek was the only series regular not to appear in this film at all. Cartman calls "The Mole" (the French boy) British. On the TV show, he called Pip (the English boy) French. • This film marked the first time in the entire series that Kenny is seen without his hood on. • When Kenny uncovers his face at the end and says "goodbye you guys" the voice of Kenny is portrayed by Mike Judge, the creator of Beavis and Butt-Head. Isaac Hayes, the voice of Chef on South Park, had previously sang the opening credits theme music to Beavis and Butt-Head Do America.
Also the film was made with the intention this would be the Finale of the show. Also because of the work on this movie Matt and Trey have no memory of working on season 3 (which came out the same year as the movie)
YES!! This received the NC-17 rating for the strong graphic language throughout, yet the producers had to cut some swears to obtain an R Rating. It was nominated for Best Original Song, "Blame Canada."
Actually not completely accurate. The South Park movie got an NC-17 a total of 6 times. Each time Matt and Trey were told to remove something, they replaced it with something worse out of spite. After the 5th or 6th time the MPAA rated it NC-17, the marketing agent from Paramount called Parker and Stone saying they "NEEDED" an R rating. Stone called producer Scott Rudin who then called a Paramount executive and freaked out on them. Magically, the rating was lowered to R the very next day (MPAA I think caved to Paramount freaking out at them with possible threats, although that is speculation on my part). There is an entire section on the movie's Wikipedia page under "Release" that goes into a lot more detail. Stone and Trey go into more detail at how stupid the MPAA's logic of only caring about words said. MPAA is basically a censorsip organization, nothing more. MPAA was basically trying to find anyway to silence Matt and Trey after they gave their previous movie Orgasmo an NC-17 and they were pissed at that one. Another fun fact, MPAA also gave Team America: World Police an NC-17 at first. Aftering cutting many scenes, the MPAA would be pleased they got to butcher a film and gave it an R rating after that. Back then, they gave some very stupid guidelines saying over 400 swear words would be NC-17 so they have 399 for this movie.
The MPAA and ESRB are so ridiculous Their NC-17 and AO ratings are unnecessary and kills any piece of media, and that affects the entire world even tho everybody else has other rating organisations There shouldn't be an adult rating and an "adulter" rating
Fun fact: This was originally supposed to be the series' finale, since Trey and Matt feared the series would get cancelled. So, in this film, they decided to go out with everything in a musical mode. Luckily, the film was successful enough to put the series back on its feet. Now it has more than 20 seasons.
Speaking as someone who's a lifelong fan of musicals: you're 100% right that this is one of the best of all time! The lyrics are clever and hilarious, the songs cover a ton of different styles, and the music itself is just catchy as hell. Great reactions!
4:30 it was a once in a lifetime experience to watch this IRL while people were walking out of the theater like in the movie, I was 14 and my dad was loud AF laughing at that song and the rest of the movie
I love how you highlighted the devils sick vocal, many reactions leave it out. That high pitch wail is one of my favorite parts because it’s so unexpected
My mom and I went to see this movie when it first came out and we were laughing so hard at "Uncle Fu**er" that we were holding onto each other because we couldn't breath. An epic, masterpiece that can still make me laugh to this day.
The scene with the music video ripping off the puff daddy video was top notch. When they said “I thought I told you that we won’t stop” it had me dying the first time I saw it.
18:50 Unfortunately, the song "Up There" tends to be overlooked way too often when this movie is brought up. I think it's actually the best song in the entire movie. Trey Parker really goes all in on it. He's got some nice pipes on him.
People severely underrate the music in this video. "Blame Canada" was actually nominated for an Oscar, and Robin Williams sang an except of it during the awards show. Book of Mormon has great tunes too, and there's even a cool song in "Basketball." Trey Stone has TALENT.
I saw this in the theater one afternoon and was laughing so hard during "Uncle F**ker" and some guy actually did get up and walk out! I then showed this to my mom and she almost died during "Kyle's Mom is a B*tch"...she laughed as hard as you guys! I forgot how funny this was
Back in 2010, I was flipping channels and found "What Would Brian Boitano Make" on Food Network. Brian actually had this cooking show and a cookbook for sale...true Legend.
Y'all never heard of the V-chip? Damn. V-chip is a technology used in television set receivers in Canada, Mexico, Brazil, and the United States that allows the blocking of programs based on their ratings category. It is intended for use by parents to manage their children's television intake.
There's only one musical crazier than this... The Rocky Horror Picture Show I would give anything for you two to watch it, name your price. It will scar your minds.
I saw the movie in theaters with my twin brother and my uncle. I called him uncle fucka afterwards. We laughed harder than that in the whole room. lol 99 was a great year
I love that they got Eric Idle to do a cameo. Matt and Trey said that Monty Python was the show they both had to sneak downstairs to watch (their parents wouldn't let them as occasionally you'd see titties)
I was literally just talking with my coworker today about how much I love this movie! It has one of the best soundtracks ever and one of the most hilarious movies I've ever seen. It's so dang good.
I saw this movie TWICE in the cinema and both times the entire cinema CHEERED when Bil Gates got shot. :D Here's a recommendation. South Park creators made a live action movie before they did the tv show called Cannibal The Musical. And it's probably the best western horror comedy musical (based on a true story) that was ever made and I wish more people knew about it but I guess it being really low budget makes people skip it. Anyway, WORTH THE WATCH. SHPADOINKLE!
@@Triple-Four Then you must've seen those movies for the first time as an adult because there's no convincing anyone that you disliked them as a child. Don't even try it.
Fun Fact: The song Blame Canada was performed by Robin Williams at the Oscars ( you can find it on RU-vid ) The song was also nominated for an Oscar for best original song but lost to Phil Collins' 'You'll Be in My Heart' from Disney's Tarzan
South Park is one of the best things ever created. Ever! It just gets better and better with age. Lifelong fan since it first aired in 1997. I remember watching it when I was 9 and staying up to watch it at 10pm on Comedy Central. It will forever be a part of my life.
You have to check out one of Matt and Trey's other musicals, Cannibal The Musical. The songs in that one are equally as catchy and fun and the movie is hilarious!!
When South Park came out, I was on some crappy cable system that didn't have Comedy Central. Everyone was talking about every new episode, but my first exposure to the gang was this movie. Definately a great introduction.
This is seriously one of my favorite movies ever. The music is EPIC! I remember i was 14. I rented it at Blockbuster and watched it by myself. I was laughing so hard. The next night my mom wanted to make sure it was ok for me to watch so we watched it together. That was….something. We made it to the cafeteria scene where Cartman and Kyle are insulting each other in front of Chef and she shut it off and told me i couldn’t watch South Park anymore. Trust me, that didn’t work because i watched it more lol!
This and Team America have to be my favorite comedies. Both are also the only times where they'll have musical songs that are actually funny and great. I highly recommend you guys check out Team America as well is you want a hilarious follow up to this movie.
When you said Satan had the voice of an angel, that makes sense because he was a fallen angle. I remember seeing this movie in theaters when I was definitely was too young. I was kind of like the boys in the movie seeing the T and P movie. The movie was great then and still holds up today.
We watched this as little kids when it came out and it was the best thing ever. Watching again as an adult and I see how many jokes went over my head 😂
Man, i love this movie. I got to see it when i was like 10, on a borrowed VHS that my friend got because he had a cool older bro who was old enough to get it for us.
"land of the free, indeed" i saw this movie at 13, it's been 21 years (i wasn't old enough to watch this when it came out) and i still think about that line almost daily.
Remember that the creators of South Park wrote a Broadway play called The Book of Mormon, that won NINE Tony Awards. The music in this movie slaps so hard. Blame Canada was nominated for a best original song Oscar and didn't win. One of the ironic things about this movie is that parents took their kids to it not knowing what it was or doing research. They left really fast and then complained, when it's on the parents to know what they were getting into. The movie was literally is making fun of them at times. haha
This movie got an Oscar nomination for "Best Music, Original Song" for "Blame Canada;" it also won a CFCA Award for "Best Original Score," and got a bunch of other awards and nominations both for its music and for being a great animated film.
I saw this when it came out, got the dvd and soundtrack and watched and listened to it so much but its been a long time since ive seen it. Never forgot the Blame Canada song. I wanted to see reactions and when u guys came up I clicked so fast. I knew u guys would love this and your reactions would be fire
Sorry if someone already said this, but there’s a live concert of South Park music with most of these songs on Paramount Plus. Surprisingly the creators play the instruments too. It’s a the Red Rocks venue. And they have projections of the cartoons on the rocks with little bits between songs
My mom and I LOVE this movie. I was like 10 years old when this came out but my mom would let me watch South Park. Its the only explicit show she would let me watch as a kid 😂😂😂😂. We would get snacks together when it would come on tv. It was a whole event lol.
Guys. V-Chip was an actual thing back in 1999. They were sticking them in TVs. Parents could activate them to block out shows or channels they didn't want their kids to watch. Parental Lock replaced them because they were totally useless. Kids would just unplug the TV for 10 minutes and reset them. They did absolutely nothing.
The joke about a person spending the night with the other and one putting their wiener in the other ones mouth has been used twice in all of south park, in this movie, where Terrence and Phillip say it, and in the episode where Eric does that to Butters.. I'm starting to think Matt and Trey did this in real life.
True story, 19 when it came out and me and the GF went opening night.. packed show.....when Uncle F@cker song comes on there is a shot of people leaving the theatre in the movie....Legit, half the audiance in the theater got up and left during the song, i was crying....people forget how unheard of a movie like this was at the time
