Yep. Welcome to American high school soccer. Although my schools team(I was apart of it) didn’t often do that. Most schools in the area didn’t. Some do it just because they don’t want possession first, and they want to give their team time to properly shape up and ready themselves.

Plus we do it so that we can establish a press and hopefully catch them with their pants down so close to the goal

Its never to late. commitment will take u farther than talent im also 15 and i was never good until last year when i gave it my all. So just go all in and it will be tough but as long as you stay committed you will come out on top.
