Part 1 of a fantastic trip to Texas back in 2023 with ‪@PopMilk‬! We find a lot of very cool snakes, including several species new to the channel! We also met up with our friend Clint to check out some cool endemic amphibians.

This herping is very unique with this change to more tropical species and all those new species. Nice whipsnakes, coachwhip, Texas tortoise, newt, tarantula and microhylid symbiosis and cacti. This symbiotic relationship has been noted among different tarantula and microhylid species around the world. Also we want more botany collaborations.

Some really cool snakes this episode Noah! And a native newt in the thorn scrub? how is that even a thing? I had no idea. Also...Did you plan to meet Joey while exploring the thorn scrub or was that accidental?? I mean... its totally believable that it was accidental because he has a bit of a reputation for loitering and yelling at plants in south Texas thorn scrub while he laments the region's on going ecological demise... if that was actually random it is hilarious that is how we get the first NKFherping and Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't crossover... more of these please... you'll just have to bleep Joey sometimes.

Adding to my desperate need to make a spring South Texas trip happen...I've only ever gotten hands on one live whipsnake in my life (only a few months ago) and it was beautiful, would love to film the other species soon. Was completely unaware about newts in that region too (I'm sure the field guide I have mentions them, but I've glossed past it).

@@chetchurchill9524 Yes, they are in the hill country. I almost caught a 6 footer crossing a road about 10 miles south of Bandera, Texas. It quickly crawled under a 6’ fence before I could grasp it.
