One of our favorite things to do is to taste local foods so in this video we do just that. We receive a number of recommendations from our host and decided to go out and taste the South Tyrol food and wine on offer. We start with a tour and wine tasting at the sister property of our accommodations, Prackfolerhof. This family run estate has a long history, once providing wine to the owner of the castle of Prosels right next-door to our accommodations. It's amazing this high up in the mountains and as far north as we are they are still able to produce very tasty wines. The wine varietals are somewhat similar to what is being produced in Austria and Germany.
From here we move on to Fronthof, this is an absolutely amazing concept and experience. Fronthof is a true farm to table restaurant where everything they serve is home made and grown. The Italian government (as does the German one) has a special business license for these kind of farms. So long as they only sell what they produce on their land, this is a much easier path to opening up a restaurant. Fronthof is only open on Tuesdays through Thursdays but it's 100% worth a visit. We enjoy some 'speck' (smoked meats of various kinds), drink some of the Fronthof wine and have some pasta that is out of this world. If we are ever in the area again, we are certainly coming back.
