Great video. I used to go to Southend most weekends with mum and dad when I was a kid (over 50 years ago). It looks so very different now. Thanks for posting. 😁😁😁
Thanks for this WW. Southend is my home town. If anyone is interested the green domed buildings at 5.00 & 5.50 were part of the original Odeon cinema. The Beatles and Laurel & Hardy performed there back in the day.
@@StennMathis Like every other high street, Southend has it's quota of closed shops and business and parts of the town are run down. However balance that against a growing and lively arts scene, an historical quarter off the seafront, great beaches, lovely countryside, an ancient woodland (Hockley) just 20 mins drive away. Oh and it's a University City with a campus for the University of Essex. It was granted City status a few months ago. Off now to apply for a job with Southend's tourist dept...
@@johnmh1000 Cool. Barking boy who spent a ton of time out in essex proper from infancy onwards lost in London and looking to fk off back out to Essex. Cheers for that mate and best of luck with your application.
Makes me want to move, Southend used to be such a lovely place now it looks dirty, litter filled and unkept but it’s nice seeing people having fun and enjoying it and it’s a great video
I really enjoyed this walk... I've never been to Southend, so very interesting to see it in more detail.😎 Last year I didn't get to the beach because most of the toilets were closed on Norfolk coastal areas... I just couldn't see how I was going to last an entire day without the loo!😖 This year, I've been unwell and not likely to see the beach until I'm back to my normal self. These walks have been keeping me sane... thank you for all you do... wonderful work... love your channel!!🥰👏
49 years I have lived in southend many changes over the years still a lovely town good and bad places Evey where but we always get a bad name but people always come because of the beach
I live about 7 miles from Southend, I also went to college there, so many memory's of the old town centre at any point in the video I could tell you story's of the part of it from my life. The last post was almost my second home as a student that being the local Weatherspoon's a cheap pub chain (bar) you could walk in there with £20 and come out hours later as drunk as a lord and having eaten too. Up to where the old buildings start used to be a park / garden in the Victorina days, they used to have a tram from the top of town to the bottom the tracks are still there just paved over back in the 50s I think, please if you ever come back near southend there are so many interesting places / walks I could tell you the local history of the arears too.
Thanku for the video 😊 Never been to Southend on Sea but I was shocked by the amount of litter everywhere which is a shame. I know it's down to the scum that drop it and it shouldn't be down to others to clean it up, but sadly it really lets the town down
As a local, it's not us mostly. It's usually people visiting leaving their rubbish here. If it's not sunny, it's not normally super filled with rubbish.
Thanks WW for the walk, appreciate the work involved. Four out of six logos found, 7:50 window on the right. 32:46 on green boarding. 47:03 on white pillar, and 104:18 on wall on right.
I live in Southend when I'm not travelling in my van it looks nice in your video especially in the sunshine 🌞 but in reality it's a it's now become the DRUG capital in Essex. There is a huge drug problem here unfortunately and a high drug related crime not a nice place to be especially at night time 😞. I did however enjoy your video and your channel thank you...🙏
I have just had to escape the kurssll estate due to these problems , it is pretty hairy these days, no one wants to acknowledge just what is going on though..
Very interesting tour. The beaches though seem pretty unkempt like nobody is bothered about their maintenance. Authorities there need to take up the initiative and get the entire area cleaned so as to encourage more tourists.
Great video i live in southend its a beautiful place for all the people wondering litter isnt always a problem, in sunny days we get visitors from london and the rest of the country who do not use the facilities provided and leave everything they bring on the beach it is a shame the winter time strangely looks better
@@johnmh1000 i agree i love seeing my hometown thrive i just wish people treated the area with respect especially as we also having a great diverse wildlife in the water and surrounding parks
@@REECEB999 That's very true. So many visitors only see the sea front (and that's fine), but they miss the great parks like Southchurch and my best one - Priory Park. I wish people could appreciate that this great town is so much more than a day at the beach and a ride at Adventure Island.
@darkside_UKSF Yep that's true, but I'm just saying that this is a town/now city steeped in history and a wonderful place to just lay back and explore away from the seafront and pier. It's my home town and it's very special to me.
Goin with the kids this Saturday havent been since I was a young lad myself i hope the kids enjoy it as much as I did nice vid that's a subscribe from me
Great video nice to see this part of the world again, was born and brought up in the 70’s and 80’s here ! But looks like a dirty rubbish strewn mess now , not a good look 👀 shame
This place used to be mobbed, cannot see any one wearing a "kiss me quick hat"Atmosphere seems flat as a pancake. We knew this place as Southend on a Mud
The council is trying to tell lies on me, so i am going to expose them even more, everywhere possible. Going to start name calling out these scumbags soon ❤
Love Southend” me my dad when I was a kid ,dad always take me there, my uncle an aunt youse” to do the Bingo. an run the hippodrome down by the kursal” my uncle Arthur. aunt Tess. Riding the motorbikes Brilliant mike Maher !!!!!!!! Yes
My daughter lives were you were walking on Westcliff beach just a bit further up we’re them new flats are there youse to be an old pub there an it was a good old place we’re the Bikers youse to hang out there we were there when the last air show was on there an that falcon bomber was flying over us wow never forget that wot a plane mike Maher does anyone no anything’s mike ????
The fish and chips are probably great, but I can’t go there. I don’t want to be punched in the face and/or racially abused, or my bag stolen. There is enough toxicity in Cambridgeshire, where I am from, let alone Southend.
