Watch Part 2 here • Southern Bantu Languag...
The term 'Bantu' derives from the common linguistic roots linking over 400 closely related African languages. This magnificent language family comprises Swahili, Zulu, Shona, and numerous other diverse tongues spoken by Bantu communities.
The total number of Bantu languages is estimated at between 440 and 680 distinct languages,
depending on the definition of "language" versus "dialect". Many Bantu languages borrow words
from each other, and some are mutually intelligible.
The Bantu people, hailing from Central and Southern Africa, have an inspiring history that
stretches back thousands of years. They are one of the largest ethnic groups on the planet, and
their rich cultural heritage continues to inspire and shape the region to this day.
There is also a similarity in vocabulary among the Bantu-speaking people who further migrated deep
in the Sub-Saharan region in Africa.
Southern Africa's Bantu language-speaking communities are roughly classified into four main groups namely:
Nguni, Sotho-Tswana, Vhavenda and Shangana-Tsonga, with the Nguni and Basotho-Tswana being
the largest groups among them. (Southern bantu peoples)
