I have been making this “crunchy cole slaw” for years, only difference is that I toast the noodles and almonds and I also add some soy sauce to the dressing. It is a family and friend favorite.
I love those packages of salmon. I don’t like to pick through all that mess in the can.🤣. I always fix cheddar biscuits with salmon cakes. You fixed a great meal!
Thank you for doing this series. I love collecting old church cookbooks. Started when 15 years ago when I was 25 my mom gave me a harvest festival one. I just fell in love with it and used every fall since then. I go to thrift shops and flea markets to look for them!!
I know.. I inherited mine from my mom and grandma and my grandma's were authentic from whichever church her and my grandpa were going to at the moment.. always in the Midwest U.S. or Oklahoma, cuz my great grandma was in Oklahoma , some of hers are in my kitchen cabinet also.. some are New England cook books but are amazing. They're the only cookbooks that I use. I'd be lost without them!
@@marystrope1345 I'd pick old timey, historical tried & true recipes hands down over newer ones too. Doesn't it feel like there's a wonderful connection to those before us?!
@@sandybowman7140 Yes!! I always feel like I'm in the kitchen with my grandma when making these recipes. Those things that I had throughout my childhood.
Loved the church story with your grandmother, LOL. When I make biscuits, the Formula L is what I use. They taste like, from scratch and are great! I have never, however, made them with the cheese and garlic butter on top. I will most definitely be trying that and the salmon patty recipe sounds so good. I have never tried baking em, which I will be trying that recipe too. Your presentation and description today was wonderful. I'm sure you made your grandmothers day! Love
I’m making the salmon patties tonight except I’m substituting it with tuna. So glad I saw your video just now. Thank you so much for sharing these recipes. I’m definitely going to try the biscuits one later as well.
I am LOVING this series! Used to love when we went to Mimaw's for Sunday lunch. She made the best chicken, the best roast, the best everything. I remember her cracklin' cornbread- SO good! Thank you for the series, I hope it continues!
And the smells in her house helped me remember her long after she passed. I find a tear burst into my eyes when I come home to my own house & smell Grandma's house + I don't know about u but that feels so good & comforts like nothing else. It feels like there's a continuity of God's goodness! Love ur series Jen, can't wait to watch the rest! 💝🍽🥘
Love all the recipes especially the salmon patties. Thank you for sharing Jen have a blessed weekend stay safe and healthy .I'm gonna go to the store and making everything tomorrow for lunch. 🙏❤🙏❤🙏
Made your Grandmothers biscuits! Oh my word! I never could make biscuits before! They were delicious! I had to send them home with my daughter to keep from eating them all. Thank you so much! Keep those receipts coming. Also, Happy Mother’s Day💐.
Jen, those cheddar bay biscuits look really delicious! I put the large biscuits mix in my Walmart app cart (the smaller bag is out of stock). It’s been a while since I’ve had salmon patties, too. So I may have to make some of those as well. Thank you so much for sharing your grandmother’s biscuits recipe and your other recipes, too.
I love this video! I really enjoyed hearing about your grandma. My mom used to make a slaw like that, but it also had chicken in it. And it didn't have the sunflower seeds.
I love love live your video, can't wait to give these a try and yes I don't know what it is but there is that special feeling and connection between a grandmother and her grandchild,, thank you again for all you do and God bless you always and forever😍👍💛🙏
I definitely enjoy your videos!! I have several old church cookbooks lol started collecting cookbooks in 1979. I have an aunt Bobby Fay that lived in Bluefield WV that I've not seen since 1967. It struck me when you told your Grand Bob story. 😊 Such a lovely story!! Be Safe & Blessings ❣️ ❤️🙌❤️☮️❤️🙌❤️
Bright green cheese grater is so cute! Mine is red and accidentally I found if I shred forward a few times then reverse it....it dumps the cheese out by itself! Awesome! Thanks for the great vids!!!
My grandma did the same. Sunday dinner was: Lasagna, Spaghetti and Meatballs, or Roast. My bonus grandfather was Sicilian so he taught her how to make sauce. She made the best desserts. She made homemade starter rolls. They were so good!
That's the slaw recipe I use! The only thing I do different is to use a bit of the seasoning packet that comes with the ramen. I've also added shredded cooked chicken to make it more of a complete meal.
That’s a great tip ! It would really make a huge difference in the flavor for sure making them little flavorful crunchy bites in the coleslaw ! I Definitely will be using this tip when I make this coleslaw recipe! Thanks!
Love church recipe!!! I have one everyone ask for it!!! Got it at a family reunion and just had to have it!!!!❤👍😊 Mexican corn salad 2- can Mexican corn drained 1 can chopped black olives 3 green onions chopped 2 celery stalks chopped 1/4 cup chopped cilantro 1 1/2 or so of mayo (I use miracle whip you can use real) just enough so it won't be dry! 1 cup shredded cheese 1 bag crushed chili cheese fritos This is so yummy!!!! 😋 everyone will be asking at your church for the recipe!!!👍
I think grandmas are special in a unique way because they’re not the ones usually disciplining you and they tend to spoil you and want to do special things with you since they probably don’t always see you! They’re probably also excited to see you and that always feels good haha! Just my theory!
I have been looking for that slaw recipe! I had it years ago at a work pitch-in and it was delicious! I am really loving your Church Recipe series! Thank you for doing it!
Your GrandBob sounds like an amazing woman!!! You learn different things from your grandmother, that are so special and very different from the things you learn from your mom. I always adored my grandparents I called them Nano, and Dado, and that stuck everyone else called them that too!!!
My Grandma made the absolute best biscuits completely from scratch and she kept a green bowl in the fridge with her biscuits mix in it mixed up and ready to go! Nobody ever got the recipe for her delicious biscuits sadly .. but to have those memories of watching her make up biscuits and cornbread and doing any of her delicious dishes that she made because she was a fabulous cook but to have those memories of her is priceless! Grandma used so much flour that she had a flour drawer that would hold prob about 15 to 20 lbs of flour in it and she kept her sifter down in the flour so it was handy to have it in there to use for sifting she also made cornbread from scratch almost everyday so she had a drawer that was smaller that held about 10 to 15 lbs of cornmeal in it . I was a very lucky person to be able watch her cook and to be taught by her ! She was amazing and I’m grateful that I had her , my Mom , and a bunch of Aunts that loved to cook and all of them were charitable with their recipes and time teaching me to cook ! I do think I was able to learn my Grandma’s cooking style as we’ll as the other women in my childhood and a lot of my food that I make tastes like hers and theirs pretty much except for Grandma’s biscuits… I still haven’t perfected them to her level even at my age of 61 yrs! Yep hers were the absolute best ! Grandma made everything from scratch that she cooked .. they had huge gardens and raised cows pigs chickens so they lived off the land basically and barely bought any groceries just the necessities! They taught me that lifestyle as well and I never take it for granted cause learning that life skill is a wonderful thing to have in life .. I wish I had learned even more in depth ,more information with that type of lifestyle. I Loved my Godly Grandma and Mom and Aunts they all were amazing Godly women and I’m so fortunate to have had them in my life ! It touched my heart to hear you tell your story about what’s for lunch Grandma?! My Grandma did the same thing on Sundays cooking lunch for all of us ..putting forth a spread of delicious dishes for lunch after Church and that was a lot of mouths to feed cause Grandma had 7 children and numerous Grandchildren! We all went to the same Church so it was a large group of all of us.. of course every family aalso contributed by bringing some dishes of yummy food too but looking back I think about how much time and effort that she gave to her family putting forth that energy and time had to be hard as she was in her 60’s when she would take care of her family’s Sunday lunch and there were never no complaints except of tummies that got too full! Ha ! Grandma was the best and I would be honored to know that I’ve turned out to be like her even if it’s just a bit ... I would hope my Grandchildren would feel the same about me as I do about my Grandma! Blessings!💕
Really enjoyed the story about granbob! She was probably making cheddar biscuits before red lobster!👏😊👍 my grandma, mam, always made salmon cakes from the can and fried, them, but I do the same as u and use packets and bake. We use saltines. Great vid. Someone at our kids school used to always bring that salad, and I always wondered how it was made. Thx, & have a blessed weekend!🌸🌼💖
Meal looked delish. My coleslaw receipt is similar but called California Coleslaw. The noodles are supposed to end up soft. It’s refrigerated over nite. I like the salmon patties. Never saw the packets. The can stuff isn’t great. I’m interested to try your recipe. Thanks for sharing
I love church cookbooks! I'm sorry I didn't save more of my Mom's when she passed. She collected cookbooks. I've had that version of slaw...some good some not so good. I love the traditional creamy slaw.
Oh I bet those biscuits are fantastic. Wonder if they make that mix in Gluten free. Looks like That cheese grater works great. Have a blessed weekend. 🤗Marion
I was unable to comment on the last recipe…… the Broccoli casserole! I personally would LOVE to be able to buy a Recipe Book written by you with the personal little stories that go with the recipe!!!
Have similar slaw recipe. Use beef ramen and use the seasoning pks in dressing and used apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar. Sit over night. Added sunflower seeds and almonds 30 min. before serving. They are very crunchy. Enjoying your video and recipes.
If make a variation of the coleslaw by adding some leftover roasted grocery store chicken and mine uses soy sauce, green onion and the oriental packet is a must include. Can be eaten cold or warmed up the next day and it tastes very similar to Chinese food when warm...
My mom use to make salmon patties all the time. She would say she didn't but it was like every other week. We all got tired of them. I think I've made them maybe twice since I lived on my own. I think she added an egg to the ones she made. I could be wrong.
My family has a similar Coleslaw recipe but we toast the nuts then add hot to the salad & it sizzles when it hits. The reason I think is bc the nutty goodness gets more infused in the flavor.
Yum, yum, yum! Try using non-stick foil under fish, parchment paper under biscuits. Saves washing pan, usually. This video, best yet in the series! Loving these!
Girl, loved this video. I agree, number 1 because I'm a grandma and we are the best and number 2, I'm a retired pastor's wife and sometimes, I find myself sitting in church and thinking about lunch. LOL. Number 3, I love my cheese grater from Amazon. Hope I can find that biscuit mix in Texas. Keep the recipes coming.
wow everything looks amazing 🤩 I am a silent viewer and this is my first time commenting on your video but I love your cooking videos. keep them coming! 😋😋
I will definitely try the salmon patties recipe. The bicuits are so beautiful, will try them with a gluten free biscuit recipe..hope they aren’t a FAIL for me🙏🏼
Oh my word. My mouth is watering!!! Those biscuits look delicious. I have got to make some. I love salmon patties. I make them a little different but I will try them this way to see if I like them. Thank you for sharing these recipes. 💕
I didn't know you could cook salmon patties in oven I have always done a shallow fry on them. But this would be healthier I will give it a try next time.
