I come from a long line of Southern women (though Mom was actually born up north and only went to Georgia for summers with extended family). I am in AWE of how Southern women can get stuff done and then come in and clean up and leave the house looking like movie stars. They really are the total package!

Asian here, went to study in the US two decades ago, roommate was from Alabama, invited me over to his home for Thanksgiving, Christmas and what not. His mom was the sweetest woman ever, thick southern accent, drove tractors, ride horses and what not. My best memory of her was, she treated me with lots of warmth - contrary to popular believe of "racist south" - fed me like I'm one of her children. I will never forget the experience.
Puerto rican here, ive always lived up north in the U.S but when I could I actually went to live south just to see if the stereotypes were true, well we actually never really got invited to anyone's house, we actually got invited 2 two churches, one of the church members proceeded to ask us in this way "in our church we have all types, we have former murderers, gays, theives"......as if us being hispanic was align the same lines as that.....another lady invited us to a different church but she told us she had 2 and we should go to the younger ppl's church to which I answered "I always liked older ppl, younger ppl are immature and usually have zero wisdom" so then she proceeded to not invite us to the older ppl's church so we pressed her until she finally told us that the older church was full of racist white ppl and we wouldn't fit in, I told her that if she has a church that has a known racist problem then she isn't doing her job the right way, anyways I'm glad you short stay there was great but ours wasn't really too friendly, we found that in the south they pretend to be really friendly until they figure out they can't get anything from you then you're nobody......plus when we went to the thrift stores there would be all sorts of racist memorabilia from the slave era....I could go on and on about our experiences there but I guess you'd had to have lived there for awhile to get the full picture.....(im not saying everyone down there was like that all I'm saying is that there was alot of ppl that were uncomfortable with us knowing we were there to stay......
