My question is why are people not taking cover but still out here taking pictures? My no 1 priority will board my house and ensure the safety of my family and pets!
Maybe these people are trying to document some of this for posterity, and the boarding up and putting away of the pets and family has already been accomplished. Just thought I'd posit that.🤔
@@Charlie-pi5dw haha it's the funny man! no seriously, f off. you're not funny. sick humour is funny at some points, but when people's LIVES are at stake, it's sick.
Absolutely. If my cats can't go, I don't go. But in all seriousness, my cats and I would heve started north several days ago. I'd get out before the traffic increases and gas stations run out.
Just watched the documentary about hurricane Katrina, “A Refuge of Last Resort”. It broke my heart and made me angry at the way the people of New Orleans were treated by the government before, during, and after the storm. Hopefully, history won’t repeat itself.
@@erwin-fe1gi exactly! Not only do they hold George Bush and the Cheneys in high regard but so do most Democrats across the country because George Bush said mean things about Trump. *eye roll*
@@irysapostle5thapostleofthe375 its supposed to be a category 5 when it hits land. Grand isle is going to be gone. Trust me and come back to this when southern Louisiana is gone
@@dreamersruleNOW Yeap, was in country walk and it was supposed to come ashore much further north. If we hadn’t left, we would have died in that house. There was nothing left.
These same people you see in the background will be the people calling 911 for help after they realize mother nature is no joke and not to be messed wit.
I wake up every morning so happy I live in a region where we may have a huge snow storm about every 5 years or so, but virtually no other natural disasters. To you folks in the path of this thing, you have my love, light and hope!
For the people in area, this is a normal seasonal thing. Many people stock up on bottles of water and canned foods and get ready to hunker down. It usually lasts about 2 days, maybe more. Many people don’t have another place to go. Sometimes the looting is worse than the storm.
New Orleans didn't get hit by Katrina. The levees broke because they were not in good condition because the state and Mayor Nagin didn't appropriate the funds to update the levees. Katrina landed in Bay St. Louis, MS The Mississippi Gulf Coast took the brunt of Katrina. Please remember this.
@WorldFlex It's no over yet, you genius. It wasn't Katrina that was too much for the levee system, it was the rain that continued after, that was too much for the levee system. Now, go run your face into a wall.
Worst destruction I experienced from a hurricane was in 1967. I was a kid and hurricane Buela made landfall about 60 miles east of where my family lived. Lots of destruction that far inland, can't imagine how bad ppl had it right on the coast
@@Hyurachan Yeah, for smaller and far less potentially lethal hurricanes, but some like this? Only idiots would have a hurricane party for something like this nowadays.
Just thought to myself last night... "Texas will be there to help." As a neighboring state Texas and Louisiana have helped each other out countless times in the past. We need to be there for our fellow Americans no matter what.
@@animegalore88 After you lose everything, you either move to a place well above sea level, or you choose to repeat your earlier mistake. Remember: the first time is an accident. The second time is a choice.
Who said we are surprised? I’m not surprised. Loved here my whole life. I bet Hawaiians aren’t surprised when a volcano erupts and Californians aren’t surprised when they have an earthquake. Catastrophes happen.
They got the best straw. Dan Wrather got his start when he was a local reporter covering a hurricane his footage went national and the rest was history.
Yes. And the houses in some places are 10 ft below those tiny levees. After growing up there and evacuating 6 months a year, we took our family to much higher ground. What gets us is the surprise our remaining family members have over hurricanes. Duh. It's going to happen people.
We lived in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew so we know how long and difficult it takes to rebuild. More homeless? With the help of the government it will take lots of helping hands. If you believe in God then let him be your comfort and may you stay safe and protected. May you also know we are rooting for you and feel the Love and Care we are sending your way.

My thoughts and prayers to all in the front line of this hurricane. How scary for them. We were evacuated from our home a couple of months ago due to living right beside a river which was breaking its banks further upstream and wide spread flooding in our area during a storm but we get nothing of this magnitude here in New Zealand our weather is very settled not like the states with huge wild fires, tornadoes and hurricanes happening each year it’s very sad to think of all of the people that are being effected by this right now. My thoughts are with you x
@@MssEllefry It would work would it not? You make it retractable so when a hurricane comes, wall goes up and keeps the water out. Is that too crazy of an idea but would actually work?
I drove around the lower 9th ward in 2017…still neighborhoods that were mostly just foundations left. Some had Brad Pitt built homes. Jackson wasn’t much better. I don’t know how they will survive this. It is just such a fiscally poor area but rich in soul. Sending y’all love from Texas.
If that levee does break I urge the people in that area plead to government that they ask the Dutch for help. You will never have to fear storm surges again.
You see those ppl walking around in the background? They are the ones who will be crying for help later... risking the lives of the rescue team to save them when they should of left like everyone else.
Life has risks. No one can shield you from them, least of all the govt. You lose your freedoms and personal autonomy if you bank on that. The is more to living than the avoidance of dying!
The ppl who can leave to save yourself, wtf are you doin? GO. You might as well stay. This has been goin on for days now. The ones who cannot because of covid and other circumstances i still pray for you. I pray for your well being and to tough it out. I say this because not everyone can just up and leave. Please god help these people who can and cannot leave. 💯🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you! Kind words and prayers go a long way! Not everyone can leave. I left with most of my family, but we have two emergency responders whom had to stay. Thank you for your prayers.
I’m want to know why those people aren’t taking this serious. There’s a category 4 hurricane coming your way and you walking around taking pictures ! I’m like scared for everyone there. My boyfriend and I praying for you all.
Some ppl including myself are really fascinated by hurricanes. The thrill of experiencing one is driving ppl to do this. If i was there myself i would be doing the same thing. I love it, and im willing to risk my life to experience one. So are many others. Hurricanes dosnt scare me at All, so i would properly just enjoy it.
No matter how big and how tall the walls are built, it hard to hold back water. The water always goes wherever it wants to. I hope people will not take the warnings for granted. Please evacuate and be safe.
I remember Hurricane Rita. My family evacuated a week prior but we didn't board up our home or anything. My parents were prepared to lose everything. Luckily, we only got the edge of the storm but it doesn't hurt to be prepared in advanced
Why do people still live in California with all of the fires and earthquakes? Or tornadoe alley? Or Chicago with all of the killings? People grew up here, they love almost everything about it here. Living away from Nola would never be home for so many. And then for so many, they just don't have the means to move. Hell, look how many are riding this storm out because they don't have the means.
Drove my chevy to the levee but the levee was dry And them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye Singin', this will be the day that i die This will be the day that i die
Boarding up sometimes will not help. Come to the VI and learn how to build to have secured homes during hurricanes. The majority of our buildings and homes are built very strong. The houses in America are built cheap. The US Virgin Islands had two category 5 catastrophic hurricanes one week apart. Some roofs came off from the pressure of the wind and rain. Thank God we have hills and mountains. We survived. I prayer for their safety. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🇺🇲🇻🇮
One other thing different from 2005 and Katrina: countless minds melted by social media. Hopefully people won’t risk their lives trying to stick around for a dramatic image to post.
God bless the Levee, God Bless the Seawall, and God bless those that choose to stay their ground. I cannot image how, in the foreseeable future that this situation will improve. Just like Marshal Dillion once reiterated, Best git outta town and keep ridin' ! Festus agreed !
Jogging? I'm from Miami people will surf waves in the hours before a Storm comes ashore it takes the police to order people out the water. Crazy but its true.
@@user-bi1hm5pk3b I thought the same until I had to live thru Katrina, may not be bad for you, but I wouldn’t take chances again like I did for Katrina.
Praying for Cuba, Louisiana other states and all those that are being effected from this Hurricane. I pray that the jails, prisons and nursing homes that need to be evaluated ar evacuated. In Jesus name Amen.
I heard the hails were evacuated. Nursing homes usually are evacuated but with Covid surge that may not have happened this time. The hospitals are full.
