For the past few years Dagestan has been one of the most popular tourist places in Russia. For a very long time the Caucasus was unsafe, especially Dagestan, Chechnya and Ingushetia. Today, situation had changed, and tourists go to the mountains of Dagestan or to Grozny in Chechnya.

I learned that there are more than 14 languages in Dagestan (avar, lezgin, lak, tat..etc) and learned the names of some of villages like makhatchkala and tsadasa. I was fascinated by Gamzatov’s description of people and rocky mountains of Dagestan. I read about the honorable history of Imam Shamil, may Allah bless his soul. I was introduced to a lot of Dagestani traditions and sayings. The most important, I learned that “Dag”means the mountain, and “stan” means the land, so Dagestan means “mountains land”. I guess Dagestan is a magical cultural fusion. I would like to be there some day. Much love from Jordan. ❤️

Interesting how Dagestan developed its distinct Russian accent given that Russian as a language has very little to non-exiting regional variance. You won't notice any difference from Kaliningrad to Moscow to Vladivostok. Also, you should have gone to Derbent, it's the oldest city (by far) in the whole of the Russian Federation.
