We didn't tactically park the bus - the players froze as soon as Serbia started coming into the game. Foden doesn't suddenly look like a rabbit in headlights because of Southgate's tactics
Spot on - as a Boro fan it’s amazing how often I see England playing just like we did under Southgate. We keep dropping deeper and deeper, lack of confidence in making subs, no adventure. Astounded with our attacking talent that we were reluctant to get some penetration with our wingers.
Worst part is, Southgate will see today as a result which will reinforce his stupid belief that you should spend the rest of the game defending a one goal lead
If your good at Defending like sean dyches burnley we're then sometimes that tactics work Unfortunately for England's case it dosent as the defence isn't strong enough
What do you expect from someone who wasn't great as a player either.. bloke was useless when he was playing so being England manager isn't gonna be much better.. Gormless looking bloke Euro 96 shithouse
Ten Hag on Southgate: “It’s the vision of the manager. England take a 1-0 lead, then he decides to start gambling with making his team compact and relying on moments for the remaining minutes of the game.” Spot on from Ten Hag.
The fact that the media aren't asking things like "We've seen Spain and Germany dominate games this round, even Switzerland bossed a half, with a far weaker top 6 than us, how do you defend playing so passively to scrape a 1-0 against Serbia?" is criminal. Zero accountability from the media or FA for being so negative on a consistent basis.
No its fine. Let all the English media say England will dominate the Euros and are bookies favorites to win it. But now apparently "a win is a win" and thats all that matters. So they go from a world class team to suddenly settling for wins. Context is key. I was always respectful for the.opposition, but many England fans say things like "easy 3 or 4 nill win".
@@user-ed7et3pb4oin the first half he stayed upfront drawing their defenders. They were then hesitant to push too far upfront. Second half he dropped back creating massive pressure on us. Needed to go off after 60 min IMO 🤷♂️
@yoshiwoollyworld it wouldn’t surprise me. He wasn’t sure he’s was coming back after the WC. So I think he will call it a day, then go manage a non league team 😂
Yeah I always wonder what players like Foden and Bellingham think of him and they way they play. When they have played for world class managers. Surely you must feel like burying your head in the sand
England were already dropping back at the end of the first half making sloppy passes. I didn’t see Gareth telling them to drop deeper or to give the ball away. It’s so easy to blame Southgate (which I often do) rather than question why, for example, Foden has never played a good match for England or why Kane was so short of match fitness.
@@2011hwalker This is not about france stop deflecting.. this is about an inept cowardly manager who has all these talented lads you could wish for but manages them like he's back at borough about to get relegated, spineless daft uninspired boring log of a manager.. the worst manager i've ever seen.
We can’t play like that against a France or Germany, this tournament is already written off after the first game. Southgate just sat on the bench and did nothing, Bellingham was the only leader on that pitch. Southgate out
@@ariasvelez7025This is not a victory this is only the fact Serbia didn't have the good players...put Mbappé, Giroux, Sané, Morata in front of this England and we are out..
And this is why England won’t win the euros. They win against easy opponents or scrape by them and then the minute they face one of the big boys, they crumble.
Kane had a good game he couldn’t do much more and won plenty of fouls. Regardless of how he plays he’ll never come off because he’s the captain and focal point of the team.
How the hell does Palmer not get a run? He's a player who's spent all season making magic out of nowhere by himself, yet he didn't even get a sniff. Southgate is a moron.
Took my dog out for a walk last night. Couldn’t work out why the neighbourhood was so quiet. Then it dawned on me , Engerland were playing football. All my neighbours had gone to bed for an early night.
@@ItsCalled-Football when we had players like scholes, lampard and rooney we were still crap cuz the manager didn’t know how to get the most out of them. before that idk i’m not that old lol

@@Alex-jc7eohonestly I think it is good for us to suffer like that and come through it. Hopefully the lads will be more confident playing on the front foot in the next two matches.
@@user-ed7et3pb4o I hope you’re right, I just fear the wrong lesson has been learned. That suffering due to us bringing pressure on to ourselves is a good thing, rather than trying to avoid unnecessary suffering. This is 8 years of Southgate… we are supposed to be reaping the rewards now of a continues system. It literally was a project from U21 onwards. We should be in these tournaments as a finished article by now!! Instead we look like we’ve never played together 🤦🏻♂️
@@henfc456 It did for Germany. You can see Germany have won the World Cup, scrap and rebuilt AGAIN and they are back in the mix again to win a tournament. England tried to use the same blueprint as Germany

@@boogy1033yeah that's the problem, totally not anything to do with us having an extremely low quality manager... Yeah the problem is we don't have enough good players like saka, Bellingham, rice, kane, Trent, stones etc
Harry Kane wasn’t the issue. Once Serbia started to press effectively we couldn’t play out. Southgate’s in game management is terrible. He couldn’t figure out/instruct the team to play around this which has been a consistent issue for him
Told everyone Foden on the left is stupid but people don't understand balance in football. Stop shoehorning players into positions they don't play. Gordon has to start on the left.
@@markygti138agreed with his point about balancing then make an unbalanced midfield u wanna change our best players position so foden can play a lil better keep Trent he’s the way to go
@markygti138 of all the players you have a go at Trent who had a decent game but 1 mistake? He made some excellent passes and 1 interception that lead to a huge chance.. Foden, Kane were god awful. Gallagher wasn't great when he came on. We looked worse after each sub. England's Right hand side was the ONLY decent thing about today
I could not have said it any better.I am a 71 year old woman who loves to watch England, but I spend all the match shouting at the TV.Changer the MANGER.
It’s astonishing that Southgate is the England manager. He is way out of his depth. If only a few of those players like Rice and Grealish had declared for the Irish senior team we might be there too. The analysis here is spot on. England play well, score a goal and he changes to defense mode which ends in panic. He’s not a winner.
@@michaelpower4372 he has a world class set of players, and the gutter press hasn’t the power it once had to destroy the lives of players and ruin the English teams chances. He’s a bottler and under achiever.
Kane is only about personal glory and always goes missing in big games, that is why he has never ever won a trophy. A world class striker would be busting a gut to win a game.
I’ve made myself look like a fool. I thought we’d go on and score 2-3-4 goals and put the game out of reach. But then Southgate did a Southgate and sat back. F’n’hell this is going to be a depressing euros
@@rocky1169pt that team dominted Italy in the first 30mins of that final and far outdid them man for man with a much better squad...yet Mr timid instead of going for the throat and finishing them off in first half went defensive and invited the attack and Itay did what I predicted they'd do before the game play for pens and rely on Donorumma because it was so predictable and that weak loser mentality is why he never won anything as a player or a manager
This is absolutely spot on, I've been saying this for years. I watched Kane and unless he's got the ball coming towards him he does absolutely nothing.
Serbia showed more passion but lacked pace and any final third quality. While the group can be a good chance to build momentum for England I fear we will be completely exposed once we play a side with pace and attacking intent. France, Spain, and Portugal batter us based on today’s showing.
I don't understand how he's even kept the job, he's been at the helm of so many disappoints and been in the role for 8 years? I can't even think of a manager given the same level of grace that Southgate has received. He needs to go after this tournament, win or lose.

We won’t win anything with Pickford in goal. We have a team full of Man City, Madrid, Liverpool, arsenal players who want to build from the back. Pickford just lumps it long aimlessly towards Kane.
That is because Pickford is TOLD to do that. Pickford isn't the problem, yet, you blame him and not the manager? Open your eyes, and see that it is all Southgate. When Marco Silva was Everton manager, back when Everton played an exciting brand of football, Pickford barely lobbed the ball up, and instead played short passes. Pickford does what he's told unfortunately and GK's get told by the managers where to kick the ball.
@@joshuaryan9650obviously not. Southgate usually insists on playing out the back. The problem yesterday was in midfield, our midfielders couldn’t handle the Serbian press and couldn’t keep hold of the ball.
It doesn’t help that he’s 30 now. Essentially at the point where footballers start to slow down career wise. He might still have fuel in the tank now but he will run out eventually.
@@NeilLewis77 at least they both won something in their career, like champions leagues and league trophies, what has Kane done, it seem like he can’t win
A worrying trend is the lack of subs altogether. We can all argue about who should and shouldn't be coming on, but in a knockout tournament you need to utilise the squad. We have so many great midfield and forward options we need to make more changes, the fact Serbia had four fresh players before we made one change spoke volumes for the intensity of the game second half.
It’s criminal that kane and foden played a full game then. Toney would’ve been better for the last 30 minutes getting behind them. Did kane win one long ball all night? 😂
@@owenmiller7920Yes let's leave out the best English striker in the premier league this season because he played up front during some collectively horrendous England team performances against the likes of Brazil.
It's always been this way. The F.A always go for the quiet, safe pair of hands that plods along and stays uncontroversial. If The F.A had appointed Cloughie in 1982 instead of Bobby Robson, we would have won the World Cup in 86, or 90. England need an outspoken Maverick to inspire, but the F.A will never appoint anyone like that. Personally I would get Mourinho in. He's 61 now, the perfect age to manage internationally.
thank you! finally someone said it, England will never win a major trophy with Southgate at the wheel, he's such a boring coach, England wins games just because of Individual players skill
I don’t disagree, but when Southgate goes after this tournament, watch the FA run around like headless chickens with absolutely no idea who to appoint.
Foden should’ve been subbed off in the 70th minute to rest him. He was knackered and Trent in midfield was always going to go wrong Gallagher is twice the midfielder than Trent can ever be. He isn’t a midfielder, he is a right back.
I didn’t think that was a bad sub to be fair to Southgate. Pretty much like for like for a tiring saka. He created a big chance in the first 5 minutes. The fact that Kane and foden played the full 90 is more of an issue.
You're absolutely right, SO frustrating to consider how this stupidity cost us repeatedly in The past, when it could have easily been so different if it weren't for a managers cowardice and stubborness
@@robertnapier624 Southgate could have picked players with a left foot who have been playing left back but I stead decided to shoehorn as many players out of position as he can. He could have chose any of these, yes they aren't world class but all play in that position and have a left foot. Dan Burn Alfie Doughty Trick Mitchell Levi Colwill Rico Henry
That was a lot more stressful than it should have been. Wish Southgate would take the front 4 off at 60 minutes and bring on Watkins, Gordon, Palmer and Bowen, and say live with that. Like Ferguson would with United. That way the front 4 can be running their socks off doing a high press like Liverpool/ Newcastle, taking the pressure off a weak defensive rather than passing the ball back to them and putting them under pressure.
England will never win anything until they get rid of that Southgate and sort that play out. Holding onto a 1-0 is boring, and we need to try and move the ball forward with more pace.
If this was erik ten hag, the press would have been on his neck after the first game in charge even if it was a friendly game against gibraltar. friendly.
What I found so depressing about the performance was that we looked pretty much as good as Germany in the early stages, but unlike them, we failed to build a strong lead. While you don't want to peak too early, a multi-goal start does wonders for confidence and gets the tournament off to the right start. Instead we are already analysing a disappointing overall display. I tend to agree that Southgate is the problem. He just isn't an elite manager, with the added problem that we have a team predominantly consisting of elite players. It's a mismatch that keeps haunting us with poor decisions and, indeed, indecision at the business end of tournaments. Doubtless we'll progress to the quarter finals, at least, but with this group of players we should be winning tournaments. If we don't win this one, the FA needs to read the room and change the manager. It's looking like the same tired old story all over again this summer. One just gets the impression that our best rivals are better prepared.
He lost the ball more then once, the other times he lost it we wasn’t in much danger so nobody will be talking about it but he was sloppy on more then one occasion.
@kevinb9830 so did he spring a counter attack and pass walker / saka through on the wing ? U see that? Or the ball to the wing to Trippier? Not trents fault Trip has no left foot or pace. His Cut back to Bellingham could easily have lead to a goal. Lastly he was 1 of the 3 shots we had on target. I dunno if Trent deserves the hate tbh.
If we had a good coach over the last 6 years we’d be laughing at nations but instead they laugh at us. It’s depressing. The fact Southgate can’t get the best players to play good is astonishingly sad
